This is a quality driver that just downright drives good.
Drives and stops straight. Engine and transmission (400-2/TH400) are solid with smooth operation (as of this date, no leaks/smoke/drips). A pleasant cruiser. Air conditioning is factory R12 and functions properly. Can use a charge but still blows intermittently cold/cool. (R134A retrofit is an option if you have no access to R12/Freeze12). New expensive paint (receipt and documentation provided). If you are scratching your head wondering what is different about this 73, I had both bumpers moved inward, eliminating the awkward inserts. Looks more muscle now. Recent HD coil and HD gas shocks. Handles good. Ride is pliant. Original interior has held up good but is now finally exhibiting some center cracks in the upper middle section of the dash. Please look at the interior pics to see the true condition of this solid interior. This has always been a garaged car by the previous owners (all the same family) and me. The above mentioned dash wear didn't surface until sat outside for 14 days by the paint shop, awaiting the paint to cure, before wet sanding prior to the clear coat. Even the dash fade didn't happen till then. (see pics). Will say the paint shop was amazed by the condition of the body. Straight and no rust. New windshield was installed during the paint process also. The rear window was also removed for paint detail. The paint is excellent but the window chrome did not go back on as flush as factory. (Never does). Driver appearance but not show. Also a result of the windshield replacement was that the antenna is not hooked back up. (window antenna). I know, I know, - but I am just too old to find the connectors. The ODO is showing 58k but is undocumented. When the original owner passed, the family was not able to determine the actual mileage. The original owner was a miticulous care taker. When something needed addressed, it was repaired/replaced with the heaviest duty components available. Hence the above mentioned suspension upgrades. Also attributed to the original owner - Was getting an occasional dimmed oil light at idle, so the oil pump was replaced with a high output, HD version. (runs 50-75 psi now). Used only the finest synthetic oil as it became available. And used only Amoco Premium fuel. I currently run non-ethanol 89 now with good success. And I continue to use full synthetic, classic Amsoil designed to operate with the older flat tappet engines (more zinc/phos). New tires with raised white lettered side turned inwards. Original full hubcaps go with car. Now have Pontiac poverty hubs with rings on car. You decide. It is my honest opinion that you can drive this car across the nation with unexpected problems. But of course, no warranty is expressed nor implied. And the descriptive condition of this car is also my honest opinion. Someone else's may be different. So as a general rule, base your potential bid on this being 1976, and this being a 3 year old vehicle- for condition purposes. With the "Classic" appreciable value being the whipped cream on top. Properly maintained, this car will appreciate much faster than your savings account. Right now this car, at my conservative pricing, may be one of the best classic values you can find. Official USPS Muscle Cars stamps coming to a mailbox near you
Thu, 21 Feb 2013As much as our digital lives have cut down on our trips to the post office, there are still times that sending "snail mail" is necessary. With us car lovers in mind and philately in their hearts, the good folks at the United States Postal Service will introduce a new stamp design called "Muscle Cars" starting on February 22.
Designed by artist Tom Fritz, the new collection of stamps consist of five classic muscle cars: 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1966 Pontiac GTO and 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda. In addition to just the stamps, the USPS is also commemorating the new series with plenty of collectable memorabilia. Previous car-related stamps include 50s Sporty Cars from 2005 and 50s Fins and Chrome from 2008.

General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns
Thu, 15 May 2014The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
