2001 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE 5-PASSENGER MINIVAN
Mileage - 281,348

This is a high-mileage vehicle that is perfect for the person who needs another jobsite vehicle, or for salvage of parts and scrap.

The interior is in rough condition as is the exterior. The leather seats are banged up and the carpeting is shot. Externally there are some dings and dents, but nothing that would compromise the vehicle itself (no rust holes). It will NOT turn heads, but it WILL get you from point A to point B with all your stuff, if that is how you choose to use it.
This van runs strong and is mechanically in decent working order, but has its share of warts. It was taken in on a trade for a new van, but beyond adding a new battery so the van would run, we have not altered or reviewed the van since taking it in. It does crank right up on a cold NY morning which speaks to the mechanical strength of the vehicle and drives just fine. The 'Check Engine' light is not on, and it does have a NYS Emissions Inspection sticker valid until the end of March, 2014, which would lead one to believe that it will pass inspection. There is some minor oil smoke coming from the engine, but for a vehicle of this age and mileage that is to be expected. The radio and heat work, as do the power windows and locks. A/C has not been tested, but is believed to work or need a simple recharge. Vehicle comes with a remote keyFOB but it does not work. It is unknown whether it needs a battery or it is just broken, but that DOES mean you can acquire a replacement remote for it.

You can see the vehicle at 27 Halstead Ave in Harrison, NY 10528. Call 914-777-7111 to inquire, ask for Steven.

Toyota recalling 1.9M Prius models globally for software update

Wed, 12 Feb 2014

Toyota has announced a set of voluntary recalls covering 960,000 Prius, RAV4, Tacoma and Lexus RX350 models in the United States to address two separate issues. Worldwide, Toyota will have to recall a total of 1.9 million Prius cars.
The Prius recall affects about 700,000 2010-2014 models in the US, due to a fault in the motor/generator control ECU and hybrid control ECU software. It says that the current software could result in high temperatures on certain transistors and possibly damage them. When it fails, the error forces the car into failsafe mode. Toyota says that in rare circumstances, it could even shut the hybrid system down while the car is being driven.
Toyota spokeswoman Shino Yamada told Automotive News that the software update should take about 40 minutes, and dealers would start to be notified about affected vehicles today. She also told them that the first reported glitch occurred in May 2011 in the US when the system overheated and the car entered failsafe mode. The affected cars were built between March 2009 and Feb. 5, 2014, according to Automotive News. Toyota says that it has received no reports of accidents or injuries caused by either fault.

Toyota mini doc chronicles Tundra towing Space Shuttle Endeavor

Thu, 21 Mar 2013

Toyota has worked up a quick video detailing the brand's involvement in the transportation of the Space Shuttle Endeavour last year. As you may recollect, the California Science Center ran into a hitch when it came to moving Endeavour from LAX to its new home. While most of the route would be covered by a robotically controlled transporter, one portion of the route directed the shuttle over an interstate. Unfortunately, the bridge across wasn't designed to stand up to the weight of the shuttle and its motorized sled.
The Science Center would have to remove Endeavour from its transporter and place it on a lighter, non-motorized sled. That's where longtime Science Center sponsor Toyota came in. As it turns out, the automaker had to prove to the California Science Center that a Tundra could actually tow the massive shuttle, so engineers put on a little demonstration with a stock truck pulling the equivalent weight over flat ground for the same distance. Once the Science Center was satisfied that the Tundra could pull it off, the move was green lit and the rest is history. Check out the short documentary below for yourself.

Toyota recalling 10k vehicles to fix wiper switches

Fri, 11 Oct 2013

Toyota has announced a voluntary recall covering approximately 10,000 cars in the United States. Affected models include the 2013-14 Camry and Camry Hybrid, 2013-14 Avalon and Avalon Hybrid, and the brand new 2014 Corolla.
The problem, as Toyota explains it, is that, "During manufacture of the wiper switch assembly in the involved vehicles, certain contacts on the switch terminal could have been manufactured incorrectly." This could lead to a short in the circuit when the wiper switch is moved between "off" and "mist," and thus, cause the windshield wipers to stop working. Not good.
Toyota will contact owners via first class mail, and the vehicles can be repaired at dealerships, free of charge. Have a look below for the automaker's official statement.
