Thanks for checking out my bus.  I purchased this a year ago from a nice lady who intended to convert it into a food truck near Providence, RI (she found one in better condition).  She had purchased it a few years before from a lot where it had been lying dormant for some time.

Before getting her on the road, we put on new tires, redid the entire brake system, and a fair amount of the electrical (there is more work to be done on electrical).  Intending to go all the way down for my move to New Orleans, the generator gave out and the smoke did some damage to the upper intake manifold.  Over the course of trying to get it repaired, we had new spark plugs, a new carburetor, and a new motor put in.  At the moment, she starts, but the issue with the manifold is such that she does not idle very well.  (She didn't idle so well on the drive down, but I learned the trick to keep her running at stoplights).

She's a really good vehicle that is not too far from being entirely dependable.  She needs a bit of work.  Not very much to get her back on the road, but someone with the time and knowledge could do some absolute wonders with her.  I made it down to New Orleans without her, got a new car, and simply do not have the time or money to spend on rehabilitating a second vehicle.  Someone who does would be tremendously rewarded.

She's presently with a repair shop in Rocky Mount, NC (right off I-95) and I want her to find a good home.  The friendly folks at the shop will be able to tell you far more than I could about her condition, etc, and I'd be happy to put serious, interested buyers in touch.

I would recommend that the purchaser either have this vehicle towed to where they live, or else speak with the kind folks at the shop to work on the next round of repairs to get it moving.  It does start, and my guess is that one with the golden touch could likely keep it from stalling, but I think the safe bet is to give it some work before putting it on the road.

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO PULL OFF ONE OF THOSE NIGERIAN/W. UNION SCAMS, PLEASE MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ITEM.  DO NOT WASTE MY TIME.

I'm sorry to everyone else for having to go "all caps", but someone attempted that the first time and I found it to be frustrating and a waste of time.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions and thanks again for your interest.

Volkswagen iBeetle gets integrated iPhone dock, little else

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

Apple fans have been itching to see the tech giant flex the full muscle of its iOS operating system in an automotive infotainment system for years, which is why we turned all sorts of excited when we caught wind of the Volkswagen iBeetle. The machine is headed to the Shanghai Motor Show for a debut, and VW promised it would be one of the "first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple." Listen closely, and you can hear the contented sigh of a million wallets opening.
Go ahead and close those up, kids.
In reality, the iBeetle offers little more than a dash-mounted dock and a special app that shows a few vehicle functions, which is about as far from an infotainment revolution as you're likely to find. In fact, the setup is little more than a factory rehash of aftermarket items, and hardly worth a whole model debut at an international motor show. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Apple relishes in changing the shape and form of its darling handheld at every generation. Volkswagen better be prepared to keep pace with appropriate docking mechanisms for the upcoming iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, et al.

UK auto magazine says this is the best car commercial of all time [w/videos]

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

There have been many great car commercials over the years, but is it possible to define the best? Well, Ad Week recently took a crack at it by rating the top commercials of the year by looking at their view counts on YouTube, but Auto Express took a more democratic approach by putting the decision to a vote. Just after Thanksgiving, Auto Express came up with a list of the 20 popular commercials, and it tasked its readers with choosing the winner for the best car ad of all time. The winner? Honda's 2003 commercial for its then-new European Accord titled "The Cog."
While the ad never aired in the US, most car people have surely seen the impressive Rube Goldberg-style spot. In fact, the only commercial on this list that we saw on US television was the Volkswagen ad "The Force," but many of the others have become viral videos, including transforming and dancing Citroën C4. Of the 19 other commercials that vied for the title of best ad of all time, only the Ford Puma "Steve McQueen" commercial gave Honda a run for its advertising money.
Scroll down to watch Auto Express' top five commercial in order and to check out a press release, then let us know some of your favorite car commercials in Comments.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
