2004 Subaru Forester Xt Turbo on 2040-cars

Location:

2004 SUBARU FORESTER XT TURBO WITH ONLY 87,303 MILES

•  RUNS GREAT / LOOKS GOOD,
WE'RE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS SINCE NEW, NO ACCIDENTS, JUST PASSED NY STATE INSPECTION
•  SELLING BECAUSE WE ARE MOVING BACK TO CALIFORNIA AND DO NOT WANT TO SHIP IT WEST

My wife and I purchased this Subaru new in 2004. The miles are largely highway miles, as we’ve primarily used it to zip in and out of NYC. The car has been maintained by our local area Subaru dealer, Bill Kolb Jr. in Orangeburg NY.

The last service was in January when the 'check engine light' popped on and the code indicated there was an 'evap emissions' malfunction, so we replaced both the gas cap and canister and that seems to be have done the trick. Last fall, we did a full front brake job with new rotors and last summer we installed a new radiator, as the orginal one had developed a tiny pinhole leak.

The car has never been in a traffic accident or disabled in any way, however, there are various cosmetic hiccups including:
-  a dent on the left rear quarter panel, from where I backed into my wife's BMW in the driveway (that made her super happy)
-  the paint is peeling on the rear rubber bumper (see photos)
-  there are quite a few dimples in the hood from acorns falling from an Oak tree above where we park the cars
-  various scratches and dings, etc

Edmunds ranks the best used cars for 2013

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

When people ask us what car we would recommend for them, it's usually not easy to answer. To make a useful recommendation we must consider which of the numerous vehicle segments fits their needs best, and then choose one of the many vehicles offered in each segment. For some people, new cars don't meet their expectations of value, because they lose so much of it the moment they are purchased and driven off the dealer lot. For them, there's always the used-car market, where great deals can be found, but cars' histories of reliability and maintenance records - and perhaps that Certified Pre-Owned warranty - become ever-important factors playing into purchase choice.
To help out, Edmunds has done us the favor of assembling a list of the best used vehicles money can buy, covering model years 2006-2011, according to what it considers the most important criteria when shopping for used autos: reliability, safety, value and availability. That means unreliable, unsafe, super-expensive or limited-edition models don't appear on the list, but instead cars from each segment that are more likely to satisfy the general population.
There are some real goodies on the list, including but not limited to vehicles such as the capable Honda Fit, the cultish Honda Accord coupe (which can be had with a 240-horsepower V6 and a six-speed manual transmission some years), and the powerful Chevrolet Corvette. While Edmunds' choice of the Volvo C70 for best used convertible baffled us at first (not that it's a bad car), it redeemed itself by stating that the Mazda MX-5 still is an unofficial top choice if you don't require more than two seats.

Subaru takes another look back, this time at the 2004 WRX STI

Sat, 21 Dec 2013

Here we have the followup to the rally-mimicking Impreza 22B STI that Subaru recently chronicled in its Vintage Garage series: the 2004 Impreza WRX STI. Displacement for the boxer four was upped from 2.2 liters to 2.5, and after noticing how many buyers had installed larger turbochargers on their WRXs, Subaru decided to bolt on one in-house. That gave the final product 300 horsepower and a 0-to-60 mile-per-hour run of just 4.6 seconds.
It was stiffer, it's body from nose to front doors was penned by Peter Stephens, he of the McLaren F1, it came with a driver-controlled center differential, driver-activated cooling spray for the turbos and 300 pound-feet of torque. This is a curio from a time when, after a new WRX STI came out, you started poring through magazines to see how the Mitubishi Evo was going to respond. You can find out more about it in the video below.

Factory Five's Subaru WRX-based 818 kit now on sale [w/video]

Fri, 21 Mar 2014

The Subaru WRX has always needed a dash more style, and the do-it-yourself carmakers at Factory Five are looking to accomplish a lot more than that with their new mid-engine, rear-wheel drive 818. The sports car started with a contest in 2011 to create the shape for the company's next vehicle, while sticking within certain limits. A designer named Nouphone Bansasi had his entry chosen, and first cars were completed last year.
The 818 is named after its target weight of 818 kilograms (1,803 pounds), and it's offered in two forms. The S starts at $9,990 and is meant for street use, with two seats and a basic interior. The R model for $10,990 is more track-focused and features a tiny windshield and full roll cage. The company claims that complete cars can be built for around $15,000, after factoring in the donor Subaru. Performance is very brisk, with acceleration to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds, according to Motor Authority.
The kits are meant to be something that even a relative novice could put together. All the builder needs to provide is a 2002-2007 Impreza or WRX. The car donates its turbocharged boxer four-cylinder engine, transmission, axles, brakes, steering and other major components. Factory Five supplies the spaceframe, body, suspension, lights, windshield and some interior trim. It doesn't even need paint, thanks to its gel-coated fiberglass body panels. The company also offers a laundry list of options, including carbon fiber aero components, upgraded suspension parts, improved brakes and more. Kits can be ordered in either left- or right-hand drive.
