here is my 1981 trans am . its a real deal Y84 special edition (bandit).ws6. power windows/locks, tilt steering, rear defrost, power trunk, cruise (removed) a/c (removed) 4 wheel disc brakes . 308 gears. automatic. t top.
this car originally had a 301 turbo engine. now has a chevy 350 installed. the car has been off the road since 2004. i recently brought it back to life and have it almost road ready.brand new rear disc brake calipers. i installed a brand new stage 2 th350 auto tranny and a new b&m 2200 converter. the engine was in the car when i purchased it. it is a low miles rebuilt 350. mild cam. 202 heads . 650 holly carb. very strong engine. the body of the car is 99 % rust free. the only spots i see any rust really starting is on the drivers side rear quarter area right at the wheel flare. there is some bubbles starting to form, the under side of the trunk lid is starting to form a little rust but its not through or bad. also the same with the bottom lip of the doors in tiny spots. not rotted, just surface rust starting.
underside of the car is rust free. frame is perfect. trunk is perfect.core support is rust free. even the rear splash pan under the rear bumper is rust free. the hood does have a slight kink in it from a stiff hood hing. i was planning to change the car over to a shaker set up. i have another turbo hood that is very nice that i can include if desired.
the paint is a ten footer. it shines nice but does have touch up areas , chips and scratches. . the interior needs restored. i have a crack free dash for it.
this is a very simple driving project car that you can work on while you are also enjoying it.
the wheels on the car are vintage road racing Minilites . hard to find. the tires will need replaced due to some weather cracking. i have only driven this car a few miles as it is not registered/inspected. . drives nice but i can not say it will be ready for a long drive.

i have the right to end this listing early due to it being for sale locally. if the reserve is met the highest bidder will own the car.

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.

GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported

Thu, 13 Feb 2014

General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
