This car is a 1970 Jaguar E-Type or XKE Roadster...door plate shows manufactured date of 1-'70. I believe that this is considered a Series 2. A friend of mine found this car in an old garage, contacted the then owner and purchased the vehicle and then sold it to me. I will give a Bill of Sale. I have cranked this car from it's own gas tank and the motor runs good. I have eased it across my yard but have not put it on the road as the brakes need to be bled. To the best of my knowledge, this is a running E-Type, mechanically sound. It is, however, a total cosmetic restoration. It will need rocker panels, as my friend cut out a slot to install a steel plate to reinforce the old floor pans. Pics will show additional body work required. The motor tube support frame is in very good condition...very solid...

I have the following additional comments to offer: I have the seats and, while the frames will need to be refurbished, the foam and hides will have to be replaced. I have the spare tire on it's original wire rim. I have the convertible top frame which will also need refurbishing. No soft top. I have the knock off tool and lead hammer, new rubber moulding between bumper and car and new rubber moulding around trunk lid..these were ordered recently from Moss. Tail lights have been removed but I have the lights. The steering wheel will likely need to be replaced..see pics...as the wood rim is gone. Otherwise, I believe that the pics show all else. I had planned to begin restoration, but have other priorities.

Mileage is: 85,054....Car No. is: 1R12513....Engine No. is: 7R10503..cash or Certified Bank Check acceptable. Bank Check subject to seller's bank's clearance policy.

For someone who wishes to do the cosmetics for a sound mechanical E-Type, this is your project. I welcome all questions. Thank you for bidding!

Say goodbye to Jaguar's vestigial oval grille

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

Jaguar has been on a campaign to replace any and all retro cues with modern ones. Just look at the current XJ and the one it replaced, or the XF and the S-Type that came before it and you'll know what we mean. The one remnant is the XK and its oval grille, in and of itself a throwback to Jags of old (which started to look more like a certain Star Wars alien in above-pictured XKR-S form). But don't expect it to hang around.
Newer Jaguars have been ditching the oval aperture for a more squared-off one, and the next XK will have to fall in line. But don't expect that to be the only change in store for the next-generation Jaguar coupe and convertible.
With the new F-Type now holding the more enthusiast-oriented ground, the next XK is expected to grow bigger, softer and more luxurious. That will likely mean a more commodious back seat as well, though that shouldn't be hard to do considering the lack of space in the back of the current model...

Exploring Romania's storied Transfagarasan Highway in a Jaguar F-Type V8 S

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

Top Gear is, in some ways, a victim of its own success. When it declares a road the best in the world, like it did with Romania's Transfagarasan Highway during its 14th season, you can't blame people for showing up and wanting to check it out. Of course, then the road becomes clogged with tourists and is less fun to drive.
But is it possible that there is an even better driving road in Romania? One that is higher, smoother and undiscovered by tourists - at least not yet? Henry Catchpole from Evo thinks that he may have found it while driving a Jaguar F-Type V8 S that makes a sound that evokes a World War II British fighter plane.
Scroll down to take a brief trip to Romania and bask in the wonderful roar of this topless Jaguar.

Seven-figure cars highlight day one of RM's Monterey auction

Sat, 17 Aug 2013

RM Auctions is one of several houses holding auctions during the Monterey weekend, and Friday night's festivities got quite pricey. Seven-figure vehicles were not at all uncommon during the first day of the two-day event, with the 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider, seen above, crossing the block for $9,075,000.
Other big earners included a pair of rare Ferraris, a 1950 166 MM Barchetta and a 1955 750 Monza Spider, which took $3,080,000 and $4,070,000, respectively. Outside of the red Italians, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special captured $7,480,000 while a stunning, color-appropriate 1955 Jaguar D-Type took $3,850,000. We've got images of these vehicles, and a few other stunning examples of last night's auction, in the gallery above.
Thought it seems impossible, tonight's auction is expected to see even more high-dollar action. The winner of the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours, a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Torpedo Roadster is expected to command over $10 million. Also crossing the block will be a car we reported on a few weeks back - a supremely rare 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder. One of only 10 in the world, it's expected to take anywhere from $14 to $17 million when it hits the stage tonight.
