1971 VW Bus sunroof camper, Sidemount tent, 1776cc enigine, original paint, Extras!
Want to take your family camping tomorrow in a VW bus? 1000s of miles away? Want a very original bus? with no bondo? original paint? Want one of the best years for the VW bus? last year for the bettle style engine (type 1) first year for front disc brakes. 1 ton carrying capacity. If you answered yes to any of these, this is the bus for you. I just returned from a 2 week, 1k mile trip through the Adirondacks in late june. Mechanically excellent, very original body. Needs nothing to be enjoyed Today! Passed inspection with flying colors in March. This is my daily driver, its my primary car and in great mechanical shape. The body has just the right amount of patina to it to make it awesome. Very complete and thorough turn key rebuild by local reputable builder encompassing 16 months. strong engine, babied since day one. it can pass tractor trailers up a hill. Never over revved. never over heated, and never ran hot. 30k miles on rebuild. 1776 cc Dual HPMX 40mm carbs Mahle pistons gene berg oil pump, gene berg full flow kit with external oil filter. Gene Berg solid rocker shafts Steve Tims 37x32 heads cb performance elephant foot adjusters cb performance Cheater cam cb performance re-manufactured lifters steel push rods Stainless push rod tubes Cb performance re-manufactured balanced connecting rods Recent pertronix point replacement on 009 7.8:1 cr for cooler running Crank was machined and cleaned Case was lapped and align bored. oil dip stick temperature monitor Cb performance exhaust replaced last fall All original tin work in place and reworked over during rebuild including hover bit Always ran proper level of zinc oil. All but the last oil change has been valvoline racing oil. In the last few years i have replaced: Both front calipers all the rubber brake lines Master cylinder Drop link Just replaced all 4 ball joints last month Always maintained. Camper interior is from a 78 deluxe camper with the exception of the 71 jump seat. Sun roof works, but not with the crank, i just push it open or close. if you want to use the crank it just needs new cables. Has appropriate 6 ply 1 ton tires. When the ball joints failed this winter, the front ones got a little cupped but are still with in spec. My inspection station said by next inspection will need 2 new fronts. A beautiful original side mount tent. The fabric is bright and in excellent shape. Some of the rubber rings that hold the hooks on, for the frame, have been replaced by string as the plastic welds break with age. I have all frame pieces, and even most of the original stakes and strings. Some slight separating of the fabric from the rain gutter rubber, a few inches on each end. see picture! its about the same on both ends. Still works like new. over all its in excellent shape. the transmission has a grind going into 3rd, if you shift slow and cautious, its not there. Shifter is a little sloppy. The headliner is in not great shape. some spots have been duct taped. Its so old and brittle it seems if you touch it, it rips. I had intended on just gluing some vinyl over the worse parts. but never got around to it. has surface rust, but only one small soft spot in the passenger side rocker. Very common. aside from that one soft spot, there is no other rot. You could repair the small spot and paint it to make it last another 40 years, or just drive it the way it is. lots of the original undercoating is still there as seen in the pictures. I also have an adventure wagon high roof. I was going to put it on the bus, no cutting needed as it has a sun roof. never got around to it. The fiberglass is in great shape, needs the seal between the body and the top. its a generic seal you can pick up online. its an excellent addition. A rare dealer installed trailer hitch. I have used to tow up to 1K lbs. Original Childs Cot. I have more extras to toss in, as the bidding goes up more will get thrown in. Check back. The kayak is not included but the roof rack is. If you are not in new england and make a bid, contact me before the bidding ends, or i will remove your bid. I will deliver it up to a 50-75 mile radius. The high roof will need to be thrown into a pick up truck or something. please ask any questions you may have. you can even come see it. Maine does not title cars of this age, however if you are in a state that requires titles, its an easy and quick process to go through. |

Volkswagen Group previews its wares on eve of Geneva show
Mon, 05 Mar 2012The Volkswagen Group is comprised of 11 brands producing 240 vehicles across 49 factories throughout the world. So the best way to show off the range of the VW family is to cram a few thousand journalists and VIPs into a massive makeshift stand to outline the Group's goals, what's in the pipeline and what you'll be able to buy later this year.
To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, bringing along 10 vehicles from across the range. We'll be delving into the details of each over the next two days of show coverage, but before that happens, you can read all about what we saw tonight from the cheap seats after the break.
Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish
Wed, 10 Jul 2013A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.
