I bought this from the original owner, who had the car from late 1989 until February 2012, which is when I bought it. Since I have owned it, I have always garage kept the car. It has been my weekend/sunny day only car, so it literally hasn't seen rain in at least 2.5 years. The car runs and drives great. Engine runs well and doesn't skip a beat, no check engine light. The original owner said the clutch was replaced at around 110k miles, but I don't have the receipt to show. However, I don't doubt it, as the clutch is great. Transmission shifts very smooth, as it should.

The top is in outstanding condition. It's not original. I'm not sure how old it is, but it's very solid and looks great. The interior is also in great shape. Drivers seat isn't ripped, dash is solid. Even the radio surround bezel is in one piece, I replaced it myself when I bought the car.

I bought the car with a broken rear end. I replaced it with an open rear. I also changed the valve cover gasket, plugs and wires. I purchased a full set of cooling/heater hoses from Mazda, but have never installed them. The car does not leak any coolant at all, but I was going to change them as preventative maintenance since I don't know how old they are. Timing belt is in good shape, replaced by previous owner.

As for "negatives" on the car...the rear shocks are done. They need to be replaced. The car was in a hailstorm at some point, so the trunk and hood have hail dings. I don't care all that much, but it is what it is. It has normal Miata rocker rust starting on the drivers side. Passenger is much better. I've seen a lot worse on Miata, but it's there.

I also have the original hard top that was purchased with the car by the original owner. It needs a repaint, but is in otherwise good shape. It is not included in the $2500 price. If you want it too, the price is $3100. I WILL NOT SELL IT SEPARATE FIRST, IF THE BUYER DOESN'T WANT IT THEN I'LL SELL IT AFTER THE CAR SELLS.

The only reason I'm selling this car is I'm moving next weekend. I love the car, but I don't want to deal with shipping, etc...as I've got enough to deal with already.  The car must be picked up by Saturday June 29th.

Tow truck driver hilariously bad at righting a flipped Mazda

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

Can rolling your car get any worse? The correct answer is yes, as this poor soul found out when he rolled his Mazda3 onto its side. Calling a tow truck might be a logical, post-rollover move, but in this case, it kind of made the situation worse.
We don't want to give away just what happened, so you'll need to scroll down and watch the video. A fair warning, though, it does contain a moment of colorful language towards the end, so watching it at work, with the volume up, might not be wise. Have a look below for the full video.

Mazda goes on engineer hiring binge as recovery picks up speed

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

Japan's larger automakers - companies like Toyota, Honda and Nissan - have tremendous engineering talent at their disposal. That's largely because, selling as many cars as they do, they've got more revenues to tap into. Logic might dictate, then, that smaller automakers like Mazda, which no longer has the deep pockets afforded to it by its former partnership with Ford, might have less of a budget and workforce for engineering. But Mazda has been raking in record profits, and it plans on cashing those revenues in by hiring a substantial new pool of engineers.
According to Automotive News, Mazda is preparing to hire as many as 185 new engineers over the next two years - almost four times as many as the 50 engineers it previously targeted. Many of those engineers will be put to work developing the second-generation, Skyactiv 2 technologies that are on the drawing board while the first round of Skyactiv features are still being rolled out.
The boost in recruitment is enabled by a positive fiscal year that ended last March, marking the first profits Mazda had logged in four years. Sources anticipate that the fiscal year culminating at the end of this month will mark the company's most profitable yet, netting over a billion dollars to eclipse the fiscal year that ended in 2008 when it recorded $872.5 million in profits.

Mazda CX-3 almost ready for LA Show

Mon, 17 Nov 2014

The Mazda CX-3 is just days away from its unveiling at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, but elsewhere in the world, the Japanese brand still has the compact crossover disguised for testing. These spy shots aren't too camouflaged though, and when combined with the previous teaser image, they give a pretty clear idea what the new model will look like.
The grille here is well covered, but the photo from the front reveals the similarities to the design sketch. The rear shows a similar horizontally oriented design as the Mazda2, which the CUV is based on. However, the dipping sides around the B-pillar from the teaser don't appear to be on this tester. Even with all the swirls, the vehicle looks fairly attractive.
Mazda is doing a fantastic job of keeping mechanical details about the CX-3 a secret. It's not yet known whether the model is front-wheel-drive only or if all-wheel drive is also an option. The crossover also likely shares the Mazda2's engine, which isn't revealed for North America, yet. The diminutive CUV will compete with a huge crop of new classmates, including the Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade, Chevrolet Trax and Honda HR-V. Check out the gallery for the latest glimpses of this Japanese CUV just days ahead of its full debut.
