Relisted due to timewaster (bwcollier5871) who had their offer accepted by me and then didn't pay!

The 1989 Porsche 928 S4 was amazingly technologically advanced for its day. Aluminum body panels, weissach rear axle (passive 4-wheel steering), climate control, central warning panel, digital dash with trip computer, etc. It sold for $75,000 in 1989. Now, 24 years later, I still enjoy the way it handles and holds its own. I had always wanted one of these since I was a kid, so when the opportunity arose I bought one. I drove it to work every day and maintained and improved it regardless of cost. It has always brought a smile to my face. Now it's time to move on.

Owned by me and driven on highway journeys daily (the last 55,000 miles) since September 2009. Always maintained by Porsche specialist (Carl’s Place, Las Vegas) who I can't recommend highly enough - they know this car inside and out. Comprehensive receipts for more than $26,000 in last 4 years - Yes, $26,000! (it made my eyes water when I added it up...)

The genuine Porsche 18” wheels (Carrera III) alone retail for $3,500 if you can find them (I still have the original wheels with tires (one with a nail in it) which are included as part of the sale).

New rear tires, , battery, timing belt (Gates racing belt), Tensioner (Porkensioner), Engine Guardian Water Pump Drive System, PKlamp, silicone vacuum lines, spark plugs, leads, coils, distributor caps, air pump, 928 Motorsports aluminium radiator, 928 Motorsports twin electric fan upgrade, coolant change, thermostat. Air conditioning blows cold, power memory seats + mirror. Jager Engineering shifter and surround, Bluetooth hands-free stereo, 4-channel amp, upgraded speakers and crossovers (MB Quart – included, but not all fitted yet). Very good quality ceramic tint, custom exhaust.

Reason for sale - I've loved using this as my daily driver for 4 years, but now I have a family and a large dog who just don't understand why I need such a selfish car. So I have bought a 2002 Audi S6 wagon (very nice!) which has replaced this Porsche as my daily driver and doubles as a family/dog-friendly transport. This is your chance to own a good 928 that has been thoroughly cared for, regularly driven, never abused, and enthusiastically upgraded. Please don't buy one that's been in storage or is much cheaper but has no maintenance history. You'll probably regret it. Don't be put off by the mileage - 153k over 24 years is less than 7k miles per year. I had the block checked with a leakdown test recently and I was told that it was still within factory tolerances for a new engine.

Experian Autocheck - Accident - You will see an accident recorded in June 2009. It was a BEFORE I bought the car so I was very particular about checking it out before I parted with my money. The accident was a VERY slow speed rear end so required only a rear bumper repair, including paint and trimmings. The body shop bill was for $1705 (I have a copy of the receipt which lists the parts and labor). The previous owner was a detective in Seattle, Wa.

Condition is good, but this is not a concours or show car (although I have taken it to some Porsche 928 meetings, and occasionally to Cars and Coffee Las Vegas on a Saturday morning where it gets a lot of interest, even amongst Lambos, Ferraris and classic muscle cars, corvettes etc.). I have spent lots of money willingly to keep the mechanicals in good reliable order as I am in the military and not showing up at work due to car trouble is a no no. I have upgraded many components to more modern standards where possible. If you want extra photos of anything in particular, let me know. I have also digitized the history documentation, so I can supply that too. There are some nicely touched up spots on the doors (quarter dollar sized), just below the mirrors, apparently this is quite common.

This car is sold AS IS, no warranty given or implied. However, I hope it goes to a good home, as I get great satisfaction from having preserved and improved one of the great cars to pass on to another enthusiast who should get many years of walking out to a car that will make him or her smile.

New battery fitted. Two new rear tires fitted.

Porsche 960 could come with quad-turbo flat-eight engine

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

Getting a bead on the target that is the so-called Porsche 960 is not easy, as the target keeps moving. First labeled the 960, then the 961, and now back to being called the 960, it is Porsche's take on a supercar specifically aimed at Ferrari - the latest report in Automobile says that Porsche's internal moniker for it is "FeFi," which stands for "Ferrari Fighter." Because it is expected to cost as much as the top-tier V12 Ferrari, Porsche wants the engine solution to justify the price tag. That means, according to author Georg Kacher, a 3.9-liter, quad-turbo flat-eight engine with 650 horsepower.
Last summer, the engine was mooted to be a twin-turbo flat six. A few months later, the rumor was that it would use the 4.6-liter V8 from the 918 and have about 570 horsepower. This new mid-engine configuration would be quite the leap, giving the 960 more power than the 918 Spyder (pictured) and 911 GT2 RS, and utilize other tech features like four adjustable camshafts and "a complex multistage intake manifold." In this scenario, power would be run through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
Build materials are still slated to be a hodgepodge of materials including aluminum, steel, carbon fiber, titanium and magnesium. The boosted flat-eight, all-wheel drive and a 3,000-pound weight could get the 960 from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. Since it is looking squarely at Ferrari, the idea that the 960 will be a "four-door coupe" can probably be put to rest. For now.

Porsche Macan to get four-cylinder engines

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

Porsche hasn't offered a four-cylinder engine since the 968 went out of production in 1995 - the better part of two decades ago. There'd been talk of a four-pot Boxster or an even smaller model to slot in below it, but while the latest intel indicates that Porsche is moving ahead with its four-cylinder plans, it's a different kind of vehicle that will get it first.
That, of course, would be the new Macan. Just revealed a few weeks ago at the LA Auto Show, the Macan crossover is being launched with a pair of twin-turbocharged V6 engines (a 3.0 with 340 horsepower and a 3.6 with 400 hp) and a six-cylinder turbodiesel with 258 hp. But smaller engines, according to emerging reports from Autocar and Auto Express, are on their way.
Word has it that Porsche is preparing a 2.0-liter turbo four with 280 horsepower and a diesel with the same displacement and cylinder count, engines that will power new entry-level Macan models that will slot in beneath the existing Macan S, Macan S Diesel and Macan Turbo. While the diesel is tipped to be ported over from the Volkswagen parts bin, the four-cylinder gasoline engine is said to be under development by Porsche itself, which could mean it will have a boxer layout.

Investigators blame speed in fatal Paul Walker crash

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

When the tragic news first came in that actor Paul Walker had been killed in a car crash, family, friends and fans were left searching for answers. They now have at least one key question answered, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department blaming "unsafe speed" for the fatal accident.
According to a statement released by the LACSD, "Investigators determined the cause of the fatal solo-vehicle collision was unsafe speed for the roadway conditions". The investigation into the November, 2013 crash determined that Walker's 2005 Porsche Carrera GT had been driven by his business partner and racer, Roger Rodas, at speeds between 80 and 93 miles per hour - less than the 100+ mph initially suspected, but still far too fast for the road on which they were traveling, which carried a posted limit of 45 mph.
In the investigation into the death of the Fast & Furious star and his friend, some people were quick to finger the Porsche in which they were riding as the culprit. The Carrera GT does, after all, have the reputation of being a notoriously difficult car to control. But after an exhaustive investigation, law enforcement officials in California have vindicated the car and dismissed any mechanical fault as the cause of the accident.
