Year:1992 Mileage:115000

Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, United States

This is a really nice classic 900. I was amazed at the condition. There is no rust on the car. I have been driving it from State College to Altoona the past month for work with no problems and I have been getting about 22 miles to a gallon! The leather is in great shape minus the hole on the side of the drivers seat and stitching. No cracking at all! The top is in great condition minus the stretching below the back window. I just cleaned and conditioned it and there are NO LEAKS! Car has less about 115K original on it. I also have the convertible boot cover with the bag! Car runs and drives amazing for being 22 years old.

I took it down to Smeltz Auto in Lewisburg, PA (only place I know of that works on Saabs) and they checked the car out. I was told it is in great shape with no rust. At that time I had the AC serviced and retro fitted to R134 and it blows ICE COLD! They serviced the transmission and did a full syn oil change for me. The guy I got it from didn't really like the car and didn't really know the history of it. Smeltz said that they believed the transmission had been replaced at one time and didn't find anything in it when they serviced it.

I have done the following to the car since I bought it;

1. Fixed the dash lights and they all work
2. Fixed the radio installation because whoever put the new radio in it only used the front speakers
3. Fixed the back antenna assembly to actually work
4. Put new headlight bulbs in
6. Put new heater core in

The brakes and tires are like new. Exhaust is an aftermarket one and more "throaty" then the stock exhaust I am use to on the classic 900 Turbos.  Windshield looks like it is brand new as well.

The things I believe are wrong with the car is more cosmetic then anything. The inside door cloth covers need replaced, back cloth on the side of the speaker covers need replaced, front drivers seat (as mentioned above) and the paint is really faded on the hood. The two mechanical things is that the steering is getting harder to turn so pump, rack or might be a steering knuckle? I'm not sure. There is also a vacum leak in the cruise control line. Sometimes the cruise works and sometimes it doesn't. When it does it'll slowly release and loose speed.

My intention with this car was to work on with my son but we ended up getting another car and really don't want this one taking up room in the garage but will if we don't/can't sell it. I would have no issues driving this car anywhere and will continue to drive it to work in Altoona from Bellefonte until I sell it or winter finally gets here.

Price is negotiable so if you are interested shoot me a message.  I really want to get this car gone before the winter.  I would NOT hesitate to drive it anywhere in the USA.  I just want to see this go to another Saab guy or gal.

ADDED:
The top goes up and down with the button, no problems.  No sounds, hesitation, etc.  Windows all go up and down.  Mirrors work with switches.  Engine has full synthetic in it....5w40 and changed right before I got it.

The instrument cluster was changed at Euro Motors in Harrisburg and shows milage of 140,000 and I have paperwork for the job from them in the glovebox.  True milage is around 115K give or take a couple hundred.

Stereo is a Pioneer CD with audio jack to plug an MP3 player or your phone.  BEST part of driving it is having clean clear music coming out of the speakers.

If you buy the car I could deliver within 200 miles for an extra $200 October 4th.

Saab 9-3 production has restarted

Sun, 01 Dec 2013

If you're one of the small cadre of Saab drivers, first of all, kudos to you. Because as Top Gear pointed out, Saab drivers are among the most intellectual drivers out there. Secondly, we've got good news for you, because the 9-3 has officially resumed production at the Trollhättan plant in Sweden.
For those of you who may not have followed the story, a quick refresher: Founded in 1947, Saab Automobile AB was an independent automaker until 1989 when General Motors began the decade-long process acquiring it. Unable to make it profitable, GM sold Saab to Spyker in 2010, but that Dutch automaker proved unable to make a go of it, either, and finally shut it down a year later. Much of Saab's assets were acquired by National Electric Vehicle Sweden, which in turn is partially owned by the Chinese city of Qingdao, which pledged to get production back online by the end of the year.
NEVS has apparently made good on its promise, bringing 600 workers back to the factory to resume production of the 9-3 much as it was when a workforce of 3,500 labored on it and its stablemates prior to the bankruptcy. The reborn 9-3 will be sold in Sweden and in China, with an electric version to bring some other updates sometime next year.

GM recalling 524k vehicles over hood latches and toe link nuts

Fri, 03 Oct 2014

Just hours after confirming to Autoblog its intention to recall 97,540 vehicles in the US (117,651 in North America) for a possible manufacturing defect in the chassis control module of several models, General Motors is issuing two more campaigns that affect another 379,401 units in the US (524,384 in North America).
One campaign covers 290,107 US examples of the 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and the 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X because the "rear toe link adjuster lock nuts" may be improperly torqued. If not up to spec, the toe adjuster link could separate and allow the wheel to shift while driving, making the handling unstable. GM says that it knows of three crashes and two injuries as a result of this problem. Dealers are inspecting the nuts and installing a new link assembly, if necessary. Autoblog first reported about this potential issue when it showed up on a list of recalls from Transport Canada.
The second recall is for 89,294 examples of the 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark in the US manufactured from January 17, 2012, through July 29, 2014. According to GM, "corrosion can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position." If this happens, and the primary latch also isn't engaged for some reason, the hood could fly open while driving. About 13,000 of these affected Sparks are at dealers and are being held until repaired. The fix requires replacing the hood striker. GM isn't aware of crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this problem.

Grainy leaked images show stillborn Castriota-designed Saab 9-3

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

The Saab faithful are going to be playing the "what if" game for years to come. It's one of the burdens of being a fan of a dead brand. A fresh batch of grainy 9-3 Phoenix images have made their way online, alleged shots of a design proposal penned by none other than Jason Castriota. The five-door looks to feature an honest liftback, though SaabsUnited.com says this particular vehicle was drawn up as part of a business plan in early 2011. As such, Castriota apparently told the site the final product was to look much more athletic than what we see here. While the low-resolution images make it difficult to tell much about the design, we certainly appreciate the familiar roofline, full band taillamps and the contrasting rear spoiler reminiscent of the old Saab 99 and 900 ducktails.
Unfortunately, we know all too well why this creation never saw the light of day. Would-be savior Victor Muller couldn't quite pull Saab out of its nosedive, and the company fell into bankruptcy before the 9-3 Phoenix could get off the ground. There's talk of the Phoenix platform and Saab brand having new life in other markets as EVs and even as gas cars, but the model seen here will likely never see production - let alone North American showrooms.
