I'm selling this for a friend of mine. He bought this from the second owner of the car.
The
original buyer got the car after returning home from Viet Nam. As far as we know, the car has never left Virginia. Now here's the good part. He has a complete, rust-free front clip for the car including the bumper/grille/lights. Also has a spare rear window, rear bumper and some other odds and ends. IF the car reaches $5,000 in bidding ALL the spares WILL be included!
As you can see, it has rust issues. No surprise as old as it is. What surprises me is the tires still hold air. He bought it about ten years ago with the intent of restoring it which is why he has accumulated so many original spare parts.
The engine is a 350 with Quadrajet four barrel carb. It has headers on it, and no other exhaust. Looks like there might have been pipes coming out in front of the rear tires. The engine had not been run for at least three years before he bought it. As you can see, it is clean inside the engine. It turns easily (but not too easily!) by turning the fan. Also, to get to the engine's number, he pulled the lower radiator hose and the antifreeze inside it looks brand new. So no worries about anything having frozen and cracked.
The
interior (I have lots more pictures of the car and spare parts) is
surprisingly good. Back seat looks great. A little repair needed on
the edge of the front seats. But you'll probably want to redo them.
It has a Hurst shifter. It has a 160 mph speedometer and firebirds etched(?) on the door glass by the mirrors. All are or were options, he thinks. Frankly, if I had the money, and space to do it, I'd buy the car!
It
does take me back to my youth, I'm going on 58, so am one that would
love to get something like this that I couldn't afford back then. Plus, what I did have, I sold. Kids, what was I thinking?
So why's he selling? He's had it so long and it never was a priority. He's 30 and wants to settle down and buy a house. So money from this and other stuff he's going to sell is going towards the down payment/closing costs.
Plus, he has a newer (82?) Firebird that is a total sleeper. It doesn't look a lot better than this one, but boy does it go! He's worried that selling this one is a mistake. I pointed to the other one and said, “Fix that one up after you get settled.” He liked that idea.
So
please, help my friend out by buying his baby. It needs to be bought
back to life and enjoyed as The General intended in 1968.

GM recalling 426,000 sedans over faulty transmission shift cable
Fri, 21 Sep 2012General Motors is recalling some 426,240 sedans that may have a faulty transmission shift cable, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report this morning. The recall concerns a fault within four-speed automatic transmissions equipped on 2007-2010 Saturn Aura models, and 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 models.
The report specifies that tabs on the transmission shift cable may fracture and separate. Such a fault could cause a discrepancy between the actual position of the transmission and the apparent position of the shift lever.
GM is currently working to notify owners of the vehicles in question, and dealers will check and replace shift cables free of charge. Scroll down to read the complete NHTSA report.
GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
