1985 Toyota Celica Gt Coupe, 22re, Very Low Miles, Original Paint, Automatic on 2040-cars
Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, United States
For sale is my 1985 Celica GT Coupe. I purchased from the original owner years ago. Car is in near perfect condition. As rust free as you will find for a car of this age. Underside of car as clean as the top. Undercoating and factory rust treatment looks like they could have been done yesterday, yet it is the original. Original paint. Interior shows very minimal wear. Working factory options include sunroof, cruise control, air conditioning, power steering and front disc brakes, 22RE engine, 4 speed auto transmission, AM-FM stereo, power mirrors, fuel injection, tilt wheel, tinted glass, split fold down rear seats, floor mats, etc. Original spare, jack and tool kit appear unused.
New tires on recently refinished factory Toyota alloy GTS/Supra wheels. Balance weights installed on inside of wheels for a cleaner look that do not mark the wheel front. I have the original window sticker, warranty book, and owners manual. If the "Buy it Now" option is used I will include the original set of steel wheels, trim rings and center caps, (several caps are "New Old Stock") Factory Toyota Celica service manual, rare original Celica sales brochure, car cover; all in nice condition. When I purchased the car the engine ran great and had perfect compression in all cylinders, but under acceleration seemed to "ping." An experienced certified Toyota mechanic suggested engine disassembly in spite of the low miles. Number 4 piston was found damaged. The engine block was in perfect condition. After carefully cleaning the cylinder walls the engine was rebuilt using quality parts from LCE Engineering. This included 4 new pistons, rings, bearings, wrist pins, fuel injectors, balanced oil and water pumps, fuel filter, distributor, throttle position sensor, plugs, all new gaskets and radiator, etc. The 22RE is known for timing chain guide issues so since the engine was already apart the "single row" timing setup was converted to a "dual row" chain to include replacing the factory plastic guides with upgraded steel ones. A new timing cover was installed to accommodate the dual row setup. All parts from LCE Engineering. No expense spared in this conversion. This is now the smoothest running 22RE I have ever heard. Starts with just a "touch" of the key. It is well tuned and sorted out. Please note that the EGR system was deleted during the rebuild by utilizing quality block off plates from LCE Engineering. Mud guards are old school after market and were installed using existing holes and hardware. All original parts removed from the engine have been retained and go with the car if desired. EGR system could be reinstalled, but I don't know why anyone would want to do that. These are notorious for causing the #4 piston to overheat. I do not have to sell this car, but too many other projects demand my time. Available for inspection prior to auction end. A bid on this car is a commitment to buy. Car is a PA registered antique. Reserve is well below my investment. This car appears to have been garaged all its life. Car is normally stored on my drive-on lift which makes for simple inspection. Ask any questions prior to auction end. Thank you for viewing my auction and check my 100% feedback. |

Toyota must go to trial over unintended acceleration suits
Tue, 08 Oct 2013Toyota is surely readying its trial lawyers, as the Japanese giant is officially headed to court in a pair of cases relating to its unintended acceleration fiascos of 2009 and 2010.
In the first case, the United States Supreme Court has actually got involved in matters, ignoring an appeal from Toyota that attempted to use an arbitrator to settle its California lawsuits. The automaker will now go to trial to face owners of 2010 Prius models over an alleged defect with the anti-lock braking systems, which plaintiffs say made the cars more difficult to stop, according to Bloomberg.
The second trial is a bit more in depth, covering the case of Ida St. John, an 83-year-old from Georgia, that crashed her 2005 Camry in 2009. The accident is believed to have played a part in her death, although the suit, being filed by her grandson, doesn't actually place blame on Toyota for her death.
BMW, Toyota outline new tech joint venture, new sports car
Fri, 25 Jan 2013Back in June, Toyota and BMW announced a "memorandum of understanding" outlining plans for the two companies to join forces on future products and technology development. On Thursday, they signed a more formal and binding agreement that goes further into detail about the partnership, and it all sounds pretty exciting. The two announced they will work together in four main areas:
Joint development of a fuel cell system
"Set up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports vehicle"
Sales incentive growth clustered around brands with few CUVs, trucks
Wed, 24 Sep 2014While it's arguably been around the longest, the dominance of the four-door sedan has been under threat for many years. As a further sign of the hurtin' that SUVs and crossovers have put on today's four-doors, a new report from Automotive News points to the increasing use of incentives by brands reliant on cars and light on CUVs and pickups.
Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Kia have all been stung by double-digit increases in their incentives-to-transaction price ratio, according to AN, which cites data from TrueCar. Honda's ratio is up 14 percent, while Toyota, VW and Kia are up 18, 15 and 19 percent, respectively.
"Most of the incentive growth we have seen is in product segments with low demand - midsized or large sedans," TrueCar CEO John Krafcik told AN. "As this trend goes on, the brands with three-sedan strategies are going to be in worse shape on incentive spending than the crossover brands."
