1993 Porsche 968 Base Convertible 2-door 3.0l on 2040-cars

Year:1993 Mileage:78500
Location:

Delray Beach, Florida, United States

Delray Beach, Florida, United States

I bought this 1993 968 Cabriolet about 12 months ago. It had previously been owned by a women who lives in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. It had been sitting in a lot in Ft. Lauderdale for more than a year. It's was professionally detailed and cleaned up nicely. The car has only 78,500 miles on it. It is a rare green color with a black interior. It has the 3.0L engine with a 4 speed tiptronic transmission.

This Porsche is in very good mechanical shape. I recently had major engine service done to it including the timing belt, water pump, tension rollers, etc. Like many 968's that are more than 20 years old with automatic transmissions, we recently replaced the flex plate auto dampner. This is a rubber part that bolts to the flywheel.  Anyone who's a 968 fan knows the expense involved in doing the engine work and transmission repair. Big bucks and big headaches you won't have to deal with.  The car runs and drives great! It's fast! Service records are available since I've had the car. The service was done by a great Porsche mechanic in Miami, who only works on 928's, 944's and 968's. The oil has recently been changed.  I changed out the front tires with new17 inch Kumho ECSTA tires due to dry rot. The rears are also 17 inch Kumho ECSTA tires. They are in good shape. The car is not perfect and still needs some minor work done.  I'm selling the car as is.

The interior is in good shape, however with most cars more than 20 years old the seats will need to be replaced.  We recently put on a new convertible top in addition to doing some work with the frame. There is some rubber molding that is missing where the doors and window meet the top.  The original Porsche radio needed replacing so we put in a nice Alpine radio with blue tooth.

Cosmetically the car needs some work. The left door handle recently broke. We're working on getting a replacement. The doors and fenders are in relatively good shape. There is some damage to the lower left side right behind the left side door (see pictures).  The hood needs a little bit of body work. Both head lights work and go up and down (one front picture of the car were taken before the car went into the shop for service). And the hood and trunk are showing areas of oxidation.  It's probably best that the entire car needs painting.

This car is very rare. For those of you not familiar with the Porsche 968 it was an automobile sold by Porsche AG of Germany from 1991 to 1995, and marketed as the replacement for the Porsche 944. When production ceased in the 1995 model year, it represented the end of the line started almost 20 years earlier with the introduction of the Porsche 924.

There were only a limited amount of Porsce 968's built and shipped to the states. Approximately 2000 coupes and 2000 cabriolets were imported to the United States between 1991 and 995. This color combination is very rare.  Combined with the tiptronic transmission...maybe 10 in total were manufactured.

If you have any questions or want to see the car I can be reached at 561 414-8477. Only serious buyers please!

50th Anniversary Porsche 911 vs. Jaguar F-Type Coupe is a battle of beauty, brawn

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

There can't really be a loser between the Jaguar F-Type Coupe R and the Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition. One might be better than the other, but if you're behind the wheel of either of them, you can't complain. In a new video, Motor Trend takes on the difficult task of determining which one of these European powerhouses is the best, not just in terms of raw performance, but also how they actually feel to drive.
The Porsche 911 is one of the perennial favorites of the motoring world. It just doesn't go away and always seems capable of challenging the top vehicles in its class. In this video, Motor Trend takes a look at the 50th Anniversary Edition model that celebrates that heritage while boosting power somewhat over the standard version.
The F-Type Coupe is an incredibly masculine car, MT describing it as "a British Corvette." The coupe's exterior lines are tautly stretched over its athletic body, and it's supercharged 5.0-liter V8 sounds like a demon's growl. Jaguar seems to have things right with its latest sports car.

Porsche's former CEO Wiedeking to stand trial over VW-share manipulation

Wed, 27 Aug 2014

Former Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (left in the above photo) could potentially be facing some time in the slammer after all. The last we had heard, he and former Chief Financial Officer Holger Haerter (right) had avoided a trial in April due to a lack of evidence. However, an appeals court in Stuttgart has looked at the case again and overruled the earlier decision, finding that the executives should be tried for share manipulation during Porsche's failed attempt to take over Volkswagen in 2008, Bloomberg reports.
The judges in the appeal "list numerous indications that could suggest that there was a hidden decision to increase the stake as they could suggest the opposite evaluation by the lower court," said Stefan Schueler, a spokesperson for the court, in a statement cited by Bloomberg. Wiedeking and Haerter put out their own releases saying that there was no merit to the charges.
The prosecutors allege that Wiedeking and Haerter had a plan to buy up VW stock options in 2008 to take the automotive giant over but hid it from investors. The whole thing was a massive failure and eventually allowed VW the chance to acquire Porsche and forced the two execs to step down. In addition to the criminal investigation, hedge funds have attempted to sue the company multiple times in civil court for the same reason, but they have repeatedly failed.

There's a Porsche Cayman under here somewhere

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

What we have here is the work of Dubai tuner Royal Customs that is controversial even beyond its styling. The Middle East aftermarket house says it spent fourteen months developing a bodykit for the Porsche Cayman, and the results seem to be aimed at those who wish their coupe were a 918 Spyder - the nose, strake-filled and widened rear fender, carbon fiber wing and massive diffuser all cribbing some from Stuttgart's new hybrid supercar.
Even without a buyer, the Alpha One Concept is already controversial. When WorldCarFans posted on the Royal Customs car recently, German tuner Alpha-N Performance wrote in alleging that the Dubai package copies their design from two years ago, which was also called the Alpha One, a design with which it's clear the Dubai Alpha One shares numerous cues. We asked Royal Customs about its relationship to the Alpha One car, we were told, "Yes, there is a lot we can say about the remarkable similarities all of which will be explained by our press release by Mr. Emil from Autogespot. Please wait for the official release and you will have the full exciting story. It's an 'actual success story' and not a 'replication' story."
The response is referring to an "extensive report" on the car coming out of Autogespot. Royal Customs doesn't have the Alpha One Concept on its site yet, so we're still missing quite a few details on it, such as whether the Porsche engine has been given a similarly 918-ish workover. We do know that the company says each car takes 30 days to build and it will only build three of them, which is a number that should satisfy any haters and, even more so, its buyers. You can decide which side of the fence you're on by having a close look at it in the gallery above.
