1991 Lotus Esprit Turbo Se Coupe 2-door 2.2l on 2040-cars

To the coolest car I have ever owned, it has been a fun ride my friend. This is a hard thing to part with, but I have had my fun, and its time for me to part with it. This car has spent the majority of its life in good n' dry Arizona, and the pristine frame and suspension show it. In the past 9 months, I have put nearly 11k into this machine. I initiated the rebuild because the car was having trouble idling. to replace all belts, gaskets, piston rings, turbo seals, camshafts, injectors, and numerous other internal parts, I had spent nearly 6k. Included in this price was an additional 600 for stage 2 camshaft, and an additional 200 per cylinder for forged rings. After all was said and done with labor, it had cost me nearly 10k. About a month following the rebuild, the alternator went out, and while the car was in the shop I had the clutch replaced since I knew it was going to need it in the near future. Again, going for bigger and better I went for the stage 2 clutch upgrade which was well worth it! Pryor to my ownership, custom made aluminum headers, and a dual exhaust was installed. The stereo, speakers, and amplifier is Blaupunkt brand. Besides these things, the car is stock and runs like a top. The whole rebuild was done a mere 700 miles ago! I have taken it very easy on the car since for the break in period.

The paint on the car is not incredible. Along with being an Arizona car, came various tiny rock chips in the paint. Also the clips that attach the headlamp motors to the headlamps need replaced. I "fixed" the headlamps in the up right position until I can get the clips in.

The interior is in excellent condition and just shows slight wear on the side of the driver's seat at the stitching, the shift boot, and E-brake. The balsa wood dash shows its age with spider cracking throughout.

The previous owner informed me that back in 2000 the car was stolen, hence the reason for the rebuilt title.

please feel free to contact me with questions reguarding condition or anything concerning the sale of this car. Questions concerning the rebuild and all of the major mechanical work recently done should be addressed to the mechanic that ordered all parts, and performed the rebuild.

UPDATE 10/10/13 I found the gears I needed to fix headlights finally, I am ordering those today...

Lotus bows out of Paris Motor Show

Mon, 16 Jul 2012

The plan put forth by former Lotus CEO Dany Bahar was to explode the British brand into the high-dollar sports car segment and directly challenge its marquee names. The first explosion came with the surprise introduction of five concepts at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. What has continued to surprise, though, is that the explosions haven't stopped: parent company Proton has had troubles leading to a reworking of its Formula One involvement, its IndyCar effort has had a rough ride, Proton's sale to Malaysian conglomerate DRB Hicom led to a production stoppage, and while the company was reassured that it wouldn't be sold, Bahar was shown the door - along with four of those Paris concepts, as far as we can tell. Yet the company is still making highly regarded cars and going racing.
So it shouldn't be all that surprising that, according to a report in Car and Driver, Lotus won't be attending this year's Paris Motor Show at all. Lotus didn't have much to show off at the Geneva Motor Show or the New York Show as all development was halted for two months, and the new corporate owner and new CEO installed by that owner are still working through the details of its niche English property. We will hope this is nothing more than a step in the reorganization, and look forward to seeing the Hethel firm again in Los Angeles or Detroit.

Jay Leno goes old school with 1966 Lotus Elan 26R

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

On the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage the guest's are both from inside the garage: the man they call Professor Jim Hall, Leno's master fabricator, and the 1966 Lotus 26R that he spent 18 months building. The Elan 26R was the racing version of the Elan that Lotus founder Colin Chapman began building after watching privateer teams prep their roadgoing Elans for competition duty all over Europe. Built by the factory from 1964-1966, drivers like Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart won silverware in the roadster called "the giant killer."
Hall, a veteran Lotus wrench, started with the 1966 Elan street car and turned it into a 26R that's arguably better than the factory original. Except for the engine block and head, original 26R body and Elan chassis, just about everything is custom built, highly modified or special order, from the fabricated oil pan, brake lines, safety wiring and oval exhaust tubing to the six-speed sequential transmission.
The episode is an unusually-long 21 minutes because, as an in-house build, Leno can go through the process of putting the whole roadster together. When he takes it for a drive and keeps going on about how it sings, you can hear it, too. It's worth the time to check out Mr. Hall's Opus in the video below.

Lotus Exige S Roadster coming this summer to a circuit near you

Wed, 01 May 2013

We haven't heard much about the Lotus Exige S Roadster since we first saw it at the Geneva Motor Show last year, but Lotus is now confirming the car will go on sale this summer. Of course, unless anything has changed since the car was introduced, Lotus' "ultimate roadster" will still not be coming to the US.
Lotus has released a new video showing its 345-horsepower roadster in action, and while it doesn't even show that much of the car, you can check out our live images of the Exige S Roadster in our gallery. The video, which looks like a knockoff of a Universal Studios movie trailer, is posted below.
