This is a 1963 Willys CJ 5.  It also may be a Military Jeep M38-A1.  It has the 24 volt battery cover on the cowl but other items like the headlight bezels and the glove box may mean it was not Military.  At any rate it does have a strong running 4-134 F Head Motor.  It has the Warn overdrive and  a two speed Dana 18 transfer case.  The Jeep has been converted to 12 volt.  The engine starts and the Jeep is drivable except for the brakes.  The brakes have lost all pressure and I believe it has a bad wheel cylinder on the front passenger side.  I expect that it would be a easy repair.  I have not taken the wheel off to check.  I purchased the Jeep to restore it but I may not ever get to it.  In the photos you can see that the air cleaner is missing.  I have purchased an old original oil bath for it off e-bay but it has not arrived yet.  The floor looks to have been replaced a some point.  There is some rust on each side and a wrinkled area behind the passenger front fender and on the drivers right fender.  The jeep is basically all there and is restorable.  I do not think it would take much to make it road worthy.  I drove it up and down the street today and checked all the gears and transfer case and all seemed ok.  Even the overdrive works.  The turn signals work and the head lights.  There is only one motor for the wipers on the drivers side and it works.  It comes with the supports for the soft top.  The top that was on it when I got it was trashed.  I do have some soft doors that go with it that are not bad.  I have tried to take some good photos but if you have any questions let me know. Please arrange for your own shipping.  801-259-1194  Thanks Tom

Chrysler recalling 644k more Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs over brakes

Wed, 02 Apr 2014

Early last month, we reported on Chrysler issuing a preemptive, proactive recall for about 25,000 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The issue revolved around a brake system that wasn't causing any actual problems, but delivered an unsatisfactory brake feel, so Auburn Hills called in a good 25,000 of SUVs around the world, including 18,700 in the United States.
Now Chrysler, having apparently determined that the brake problem on its sport utes is actually much bigger than it initially realized, has drastically broadened the scope of the recall. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for precisely 655,354 examples of the Grand Cherokee and Durango, covering the 2011 through 2014 model years. In addition, Chrysler is recalling 42,380 units in Canada, 21,376 in Mexico and 159,685 overseas.
The problem which Chrysler found revolves around the brake booster, whose center shell has been found to be subject to corrosion, allowing water to get into the brake system. That water in turn could freeze, preventing the brakes from working as well as expected.

Jeep Liberty under investigation for door fires

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

The Jeep Liberty has already had plenty of attention for possible fires thanks to the first-gen model's fuel tank, but now the midsize Jeep is under the microscope of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for another fire-related concern. NHTSA has opened an investigation for the 2012 Liberty after receiving two reports of electrical fires in the driver's door.
According to the investigation summary, around 80,000 vehicles could potentially be affected by this problem. In both reported fires, the drivers noticed smoke and then flames from the master power window switch, and they had to pull to a stop and exit through the passenger side of the SUV. According to Autoguide, there was one injury to a motorist who suffered burned fingers while trying to open the driver's door.
Interestingly, the Dodge Nitro is not yet involved in this investigation, even though it was still around for the 2012 model year; the Nitro ended production in 2011 about a year before the final Liberty rolled off the line for the 2013 model year. Scroll down for the official NHTSA investigation summary.

Jeep's Super 'Ute Is Fun Thrown In The Face Of Conventional Wisdom
Let's talk asses for a moment. What do they have to do with the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, you ask?
Well, we're here to tell you that this SRT can haul some. Lots of them, as a matter of fact: Jeep has increased the towing capacity of its most powerful SUV to 7,200 pounds. Assuming the average donkey weighs about 400 pounds, the Grand Cherokee SRT can haul ass to the tune of 18 burros, give or take a covered trailer or so, which is significantly more than it could in previous years. In 2013, the machine could manage 5,000 pounds, while the first generation was rated at just 3,500. The increase is mostly attributable to a new eight-speed automatic transmission and beefier rear axle, and it's a welcome update for those who'd like to use their SUV as, well, an SUV with an emphasis on utility.
