1971 Ford Torino 500, blue, 302, automatic, A/C, Rod and Custom front disk brake conversion, new suspension front and rear, new interior, new exhaust, new gas tank and sending unit, aluminum intake and 4bbl carb. Just home from the best paint shop in Arkansas!!
I bought the car in 2010 from the original owner. He parked the car in 1995. Field mice made a home in this car for a long time, so I gutted the interior, put in new floor pans, new carpet, new front seat bottom upholstery, and replaced any damaged wiring. The cowl must have been home base, because the pee ate it up after the drains got clogged with leaves and dirt. I fiberglassed it and then sealed the cowl. The fuse block has some corrosion, but all works fine.
Car was not rusty on the exterior, as It's been an Arkansas car since '71, but the field mice were unkind to the interior. All that has been fixed.
Everything works as it should except the speedometer doesn't read. The dash lights go in and out, so I suspect the fuse holding prongs need attention. The Summit all in one gauge has everything you need anyway, including temp, oil pressure, volts and RPM's. I just had the air conditioning system COMPLETELY replaced with all new components - $1500 and a one year warranty! I went through the car front to back and top to bottom replacing everything to make it a safe, reliable car. I replaced plug wires, rotor, alternator, belts, transmission fluid, brake lines, master cylinder, etc.
Car was repainted in May 2013 and is arrow straight, with just a few imperfections. Runs perfect. The original, vin matching 302 has chrome valve covers now and a chrome air cleaner lid. The scoop is an original 1969 Mustang Mach 1 scoop, with turn signals. Wheels are original Magnum 500's, restored.

Ford E-Series chassis cabs and cutaways to survive mass Transit onslaught
Fri, 18 Apr 2014In March 2013, Ford announced we'd be getting chassis cab and cutaway versions of the Transit. Since incoming Transit vans will soon be rolling over the grave of the E-Series van, it was assumed that all E-Series models would go six feet under as well. According to a report from PickupTrucks.com, however, that's not the case, the report claiming that the highly modifiable E-350 and E-450 chassis cab and cutaway versions will continue being produced in Avon Lake, Ohio "at least until 2020."
Being decades old, the be-cabbed E-Series platform has found its way under an army of heavy-duty shuttle buses, work truck and ambulances. Ford spokeswoman Jessica Enoch verified the production horizon, telling Autoblog that the particular E-Series configuration "are a higher GVWR than the Transit chassis cab and cutaway (available this summer), which is more Class 2 and a new segment for us." So there you have it.
New Ford Police Interceptor tech protects cops' backsides
Mon, 22 Jul 2013It was only a matter of time before law enforcement agencies would realize the potential of driver-assist technology for use in their Ford Police Interceptors, and, now that they have, those back-up cameras and radar systems won't be used just for parking, but for security, as well.
The surveillance mode system works when the camera or radar detects movement from behind the vehicle, and if it does when it's activated, an alarm will alert the officer inside the car, the driver's side window will roll up and the doors will lock, protecting the officer from an unwanted intrusion. The officer, of course, has the option to turn surveillance mode off, mainly in urban areas where pedestrians would constantly set the alarm off, and it can only be activated when the police car is in park.
Randy Freiburger, Ford's police and ambulance fleet supervisor, came up with the patent-pending idea when researching the needs of police officers and riding along with them, during which time he realized officers would be safer with an extra set of eyes watching the area behind their cars, especially at night or when they're completing paperwork, using the in-car computer or handling a radar gun. "Unfortunately, there are people with bad intentions who sneak up on police officers," he says.
Ex-GM VP LaNeve takes over Lincoln ad agency
Wed, 10 Apr 2013Those of you that caught yesterday's op-ed about Lincoln will have heard already, but Mark LaNeve has taken the helm at Team Detroit. Once the North American vice president of sales, service and marketing for General Motors, LaNeve will now head up the agency that handles all of Ford advertising. LaNeve will also run the account for Lincoln. While at GM from 2001 to 2009, the exec oversaw ad campaigns like Cadillac's Breakthrough and sales initiatives like "Employee Pricing for Everyone."
He left in 2009 to join Allstate as chief marketing officer, oversaw the creation of the Mayhem ad spots and was moved into the role of VP of agency operations overseeing Allstate's 10,000 agents. He resigned from the insurer in February 2012 for personal reasons and joined Team Detroit in August 2012 as chief operating officer, in charge of satellite offices in New York and internationally. He replaces ex-CEO Cameron McNaughton, and will continue to hold the title of COO.
Lincoln is trying to get its 2013 back to rights after putting big dollar commercials for the 2013 MKZ on television then having production glitches preventing cars from getting to dealerships. With rumors of a relaunch in the works, it's no surprise LaNeve has been given the reins - and from here it looks like the brand is desperate for the kind of magic he's proved he can marshal. Perhaps he can start by calling a mulligan on the renaming exercise that gave us the hoary "Lincoln Motor Company" and go back to oh, say, "Lincoln." Then he can ask the product folks to get to work on the MKC concept...
