OVERVIEW: This 1972 FJ40 is in awesome shape with one exception: The original F engine was recently rebuilt and after only 2,000 miles the engine threw a rod and is currently out of commission. The good news is, you can probably pick this Cruiser up pretty cheap because of the issue and either rebuilding the engine or replace it and you'll have a killer ride!

  • Clean Colorado title
  • Original F engine and 3 speed manual transmission ( on the floor )
  • 4WD works great
  • Engine was recently rebuilt, and appears to have been done well (obviously, except for the fact that it threw a rod...it's hypothesized that the 17-year old who drove it may have driven it in such a way to have caused this).
  • New clutch
  • New Weber carb
  • New brake master and booster
  • New coil
  • New fuel pump
  • New radiator
  • New MSD Ignition
  • All gauges work and the speedo needle looks brand new
  • Passed emissions a couple years back (expect it will pass again)
  • 3-4" Pro Comp Lift
  • 33" x 12.5 x 15" Tires
  • Aluminum wheels
  • New Bestop Full Soft Top
  • Recent paint job
  • All glass is in clean condition
  • All original and OEM parts used whenever/wherever possible
  • AM/FM CD Player with four speakers works and sounds great. Can easily be removed if looking to keep it completely factory.
  • All the original knobs are there and everything works
  • Blinkers, lights, and interior lights all work
  • Factory tow hitch with wiring for trailer ready to go
  • Original rear bumperettes
  • Original rear jump seats
  • Original front bench seat recently reupholstered and looks great
  • This truck is very much an "OEM" truck.
  • Even the oil filter is a Toyota oil filter and there are TEQ stamps on most everything.
  • Warn 8274 winch works great
Here are the down sides (at least according to a FJ purist who appreciates an all-original FJ40):

1) Obviously, the biggest down side is that the engine blew a rod. That said, everything else in this rig is pretty much brand new and you can tell it was cared for. From the Toyota emblems, to the radiator, brake lights, coil, and other interior parts, you can see that that the person cared about having NOS Toyota parts replaced. If you're handy and can rebuild the engine yourself, you're going to have a really nice rig at a steal of a price. Even if you pay someone to rebuild the engine, you'll still be ahead at $5,500.

2) The paint job is just okay. It looks nice and presents extremely well, but it's not a top of the line, $6000 paint job. Of course, this is not a $25,000 asking price, either. So, for what it is, the paint job is really pretty nice and it's a head-turner the way it is.

3) The interior wasn't painted to match. The dash is green and the interior doors are black. It doesn't look awful, but if I were looking to keep this rig and restore it, I would either look to match the interior with the same color as the exterior or do the body and the paint right.

4) The metal is in good shape with the exception of the rear corners and a small bit of rust by the rockers. The fenders are beautiful, as is the hood, apron, rear barn doors, front doors, front windshield frame and interior floor boards. The underbody is in really good shape, as is to be expected for a Colorado vehicle.

5) There is some overspray on the steering wheel, but this should easily be cleaned up                 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409639 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409638 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409637 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409636 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409635 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409634 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409633 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409632 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409630 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409628 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409627 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409626 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409625 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409624 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409623 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409622 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409620 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409619 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409618 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409617 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409616 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409615 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409614 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409613 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409612 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409611 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409610 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409609 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409608 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409607 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409605 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409603 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409600 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409598 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409597 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409595 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409594 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409593 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409592 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409591 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409590 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409588 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409587 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409586 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409585 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409584 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409583 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409582 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409581 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409580 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409579 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409578 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409577 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409576 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409575 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409574 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409573 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409567 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409566 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409565 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409564 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409563 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409562 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409561 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409560 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409559 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409558 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409557 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409556 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409555 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409554 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409553 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409552 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409551 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409550 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409549 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409548 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409547 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409546 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409545 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409544 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409543 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409536 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409533 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409531 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409530 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409529 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409527 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409526 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409525 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409524 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409523 1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409522   1972-Toyota-Land-Cruiser-FJ409521

Cosworth announces Power Packages for Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S with up to 380 hp [w/video]

Sat, 31 May 2014

Cosworth stands on the list of the most famous engine tuners in the world with its DFV engine engine dominating Formula One for a time in the '70s. So when it teases plans to take on the FA20 engine from Subaru and Toyota found in the BRZ, Scion FR-S and Toyota GT86 abroad, our interest is indeed piqued. Cosworth is promising to take the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine from its current 200 horsepower all the way to 325 hp and even 380 hp in a future track version through a series of staged Power Packages. At the moment, only the first stage is available that takes the mill to a potent 230 hp.
Cosworth says that its new strategy is to offer its upgrades in kits rather than individually so that it can be sure that everything works and fits when owners receive it. The Stage 1 Power Package emphasizes helping the FA20 breathe better and includes a nearly complete replacement for the stock exhaust system. There is a sports exhaust with four-inch, diagonally cut, polished tips and Y-shaped muffler, an overpipe front pipe with a spherical resonator and a new manifold header that is 22 percent lighter the standard unit. In addition to that, the kit comes with a software reflash, low temperature thermostat, Cosworth badge and plaque.
The stage one kit is available now, and stages two and three go on sale later this summer, according to its website. Autoblog contacted Cosworth for pricing information for the kits. We will update this story, if we hear back. The company also released a video showing off the exhaust upgrades. Scroll down to watch it and read the full release, below.

Toyota plans biggest stock buyback in over a decade

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

At the end of December, 2013 Toyota had a cash stockpile of 1.8 trillion yen ($17.5B US). As of March 31, at the end of its current financial year, company coffers are expected to swallow another 1.9 trillion yen ($18.4B US) in net profit - said to be a record sum for the Japanese automaker. In a gesture signaling a turnaround from the horrors of the global recession, Bloomberg reports that Toyota will buy back 60 million shares of its stock, as much as 1.89 percent of the company, for something like 360 billion yen ($3.5B US). It's the first buyback since 2009 and the largest buyback since 2003, when it spent roughly 390 billion yen ($3.8B US) repurchasing shares.
Company president Akio Toyoda founded the Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), a non-profit that will support international groups working on transportation issues in emerging markets. Half of the stock that Toyota buys, 30 million shares, will be sold to the foundation via the Japanese Trustee Services Bank for one yen per share, the dividend providing the foundation's initial funding. The other 30 million shares will be canceled, a company spokesman telling Reuters that the company wants to reward shareholders.
Industry analysts have been asking Toyota to either return money to shareholders or invest in new factories, but Toyota has ruled out the latter. After getting burned with excess capacity when the financial crisis came, the company is focused on extracting efficiencies from the plants it already has. Toyota has said it plans to complete the buyback by June of this year.

Toyota issues stop sale on 6 key models over seat fabrics; recall possible? [UPDATE]

Thu, 30 Jan 2014

Toyota has issued a stop-sale order on six of its core models due to concerns about the flammability of certain seat fabrics. The issue rests not with the cloth and leather covers themselves, but with a piece of seat heater beneath them that fails to meet US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for flame retardancy.
There have been no reports of fires or injuries from the affected cars, which include some of Toyota's biggest volume sellers. 2013 and 2014 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon and Sienna models equipped with heated seats are included in the stop-sale, as are 2014 Tundra pickups and Corolla sedans. The exact number of vehicles with the non-compliant materials are still being tabulated, according to The Detroit Free Press.
According to a Toyota spokesman, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been notified, although it remains to be seen if a recall will be issued. Outside of a full recall, though, it's unclear how Toyota will deal with vehicles equipped with the flammable materials that have already found homes.
