1969 Mercury Cougar Convefrtible Rust Free Car on 2040-cars

Norwalk, California, United States

This is one of the most rust free convertibles I have ever seen, very light surface rust in just a couple of places and could not find any cancer, wow "0" cancer in an unrestored 69 convertible. Last time I saw one was about 25 years ago, just take a look on eBay or Craigslist or other sights to see what is out there in this price range and you will find rust buckets or at least ones with allot of rust and major body damage, this car has none of that, so here we go first the numbers, Vin# 9F92M513644 and the Data Plate# 76A  P   2B    16K    52      6  X  This was checked by a deluxe Marti report (copy comes with car) Now the goods and bads on car, first the good, almost no rust of any kind and "0" cancer, body is super strait, dash pad is great no warping and no cracks or holes, the interior is very good for a 44 year old car (a good detail would help) the FMX Trans is good, the power top works fantastic no hurkey jurkey going up or down super smooth, the top is old but no cracks, rips or holes (could use a good cleaning), the 4bl carb just rebuilt, gas tank taken out cleaned (including sending unit and lines) then put back in, the head light doors work great, if you start car and run for a few minutes doors will close then you can open and close them when you turn head lights on, body just needs to be sanded down and painted. The drivers side front fender and door replaced from another car, orig one had a parking lot scrape dent on door and fender so easier to replace than repair, the used door has that data plate on it but you can order a replacement data plate for about $35.00 and I have given you the correct numbers right off the Marti Report (copy comes with car). I have many new ford NOS rubber parts and gaskets for doors and top. The drivers door panel will need to be put back on(will need new clips to hold it on). Ok now the bad, the engine needs some major work to be able to use as an every day driver, two lifters (one on each side) are very noisy. I did a compression check (wet and dry with all plugs out) and compression was about 145 to 150 on all cylinders except those two, compression was way off so engine has two collapsed lifters or a flat cam, pulled valve covers off and checked rocker arms on both lifters, rockers are very loose (bolts tight all the way down) and when you crank the motor those two push rods only go up and down about 1/4 inch so when engine is running you get allot of noise and smoke, will probably need a valve job also. I would not advise that this car be driven in current condition, but having said that I drove it a couple of miles about three weeks ago to make sure trans, steering and brakes are ok, the result was trans shifted great, steering is very good (many new front end bushings) and brakes probably need to be bled it stopped more like manual brakes than power brakes, car will also need tires, these are very old and cracked (not safe to drive on), the rim blow horn does not work and one tail light doesn't work not sure if bulbs or a bad wire or fuse. So when you get down to it repair the engine paint car and you have your self a very cheep rust free every day driver or go a little further and completely restore it and you will still be in car way less than what it is worth, now think about it, how many times do you get the chance to buy a convertible and repair it and be in the car less money than what you can sell it for. Take a good long look at this car and do some quick checking and I think you will find this a very good investment especially the way these convertibles have been going up in price. Remember if any doubts ask questions before you bid not after because if you bid and win YOU OWN IT !!!!!  This is an AS-IS car, has clean and clear Calif title in my name with current registration. I have a set of black plates that can be put back on car just call me and I can tell you how. This will be a no reserve auction after starting bid so good luck and happy bidding, any questions message me, text me or call me 562-207-8217 I will do my best to give you strait and honest answers,,,,,,  Car comes with an orig owners manual (not a reprint)

Ford announces free brake pad offer if customers stop by dealers

Mon, 04 Aug 2014

These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers.
"We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts.
Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1.

eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible

Wed, 31 Aug 2011

Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.

Ford recalling 370,000 Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Town Car models

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The Detroit News is reporting that Ford will recall some 370,000 Crown Victoria (pictured), Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car vehicles from model years 2005 through 2011, for an issue regarding the lower intermediate steering shaft. 355,000 of the vehicles in question were sold in the US, with the other 15,000 sold in Canada.
The report indicates that corrosion of the lower intermediate steering shaft could cause a "loss of steering," presumably because of a partial or complete failure of the part. The report points out the dealers will inspect and replace the offending steering component for recalled cars, and may also secure a lower steering column bearing and replace the upper intermediate steering shaft as needed. The company is unaware of any reports of the faulty part causing any accidents or injuries.
Ford helpfully lists states in which corrosion is more likely to have taken place, mostly in the Snow Belt, as you might guess. Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia are listed.
