For your consideration is a meticulously cared for 2008 RDSport RS46 for sale by its owner featuring:

The RS46 package takes a stock 4.0 liter S65 and strokes it to 4.6 liters, producing 525HP and an increase of 115 ft-lbs of torque. It is truly an amazing yet comfortable increase in power to this naturally aspirated engine. It mirrors the stock m3 profile and maintains 100 percent of its drivability.

Custom Italian headers with full exhaust system designed in house by Racing Dynamics. This exhaust system is 50 state street legal and has racing catalytic convertors. This is not a cat-delete system with software designed to trick emissions controls. It will pass any and all inspections.  This provides a subtle and deep exhaust tone that is not overly aggressive or loud like other aftermarket systems.

The super-light RC8 forged aluminum wheels in 9.5x19 and 11x19 shod in 265mm rubber in front and 305mm in the back for an aggressive stance. These wheels each weigh about 5 pounds apiece lighter then the stock 19's which gives the car a much more nimble feel with the reduction in un-sprung weight. The Falken tires have approximately 8000 miles on them and are in great condition.

RDSport big brake kit with custom painted Cobalt Blue calipers. Coupling 6 piston calipers and 15" rotors in front with 4 piston calipers and 14.4" rotors in back, this M3 has the stopping power to match its outrageous top speed of over 190mph.

Custom designed Carbon-Kevlar AeroKit in front and rear that gives this vehicle its unique and aggressive look while providing upgraded air flow in front and improved aerodynamics.

Suspension upgrades include RDSport springs and sway bars to improve stance and handling characteristics without sacrificing ride quality. In fact, this M3 still maintains factory EDC.

This car is probably the fastest RS46 out there and features the latest RS46 Engine Software with launch control, oil temperature based rev protection and Euro MDM. The conversion was done with approximately 19,600 miles on the odometer. The car is in fantastic condition and has been maintained with the upmost care. The car has been garage kept and waxed monthly. TWS oil changes performed regularly (every 2500-5000 miles). It comes fully loaded including Premium Package, Technology Package, Navigation, Moonroof, Enhanced Premium Sound and Bluetooth. Also included is an integrated BMW back-up camera, I-pod integration, custom made 3M clear bra, and integrated KW radar detector/laser jammer.  The car is worth 40k before the conversion to a BMW super car.

You won't find a car like this without spending an arm and a leg building it yourself. Take a look at DuPont registry and see what another one is going for!

BMW invests in carbon fiber for use beyond i and M models

Tue, 13 May 2014

The immense amount of resources BMW has poured into its i brand program hasn't stopped, and recent developments indicate it's likely to pay off for BMW and BMW buyers outside the i brand. The i8 has already sold out its first year run, the i3 racked up 10,000 orders before it even went on sale and is already the subject of public discussion about being stretched into an i5, and a new investment in carbon fiber production has the automaker talking about CFRP use in non-i and non-M models.
BMW and SGL Group got together to form SGL Automotive Carbon Fibers (ACF), and the joint venture produces all of the CFRP for the i3 and i8 on two production lines at its plant in Moses Lake, Washington. After already investing $100 million to increase capacity, BMW has announced that another $200 million will add four more production lines, tripling production from 3,000 tons per year to 9,000 tons. When the expansion is complete in 2015, BMW says the Moses Lake facility will be the world's largest carbon fiber plant.
That's a lot of weave and the long view is that it will find its way into core models, with BMW exec Dr. Klaus Draeger saying, "As part of an intelligent mix of materials, we will apply carbon also beyond our BMW i and BMW M models in the future," and be able to do so "at competitive costs and in large quantities."

Gus Van Sant casts the BMW i8 in soft light

Sun, 18 May 2014

BMW has spent the better part of a century building its reputation with fossil-burning transportation, but now it's banking heavily on the success of its new i family of electric vehicles. In order to succeed, it will need to sell examples of the i3, but sell the idea with the i8. And in order to do so, it is going to need some out-of-the-box promotional thinking. And that's just what it seems to have done with this latest campaign of television commercials.
The series of three (or at least that's how many have been released thus far) ads wax more poetic than most of the car ads we've seen. But while they might skimp on the technical details, they don't skip over the talent. The videos are the work of Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant, the cinematic artist best known for films like Good Will Hunting, Milk and Finding Forrester.
Van Sant has also solicited the voices of Sam Hazeldine (Caleb from Resurrection), Sting's daughter Mickey Sumner (Sophie from Frances Ha) and Michael Pitt (Jimmy from Boardwalk Empire), but doesn't hide them behind the microphone in the recording studio. Instead they serve as the face of Bavaria's new hybrid sports car, and the results are rather stunning. See for yourself in the trio of videos below.

BMW sets Guinness record for longest drift with new M5 [w/video]

Wed, 15 May 2013

In September of 2011, Chinese drifter Wang Qi broke the Guinness record for the world's longest sustained drift, doing 13 laps inside the Olympic Center Stadium in Tianlin, China for 5,802.3 meters. That was broken in February of this year by Abdo Feghali in Abu Dhabi drifting a new Chevrolet Camaro around a skidpad for 11,180 meters - almost seven miles. In March, BMW decided it wanted the record "back in the US," and set up a course at its BMW Performance Driving School near Greenville, South Carolina to get the job done. On May, 11 it was Mission Accomplished when Performance Center driver Johan Schwartz drifted an M5 around a skidpad continuously for 51.3 miles.
Despite that accomplishment, we're pretty sure that professional drifter Vaughn Gittin, Jr. isn't impressed. The way Guinness defines "drifting" can also describe a donut, which is effectively the kind of drifting that's been done for these last three records. BMW went even further by watering down the surface of the track, reducing the skill required and the need to change tires during the effort. On the other hand, you can't drift a car for long in a straight line, but perhaps there should be some clarification or classifications added to the milestones.
There's a short video below taken during the record-breaking run, and a press release from the company that did it.
