With reluctance, I am selling my strong-running 1996 Hummer wagon. I purchased this truck about 4 years ago from its 3rd owner, who had purchased it from a minor record company to shuttle artists in style between LA and the Santa Barbara area. Most of its 130,610 miles are freeway driving, at reasonable speeds (its not exactly a sports car, after all). It has been well maintained, and is in even better condition now than when I purchased it. I've always run it with Stanadyne diesel additive since I've owned it, and it comes with a new full gallon container of it. Many details and pictures are listed below, though I'm sure I'm forgetting things. I'm asking $35,000 which is a very reasonable price for this beauty. Truck is located in Orange County, California, and has been in California it's entire life.

Details:
  • 6.5 Liter Turbo-Diesel V8 Engine
  • Viper Bi-Directional Alarm with Remote Start
  • Leather Seats and interior, with wood accents
  • 16.5 Aluminum Wheels w/ 24-bolt Spare (+ run flat) and Bumper Mount Carrier
  • Military OZ tires, decent tread left
  • Stock Aux Fuel Tank (42 gallons total)
  • New Radiator Core
  • Reworked A/C System (stock '96, but basically brand new)
  • Passenger Knee Panel Cut-out
  • Upgraded Steering Wheel
  • Front CTIS Quick Disconnects (have the lines for the rears and spare, just not the valves)
  • Factory Undercarriage Protection
  • AMG Halogen Headlights
  • Remote Mount PMD (pump mounted driver) and extra-large heat sync
  • SMA Hood Snubbers
  • Air Trumpet Horns
  • Short Snorkel
  • Front & Rear Floor Mats
  • Audio system: Pioneer head unit, Clarion speakers, and twin 12" Pioneer subs
  • Dynamat insulation: Firewall, engine cover, center tunnel, and front/rear passenger ceiling is covered in Dynamat Xtreme sound and thermal insulation
  • Recently replaced fan clutch
  • Recently replaced HD Idler and Pitman arms
  • Recently replaced 180-degree twin thermostats
  • Recently replaced fuel lifter pump
  • Twin electric cooling fans (activated either with radiator temp or on A/C activation)

Spare parts:
  • Full set of brand new shocks
  • Fuel tank selector, ready to be installed (existing one works perfectly, I just like spares)
  • 8 New Glow Plugs
  • New Automatic Transmission Filter
  • Various fluids and tools (Lukas oil, pitman puller, grease gun, etc.) in a surplus military footlocker (fits perfectly over the driver rear wheel well)

MEV rocks up with electric mini Hummer HX

2011 MEV Hummer HX - Click above to watch the video after the jump
The 2008 Hummer HX concept was supposed to be General Motors' answer to the Jeep Wrangler. To put it mildly, that failed to materialize. General Motors killed Hummer as part of its bankruptcy-induced limb severing in 2009, before the HX could be brought to fruition as the H4, as had been rumored.
For those of you who wish the HX had indeed surfaced, we have some excellent news: My Electric Vehicle, or MEV, has appropriated the HX concept, added an electric drivetrain and created the MEV Hummer HX. The MEV HX is a fully electric golf cart resort vehicle, licensed by GM and sporting Hummer wheels and skid plates.

Turn Out the Lights: Final Hummer H3 rolls off the line... for Avis

2010 Hummer H3 - Click above for high-res image gallery
Would the last one out the door please switch off the lights? The long strange trip that has been the Hummer brand is just about over for General Motors. The final ever production H3 rolled out of GM's Shreveport, Louisiana factory on Monday May 24, 2010 on its way to an Avis rental car outlet. As you may recall, GM had actually stopped assembling H3s in mid-2009 as it went through bankruptcy, but it resumed production recently in order to fill an 849 unit special order.
GM tried to sell the Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co., Ltd but the deal ultimately fell apart last February. A subsequent offer from Raser Technologies also went nowhere. Now that production has ceased, 200 of the 900 remaining employees at Shreveport will be laid off by July and the rest of the Hummer staff back at headquarters in Detroit is either leaving or being reassigned.

Hummers are for Horses: Artist reimagines the monsterous SUV [w/video]

Horse-drawn Hummer H2 - Click above to view the video after the jump
When the internal combustion engine finally helped the automobile pass the horse-drawn carriage as the chosen method of transportation for a majority of citizens in the United States, that a step in the right direction. Right? Moving forward about a hundred years... when the behemoth Sport Utility Vehicle that never actually seems to venture off the beaten path passed the minivan in the hearts and minds of families across the country as the people-mover of choice, was that a step in the right direction?
If you answered no to either of the above questions, perhaps you'll enjoy the video pasted after the break. Created by artist Jeremy Dean (read about our initial post on the project here), the converted Hummer H2 is called Futurama and is pulled by two white horses named, appropriately enough, Duke and Diesel. Hummers are for horses? See for yourself.
