Year:2006 Mileage:139000

The car currently has 139,xxx miles on it (I do drive it every now and then). It has proven to be a very reliable and economical vehicle. The only reason I am selling it is because I bought a brand new diesel car.  I averaged 47 mpg (hand calculated) in the hilly western Pennsylvania roads.

The good:
The mileage of the car. As you know, these cars are often used to travel long distances, and they rack up lots of miles. Most TDI's in this year range are closer to 200k miles.
The 06 TDI has a few very common problems, one of those being the camshaft wear. The camshaft in this vehicle was replaced at 115k miles, as well as the lifters, timing belt, and a new single mass clutch. So mechanically, aside of routine preventative maintenance, it would not be uncommon to put 50k miles on it, before anything else needs done (check the timing belt)
The car also got new pads/rotors about 15k miles ago
I am including two sets of wheels/tires. The first set (as pictured) are the factory wheels. Two tires have plenty of tread on them, the other two will pass inspection, but I'm a little OCD and I would replace them. The second set of tires are a set of 15" steelies with winter tires (only one season on them). They still have lots of tread left, and the car is damn near unstoppable in the snow with them on.
The car has an aftermarket Clarion head unit with bluetooth
The rear wheel bearings were replaced at 100k
The rear coil springs were replaced at 130k

The bad:
One of the common problems with this year Jetta is the headliner. It is starting to shrink and sag a little bit
There is some surface rust on the driver's side door (I believe the previous owner opened the door and hit something and never addressed the problem)
The plastic gear on the outside passenger door handle doesn't always catch. sometimes you have to pull on it twice to open the door
The door lock/unlock button on the driver's side door doesn't work
The airbag light is on

Volkswagen could outsell GM in China for the first time in nine years

Fri, 27 Dec 2013

As of the end of November, Volkswagen had sold 70,000 more cars than General Motors in China in 2013, making it appear inevitable that VW will outsell GM there. The feat would return the German brand to the top of chart in China for the first time in nine years, but even the second-place getter won't be complaining too loudly: both automakers sold more than three million vehicles in a market pegged to hit 16 million sales this year.
Volkswagen said it could have sold more cars if it had had more production capacity in China. The arrival of a new-to-China Audi A4, a China-built A3 sedan, the VW Bora and Skoda Octavia, as well as an $18.2-billion-euro investment in the country to construct new factories, means VW should see its numbers grow in 2014. GM's lineup is expanding next year, too, adding four Chevrolet nameplates and two vehicles to its Baojun brand as it tries to get to five million in sales by 2015.
Among other automakers, Ford benefited from good product and woes for Japanese automakers over a territorial dispute with China, outselling Toyota by almost 32,000 units through the end of November. The Ford Focus is China's best-selling vehicle so far this year.

Former Porsche boss Wiedeking won't face criminal charges over VW bid

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Hedge fund managers have been suing Porsche for years now, alleging that the car company lied about its intentions during its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen, a gambit that caused them billion in losses. Over the same period, authorities in Stuttgart built a criminal case against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above, left) and Chief Financial Officer Holger Härter (right), filing charges in December 2012. When those fund plaintiffs lost their most recent court case, one of the dimming lights in the dark and receding tunnel was that the criminal investigation might unearth more evidence about Porsche's actions that could help the plaintiffs in pending litigation.
Bloomberg reports that another light has gone out, though, with a Stuttgart court dismissing the market manipulation case before going to trial because, as a court spokesperson said, "there wasn't enough evidence backing up the charges." When prosecutors get the files back from the court, they have a week to decide to refile, but unless they've been sandbagging evidence that could bolster the case, the only lights at the end of the tunnel will be those welcoming Wiedeking and Härter back to the world of legally unencumbered men.

VW promises 7-seat CUV for America in 2016

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen chief executive Martin Winterkorn has confirmed the imminent arrival of a new crossover. The model, previewed at the same show last year by the CrossBlue concept pictured here, will be unique to the North American market when it arrives here in 2016. The new three-row, seven-seat crossover is part of an ambitious expansion plan on the part of Volkswagen and Audi in North America, where the two brands aim to sell a million vehicles by 2018.
That's a mighty big increase over the 600,000 vehicles which the Volkswagen Group sold here last year, but it's moving in the right direction: That number is already a 100-percent increase of what it sold here just five years ago. At that rate, VW should have little trouble meeting its goals, particularly with the arrival of the new crossover and the introduction of Golf production at its assembly plant in Puebla, Mexico.
