This is a fun-to-drive 1987 Porsche 924S, with a removable sunroof in original silver paint. Porsche brought the 924 to the US for two years as an "S." It has a 2.5 liter engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. This car is now a classic and is being sold "as is."

Since I purchased this car in December 2009 I have driven it less than 10,000 miles. I am not a "car guy" and merely bought this because I loved the look. It has been excellent for me throughout but I have invested about $5,000 in it in the 5 years I have owned it. I am sacrificing the car to pay for a child's tuition to military school, so it's a sacrifice that is certainly worth it for me.

It looks fantastic, 27 years after hitting the streets and definitely turns heads. A true car enthusiast will immediately understand the car's value and tremendous upside. It's a Porsche Lover's ideal starter car, as it has been for me!

*I had a new catalytic converter installed in December 2012.

For the true car enthusiast I won't need to tell you the uniqueness of this car, which runs fine although I have only taken around the local streets recently due to the fact I do not need the car to commute. A few things you should know:

*The is a small leak which has been diagnosed as coming from the gear box oil casing.
*The driver door was replace in 2010 when a Hummer hit the original, and as far as I know, the rest of the car is original.
*The removable sun-roof recently stopped opening, and probably only needs a new fuse as it has worked fine when I used the car regularly.
*The a/c probably needs a shot of freon but because I have it in Boston I did not bother to have it looked at.
*Passenger-side automatic window switch does not work.

1986 Porsche 959 Prototype at Barrett-Jackson sees gavel fall at $440,000 [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

Fans of Porsche in America have longed for the chance to buy a 959 ever since the German automaker produced and sold it (well, sold it everywhere but the United States...) in the 1980s. Well, they just had their chance. The car you see above is a Porsche 959 prototype built in 1986, and only one other running prototype still exists.
The 959 prototype can't be driven on public roads, as it carries no such certification. Somehow, we doubt that matters all that much to the new buyer - this one is probably going to be sitting in a collection. When the gavel finally fell, bidding had reached $400,000, plus a 10-percent buyer's fee.
Check out our high-res image gallery above to see this prototype up close, and scroll down below to watch a video of it crossing the auction block and for its official auction description.

New details mooted about Porsche's '988' Ferrari rival

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

We could be on the verge of a big expansion at everyone's favorite rear-engined German sports car manufacturer. Porsche is allegedly preparing a four-car assault that will be led by a proper challenger to the Ferrari 458 Italia (sorry 911).
Code-named "988," the new model will reportedly feature a mid-engined layout and, get this: a flat-8. Autocar, which has the story, expects that engine to displace about 4.0 liters, while the car itself will draw styling inspiration from the 918 Spyder. 600 ponies and over 400 super-accessible pound-feet of torque should be on tap with the new mill.
Joining the 988's supposed eight-cylinder is a new family of four- and six-cylinder boxer engines that Autocar claims will have a focus on power density and fuel economy. These new mills will be available in naturally aspirated, turbocharged and hybrid forms.

Porsche 919 Hybrid revives Porsche's factory Le Mans efforts

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

After months of teasing with camouflaged testers, Porsche has finally unveiled its prototype entry for the 2014 World Endurance Championship, the 919 Hybrid. Porsche, you may recall, hasn't had campaigned a factory team at Le Mans in years, so the 919 is nothing less than their recommitment to endurance racing.
Combining a 2.0-liter V4 (yes, a V4) that revs to 9,000 rpm, the 919 produces around 500 horsepower with a pair of energy recovery systems. The first system recovers the heat energy from exhaust gasses as they pass through an electrical generator, while the second system is a bit more familiar. Using a setup similar to what is found on the production 918 Spyder, a generator on the front axle recovers kinetic energy from the brakes, which is subsequently stored in a battery system. That power can then be sent to the front wheels at the driver's command, effectively turning the 919 into an all-wheel-drive racecar.
Despite these various forms of motivation, Porsche doesn't claim to be seeking outright power supremacy, with Chairman Matthias Müller saying, "In 2014, it will not be the fastest car that wins the World Endurance Championship series and the 24 hours of Le Mans, rather it will be the car that goes the furthest with a defined amount of energy. And it is precisely this challenge that carmakers must overcome. The 919 Hybrid is our fastest mobile research laboratory and the most complex race car that Porsche has ever built."
