A remarkable and rare example of a quite original 1966 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Factory Cabriolet that has been owned by the same collector car owner for the past 13 years.   It has been meticulously maintained and always garage kept and covered.  This car was purchased new in 1966 from Markham Motors LTD. Mercedes Benz in Bernardsville, N.J. and then came to Miami, FL in the early 1980's when purchased by a Miami attorney.   It was later purchased by a Miami collector in June 2000 and owned until present and currently has 77,478 original miles.   Many service receipts and full original owners manuals are present and included.

This 220SE has been fully sorted and runs excellent.   The matching numbers late model year 2.3 liter 6-cylinder Engine runs smooth and powerful and the 4-speed automatic transmission shifts perfectly.  There is no fluid leaking or burning of oil.  The engine compartment has been highly detailed and is show ready.
Most 220SE models came with a 2.2 liter 6 cylinder engine.

This Cabriolet is a true work of art.  It has been recently refinished in its original factory color Bla"ugreen or Blue Green color code DB268 to an extremely high level that is near flawless.  The paint is so beautiful, deep and mirror like it's hard to take your eyes off of it.   The body lines are laser straight.  All of the brightwork is original and shows very nicely as you can see by the photos. There is some pitting around the upper door chrome trim and the rear bumper does show some dings.  I am missing the drivers side window top chrome trim.  I removed the passenger side as well but is present and included.  All four original hubcaps are free from scratches or dings and have brand new Falken Touring tires on them.  The tan convertible top and back window are in excellent condition as well.   There is a light scuff on the windshield in the drivers side left corner well out of the drivers view.

The interior is as exceptional as the the exterior.  The original Bamboo color is the perfect contrast with the green exterior.  The front leather seats have been professionally recovered using GAHH German leather.  The original rear leather seat, door panels and convertible top boot are excellent original condition.   The carpet has been replaced and is perfect and new with custom made Calico colored coco mats.  The Zebrano wood dash is original but has been refinished in some needed areas and shows Beautifully.  The original steering wheel is in excellent condition with just a touch of lovely patina.  All of the chrome interior trim shines brightly and the headliner free from wear or discoloration.  The original Becker Europa II stereo works and sounds great with 2 high end speakers.  The manual antenna works perfectly as well.

This may be one of the nicest W111 Cabriolets for sale well south of $100K and is sure to appreciate north of it.  Please call me with any questions you may have or for many more photos of this amazing 1966 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet.

Mercedes teams with Pebble for smartwatch tech

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

Most automakers have realized by now that a good infotainment system is a must-have feature for many buyers, and have, as a result, invested increasing amounts of time and money developing these technologies. But some automakers are going above and beyond in-car entertainment and navigation technology by focusing on wearable technology as well.
Nissan has emerged as one such company, developing its own alternative to Google Glass and performance-oriented smartwatch. But Mercedes-Benz is also putting itself at the forefront of wearable tech - not by developing competing products to those designed by dedicated tech companies, but by working with them. The German automaker, as we recently reported, is developing its own app for Google Glass, and is now doing the same with smartwatches as well.
Set to be unveiled at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes has collaborated with Pebble Technologies to develop the Digital DriveStyle app. The system will display tell its wearer where the car is, whether the doors are locked and if it needs fuel. Inside the car it'll alert the driver to potential hazards coming up on the road, while making functions like re-routing the nav system, controlling the audio system or activating Siri that much easier.

Man makes record-setting drive across the US in 28 hours, 50 minutes

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Records, as the say, are made to be broken. Whether that's cramming the most hot dogs down your gullet, running a faster mile, or yes, driving across the United States, odds are that there's someone out there wants to eat more, run faster or drive harder. Speaking of that last example, the record for driving from a set location on the east coast, in particular the Red Ball Garage in Manhattan to the Portofino Hotel in Redondo Beach, CA, has been one that has fascinated gearheads since a guy named Cannonball Baker made the trek from New York to LA in 53 hours, 30 minutes, in 1933.
The competition saw its glory days when Car and Driver's Brock Yates came up with the Cannonball Baker Sea-To-Shining Sea Memorial Trophy Dash (more affectionately known as the Cannonball Run), although the record was most recently set by Alex Roy and his 32-hour, seven-minute trek behind the wheel of a BMW M5 in 2006. Now, there's a new champion, who made the trip from east to west in a scarcely imaginable 28 hours and 50 minutes, behind the wheel of a 2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG. That's works out to an average speed of 98 miles per hour over the course of 2,813.7 miles.
His name is Ed Bolian, and Jalopnik has a writeup of the epic voyage that details everything from the history of the Cannonball Run to Bolian's preparation and trouble finding co-drivers, to the trip itself. It is well worth a read.

Porsche teams with Delta airlines to woo VIP passengers

Sun, 15 Sep 2013

The next time you're waiting for a flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, see if you can spot a Porsche Cayenne or Panamera zipping between aircraft on the busy tarmac. The high-performance German vehicles aren't there practicing for an upcoming autocross; they are tasked with whisking some of the airline's most important customers between flights so they can keep their busy schedules intact.
Launched nearly two years ago, the program has proven popular with the automaker, airline and passengers as all benefit from the unique arrangement. Atlanta-based Porsche is able to showcase its cars to Delta's frequent-flying Medallion members, the airline is recognized for providing unusual perks to its high-value customers and those fortunate enough to be surprised with a quick lift are able to make connections without a stressful run through the terminal. Based on its success, the airline is rolling our similar programs in New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis this month.
And don't think Porsche is the only automaker working with an airline to entice its frequent flyers. Mercedes-Benz ran a program over the summer that offered purchasing and leasing incentives to MileagePlus Premier members of United Airlines, and the two are currently shuttling top fliers around Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport in the automaker's S-Class and GL-Class models.
