1994 Mazda Spec Miata Race Car on 2040-cars

Year:1994 Mileage:110000

1994 Spec Miata
Car was built in 2002 or 2003, has probably less than 10 events on it. Car was rolled at Pacific Raceway in 2003, sat until last year when I purchased it. I did the body repairs myself to the front end, car aligns out just fine after replacement of lower control arm on drivers side. Fenders are rough junkyard items, as is hood. Rest of body is a bit rough as well, but hey, its a *cheap* race car. I have since run it in two Lemons or Chump Car style races (16 hours), 3 track days, 2 ICSCC races (both ORP) and an ICSCC Mini-Enduro. Car is super fun! Finished 3rd in both ICSCC sprint races, and 1st in class in the ICSCC Mini-Enduro... Also won overall in one of the Chump style races, and 2nd in the other. To be class legal to run in Chump or Lemons, you would likely need to return the suspension to stock.

Bill of sale only, no title. Car has been a race car for over 10 years.

Mazdaspeed crate motor (1.8l) from what I know, only has about 12 weekends on it.
Clutch is likely not stock, but I've never had transmission out to see what it is. Does come with a new 4 puck and a new organic ACT clutch disc.
Torsen LSD, haven't checked ratio
Full Spec suspension package - does not have the fat cat/99+ top hats, so ride height is a little higher than most of the competitors... this is an easy fix though.
Sparco Pro2000 drivers seat, Sparco dished wheel w/ quick disconnect
Have passenger "planted" seat bracket and side mounts as well if you want to instruct w/ the car or carry passenger
all aluminum thick radiator (not springfield dyno, don't know what brand this one is).
New Windshield
Freshened up a bunch of things just for good measure - timing belt, cam seals
Current G-Force harness, comes with right side net as well, not installed
Car weighs in right at class minimum of 2350 with nearly empty tank, and my 200lbs in the drivers seat
Car isn't pretty, but its a pretty good and remarkably reliable racecar.
8 Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 15x7 wheels, one with a useable set of SM6's, other set has a used up set of SM7's
4 stock 14" daisy's w/ all season nothing to write home about tires for rolling the car around, or street transit.

I am selling as with my first child due in January, I don't anticipate being able to race next year.

Mazda ad showing Facebook updates while driving criticized by Senate committee [w/video]

Sat, 08 Feb 2014

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, held an all-day summit on Thursday to discuss the dangers of using modern technology while driving, during which an ad that Mazda aired during the Super Bowl was used as an example of the worrisome future towards which we're headed. While seemingly innocuous at first glance, the ad, which can be seen below, shows a brief glimpse of a driver using the Mazda Connect infotainment system in a Mazda3 to check/update his Facebook page while driving down the road.
Officials from major communications companies like Samsung, Google and Apple attended the summit, as well as representatives from automakers including General Motors and Toyota. A representative from Mazda was not present despite the company's own currently available technology being used as the poster child for the issues being discussed.
According to Automotive News, Senator Rockefeller warned the automaker and communication execs on hand that he will propose legislation to regulate the use of technology while driving if they don't work together to implement their own standards more quickly. Michael Robinson, GM's vice president of sustainability and global regulatory affairs, argued that his company has had distracted driving guidelines in place for 15 years since the advent of its OnStar system, noting that the technology in question has also helped the automaker save lives through automatic crash detection and calls to 911.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata reveal livestream is here and now

Wed, 03 Sep 2014

Let's not understate the significance and difficulty of what's been accomplished here. In this ever-connected, constantly surveilled modern auto industry, Mazda has pulled a coup - it's kept a new vehicle under wraps. Yes, we've seen hacked up and camouflaged mules and maybe a form under a sheet, but Mazda is about to reveal its next-generation MX-5 Miata, and the car - let alone its specifications - hasn't been leaked anywhere yet. Not via clandestine camera phone snapshot, not by patent drawing, not by leaked ad copy, not even by diecast model. Believe us, we've looked.
And this isn't just some humdrum crossover or workaday compact, it's the Miata, the world's most popular roadster, apple of the enthusiast community's eye and seeming center of gravity for the Japanese automaker. For those who are genuinely excited about cars - about motoring - this is an impressive feat. If anything, Mazda's radio silence regarding the fourth-generation ND Miata has only served to heighten our anticipation for a model that probably won't reach showrooms for another year.
So, what's true and what's false among all the rumors? Will the already lightweight Miata really shed hundreds of pounds? What exactly will live under hood and drive those rear wheels?

Huet Brothers working on new Miata-based retro coupe

Wed, 14 May 2014

Does the name Huet ring a bell? The Dutch brothers started out doing classic car tours in Europe before they started designed and building their own retro sports cars. The first was called the Huet Brothers Special. It was based on an old Triumph TR6 and surfaced back in 2009. But a few years later they started showing designs for a new coupe that called for a straight-six engine under a long bonnet with a fastback roofline, and started taking orders. Over the past two and a half years we didn't see anything materialize out of the Huet Brothers' plans, but word out of the Netherlands has it that the design is back on the table.
According to the Autovisie section of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Tino and Paul Huet were planning on building their coupe on the base of the MX-5 Miata. But now that Mazda is preparing to launch an all-new model, the Huets have decided to wait until next year and build their dream car on the new Skyactiv roadster chassis.
Rather than trying to shoehorn in a bigger engine (or the subsequent diesel model that was set to follow), the Huets are reportedly prepared to stick with Mazda's four-pot, offering it in stock form and various states of upgraded tune.
