1973 Jaguar E-type Series Iii 2+2 - Project Car For Restoration. on 2040-cars

Year:1973 Mileage:76356
Location:

Schenectady, New York, United States

Schenectady, New York, United States

I purchased this car a few years ago to restore and drive. Unfortunately it is a project that I will probably never get to. The car is very complete and runs strong. I was driving it up and down the driveway and in front of the house, but a few months ago, the brake pedal just went to the floor. I am not sure what is wrong with the brake system, but it needs complete rebuild.
The tires are Pirelli and have good tread. The wire wheels are all intact including the spare. There are some minor rust spots on the wheels. They do need to be cleaned and polished.
The A/C still blows very cold air and all gauges and controls seem to function.
It needs a new battery, but will start with a jump.
There are numerous surface rust spots on the body which I tried to show in the photos.
A large tree branch fell on the bonnet a year ago and dented it. A good body repair person would have no trouble repairing that.
As far as I can tell, there is no major corrosion anywhere on the body.
The interior is all original in biscuit color. There are no tears in the leather seats. The dash will need to be recovered. The rear boot floor is made out of plywood and covered with vinyl. The plywood is delaminated and will have to be replaced. The vinyl is probably salvageable. The headliner is sagging inside the car.

The carburetors were rebuilt by me a couple of years ago and at that time a new Crane "Fireball" Ignition system was installed. The SU Fuel Pump was rebuilt last year.

I replaced the rear mufflers at that time, but now it needs the fronts and/or the exhaust pipes replaced as the car is quite loud.

If you're looking for a car to totally restore to Concours condition, this would be an excellent starting point. Or, if you are looking for one which would require just a bit of work to again make roadworthy, this would also be a good candidate. It is a good straight, honest car with a very fair reserve price.
I have described this vehicle as honestly as I can. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

This car will not be able to be driven due to the lack of brakes, but I encourage you to see this car in person- by appointment only.

Jaguar XF gets performance-look R-Sport trim

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

If you're looking for all the style of a sports sedan but without the added expense of springing for a full-on performance model (and keeping it fed with fuel and fresh tires), most European automakers will gladly hook you up with an all-show, no-go package. BMW has its M-Sport aero kits, Audi its S-Line, and Mercedes its AMG Sport packs. And now Jaguar is getting in on the action with the launch of the new R-Sport line.
Set to be introduced on the XF at the Geneva Motor Show, the R-Sport trim at least some of the flash of the XFR or XFR-S but with a more economical engine and a relatively accessible price of entry. (This is, after all, still a Jag.) The XF R-Sport is distinguished by a sportier front bumper, side sills, rear spoiler, 17-inch wheels and unique badging to set it apart from any "ordinary" Jaguar XF. The interior is upgraded as well, and there's an optional black styling pack to take things even further.
Jaguar is offering the XF R-Sport in either sedan or wagon form with the 2.2-liter turbodiesel producing 161 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, fitted with a spot-start system to make it a far more frugal option than the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in the real deal. Although this version won't be coming to US as you see it here, Jaguar tells Autoblog it's always possible it'll produce a similar aesthetic treatment for the North American market - just don't count on such models arriving under diesel motivation. We'll take a closer look at them in Geneva next week, but for now, you can check out the gallery and press release below for an idea of what to expect.

Tata to get Jaguar and Land Rover tech, platforms too?

Tue, 22 Jul 2014

Since buying Jaguar Land Rover, Indian automaker Tata has generally left its luxury arm's platforms and technology alone. However, those days might be gone. The two of them are gradually growing closer with coordinated development and rumors of shared platforms. And it looks like all of that work and money is finally going to pay off with an actual vehicle in the near future.
According to Australian website Drive, Tata wants to make its cars more attractive to buyers outside of India, and to do that the company knows it must improve quality. The Indian company is being careful, though, because it doesn't want to dilute the Jaguar or Land Rover brands with cheap models. "You're going to see in the future a lot of sharing of technologies and platforms over time, but you won't see a JLR with a Tata badge on it," said Darren Bowler, managing director of Tata's Australian distributor, to Drive.
According to Bowler, these future vehicles are already on the way. Tata and JLR have a global platform in the works for 2017 that both companies could use for cars or crossovers. He also hinted that Jaguar's new Ingenium engines could be shared among the brands in the future, too.

Playmate of the Year Raquel Pomplun gets a Jaguar F-Type

Sun, 12 May 2013

The Jaguar F-Type is slinking its way into vastly divergent corners of the celebrity world. Lana del Rey is its songstress, Englishman-playing-American-terrorist Damien Lewis lead its cinematic debut in Desire, San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick gets the athletic endorsement, and now it's just been driven behind the "Adults Only" doors at the Playboy Mansion: Raquel Pomplun was gifted a year's use of an F-Type for being named 2013 Playmate of the Year.
There's a video below of Pomplun and her F-Type getting 'camera ready,' and a press release below that in case you want to, you know, "read the article."
