They don't get any better.  The new Elise looks terrible IMO.  It doesn't even look like a Lotus Elise.  This is the classic, race inspired, corner-taking beast of a car.  Yes, it is loud and hard to get in and out of, but that's the point.  The car is not made for a latte in one hand and a cell phone in the other, it is meant to drive.  Put your cell phone down and get your hands on the wheel!  There is nothing like a LOTUS and this is the best looking LOTUS I have seen in years.  I've owned 3 myself, I just like them, drive them, take care of them, then sell them.  For me, there is no other sports car - and I've owned Corvettes and 911's.  No comparison.

CAR has been in NEVADA and GA for almost all its life.  No snow, no sand, no rust!

RUST:  This car cannot rust.  Why?  It is aluminum underneath, so it will oxidize if anything.  Oxidized aluminum can actually be stronger than its original state.  Science aside, these cars are fantastic for investing because they DO NOT RUST and DO NOT DENT.  They scratch, but this in injection molded fiberglass surrounding an aluminum bathtub basically.  You are sitting inches above the ground, so if you hear a sound, you might be able to tell what year that penny was - that is normal.  The entire car is covered underneath by a huge sheet of aluminum, so expect to hear a few noises from gravel and stones.

2 AIRBAGS:  Driver and Passenger, stock.

SPECIFICS:
2005 Lotus Elise, Saffron (Yellow to non Lotus owners) with extremely well-done Black Racing Stripes.  Stripes are in perfect shape.  That perfect shape is all around, no dings or nicks to speak of, no damage, never in an accident.  One or two of the rims might have a minor scratch or two, but nothing you won't see in the pictures and nothing out of the ordinary for an 8 year old car.

This is an EXTREME HEAD TURNER!  WARNING!  If you don't like people taking cell phone photos or trying to race up to you car on the highway to get a shot of you and your car, this is certainly not for you.  This car gets more looks than any Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche or other exotic I've been in, because there are so few of these.  Roughly 12,000 in existence or less.  Nobody knows what it this car is, but everyone wants to either ride in it, take a picture with it, or talk to you about it.

THE BEST PART:  The people who ask the most questions are WOMEN.  Not men.  Swear on my life that this car will draw women to you.  I never thought there was such a thing as a "chick-magnet" car, but this one appears to be the one that draws them in like bees to honey.  Hey maybe it is the driver?  Is he famous?  Ah, you never know on Ebay.

PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BEFORE ASKING ANY QUESTIONS!

VIN NUMBER is ACCURATE:  Some exotics do not pull up initially, but use CarFax, it is accurate - no accidents or incidents - qualifies fully for their guarantee

4 Cylinders, 190 hp - flat stock, not modified in any way

AIR CONDITIONING:  SUPER COLD and WORKING PERFECTLY.  I live in GA, enough said.  You cannot drive a hard top in GA in the Summer without A/C, unless you want to die.  Sure, you can roll down the windows, but your face will melt.  Turn on the A/C and enjoy the ride.

HEAT:  God forbid you need this, the car actually has an awesome heater.  It puts out serious heat.  Small space to heat up, but you will be surprised how well Lotus took care of the cold weather.

BRAKES:  These work fine.  I will say from time to time these are known to make noise on the rotors.  I took the car to the dealer and they said you just need to press hard on the brakes to remove the dust - they were right.  Sediment can get on the rotors and it needs to come off or they will make some noise.  It brakes flawlessly and stops on a dime, like all Lotuses do.

2 KEYS!  How many used sports cars have 2 keys.  I will say that the second set needs to be programmed or have its battery replaced, so really I just use one set.  That's often best left for the dealer to do, a pain in the butt to sync the keys and alarm. Have them do it for free when you get your oil changed.  You are not taking this car to Jiffy Lube, that's for sure.

Exhaust:  Pure stock.

0-60 in about 5 seconds flat.  I have timed it at 5.5 personally, Lotus says 4.9-5.1.  Either way, very, very fast!

GAS MILEAGE IS PHENOMENAL!  27-29 miles per gallon!  HWY, 20-22 miles per gallon!  CITY - easy on wallet

INSURANCE:  About $90 a month if you use a quality insurer with very low deductibles ( I have $250 comp and $500 collision - you can bump that way up if you want, but people like to "play" with exotics, so be mindful of that) and you have a decent driving record.

Yes, this car has a bad ass DVD player.  This 7"s pop-up screen (WITH VERY GOOD and SIMPLE GPS too!) will play while you are driving.  It has integrated phone, Ipod, GPS and radio built in.  Hell, a 2012 Mercedes doesn't have that.  Watch people do a triple-take when they pull up to look inside your car and your favorite DVD is playing.  It looks like the TV is on.  Folds up and down in seconds.

Rare, pump up bladder lumbar support makes this Lotus a very rare breed indeed.  Few of these cars have this feature and it does make the seats more bareable.  The car rides hard, but that's why you buy one.  It is less forgiving than a Corvette if that gives you an idea.  It makes a Corvette feel like a Cadillac.

Tires are 80-85% all around.  NEXEN and YOKOHAMA.  Different fronts and different rear, as prescribed by Lotus.  I have had ADVAN AD08's on my Lotus before, honestly, I think people pay far too much for a track tire on the street.

Hard Top included, no soft top.  Ever see a real race car with a convertible top?  Ever see a NASCAR race with an open top.  I wouldn't drive this car with a piece of cloth as my savior.  The soft top was not with the car when I bought it, but I hate them anyway.  Think about all the great sports cars.  Do they come in convertible as their main issue?  No.  Another thing, as a convertible this car is very hot and you cannot take the hard top with you.  If you live in a SUNNY area, you will appreciate the super cold A/C.  Thieves can cut into a softtop and rob you without setting off any alarms.  TRUE.  No car is burglar proof, but this alarm is LOUD!

Has original tool kit, but no brochure.  Sorry.

There is a net between the seats but it is impossible to get at unless you get out of the seat.  Minimal storage.  Trunk fits 2-3 bags of groceries, tops.  It will fit a GUN RANGE pistol bag fully loaded - or at least I have heard that it will. : )

Lined, authentic, silver colored Lotus Car Cover ($250 value - yes, they are that much) included.

Fog Lamps not only work but really help at night.  Fog lights are a big option on this car.

ENGINE COVER?  Hey, where is the black plastic Lotus engine cover?  Well, it is brand new and on the car.  I took off the old one because it looked crappy.  Not a fan of crappy looking things.  So, this has a $75.00 (yes, Lotus plastic is not cheap) brand new engine cover on it now.  You will not see the spark plugs as shown.  I just wanted to give full disclosure on how it looks.

STAR SHIELD - FRONT and BACK!  $1,295.00 option!  Star Shield in excellent condition.  This is what protects a car that sits literally 3.5" off the ground, your roof is just above your belt if you are 6' tall.  You don't see it, but a Lotus without a Star Shield is a dinged up Lotus.  DEMAND it if you don't buy this car from others.  A MUST!  Rocks and debris hit this car all the time due to the height.

Lotus Evora GX to race in U.S. Grand-Am series

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

The Lotus Evora has taken many forms as a race car over the past few years, starting in 2009 with the Type 124 Endurance Racer built for the FIA GT. Since then, Lotus has developed a GT4 Cup version designed for a one-make series, the Evora GTE that currently competes in the GT class of the ALMS and the recently introduced Evora GTC.
Now, Lotus has released the Evora GX, a variation of the GTC tweaked to specifically meet the requirements of Grand-Am's new GX class that will launch at the start of the 2013 race season. While the two cars are very similar, using the same lightweight carbon fiber and plexiglass bodywork, the GX version gets a thicker U.S.-spec roll cage, a revised front splitter and bumper, a standard Grand-Am rear wing, yellow headlights and a new fuel filler system. ABS and traction control have also been removed per Grand-Am regulations.
Pricing for the Evora GX is listed at $335,000 with each one built to order, and one customer has already taken the plunge. McMahon Raceworks has placed an order and should have the car on the starting grid at the first race next year.

Lotus team out of Le Mans, full driver list published

Tue, 20 May 2014

We can scratch off one more car from the list for the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Lotus T129 LMP1 car has been dropped from the entry list of the 82nd running of the historic race, with organizers citing "a lack of preparation" as the reason. On a more positive note, the list of 168 drivers in 56 vehicles has been officially published for the June 14 race.
Like the Lotus team currently in Formula One, the Lotus T129 uses the iconic British brand's name and colors but is actually built by a separate company. It previously ran a Lola chassis in the LMP2-class (pictured above). The Le Mans organizers claim the car will likely be on display during the 24-hour race, but it won't make it's competition debut until the World Endurance Championship round at the Circuit of the Americas in September. The T129 is being replaced by an Oreca 03 chassis with Nissan power in the LMP2 class, entered by Millennium Racing.
The Lotus' retirement came as the teams had to send in the names of the three drivers nominated to race each car. This year there are racers from 26 countries with the most coming from France (39), Britain (29), the US (17) and Italy (15). The latest tally of entries breaks down to 9 LMP1s, 19 LMP2s, 9 LM GTE Pros, 18 LM GTE Ams and the Nissan ZEOD RC as the experimental Garage 56 entry.

eBay Find of the Day: 2000 Lotus 340R, claimed only street-legal example in US

Wed, 03 Sep 2014

These days most of the news out of Lotus comes when it releases a lighter or faster version of the Elise, Exige or Evora. However, the stripped-out, Elise-based 340R might already show the logical conclusion of that concept, despite coming out in 2000. Now, one of the 340 made is up for auction on eBay Motors, and the seller in Fort Lauderdale, FL, claims that it's the only street-legal example available in the US.
Lotus founder Colin Chapman always had an obsession with making his vehicles as light as possible, and the 340R adhered to that adage about as closely as a street car could in 2000. These minimalist roadsters eschewed opening doors, windows and a roof in the pursuit of cutting the fat off the brand's hardly portly Elise. The company's engineers also trimmed away the fenders to give their creation a semi-open wheel design that looked as wild when new as today. For the interior, they installed two racing buckets, and the most of the rest was left in bare metal, including the pedals. All of the changes reportedly brought the 340R down to around 1,545 pounds.
Power comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 340R is available with 177 horsepower or a tuned 187-hp version from that mill, but the seller doesn't specify which one this is. It's still a pretty fresh car, though, with just 3,577 miles claimed on the odometer.
