Mean 1950 Ford F-1 Rat Road With 383/727 Inside on 2040-cars
Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, United States
Up for sale is my 1950 Ford F-1 Rat Rod, which I bought 18 months ago on Ebay out of Florida. The truck is a true rat rod, with a rusted body and a solid, strong running engine. I am selling because I am relocating to China in 2014, and this will sit in a garage otherwise.
This is a true "what's under the hood" style truck, with a Mopar 383 (Block Forge #24681308, 10/21/66) and BB727 transmission out of a 1968 charger. The transmission is modified with a manual valve body (which means you need to shift 1-2-3 for those that don't know), and it shifts very well. This truck is also modified with power steering, converted 12V electric, edelbrock 600 carb, and a new beer keg gas tank bolted to the bed. Also has a cool flame thrower kit bolted to the exhaust, which is fun to play with at ice cream parlors. Since picking this up in the summer of 2012, I have had the power steering redone (the joints locked), the radiator replaced (old one leaked), the electric wiring redone (Frankenstein), the suspension tightened with new king pins, and the brakes overhauled. This truck starts up on the first try every time, and I have been driving it a few times a week (when home) to keep the fluids fresh. Again - this is not a show car, nor could it ever be (at least not for a reasonable cost) - the body panels are rusted, the wrong engine is in it, and... well there's a lot to list. There is a true rat rod in every sense of the word, and should be driven as such. This truck does come with a second box of parts, an additional (rust free) cab if you want to make the switch, and some wooden running boards I was going to install this winter. Truck is also listed locally so I reserve the right to cancel the auction if it sells. Thanks! |

Ford idling Michigan Assembly Plant to trim Focus, C-Max supply
Tue, 22 Oct 2013Ford will be putting the brakes on production at its Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, MI, idling production during the weeks of October 28 and December 16. Ford is citing the first drop in US sales in 27 months, a 4.2-percent dip in September, as the impetus for trimming their supplies, according to Automotive News.
Ford's deft management of its supplies has been part of its success over the years, and seeing supplies of Focus and C-Max, the two vehicles built at MAP, rise from 58 and 108 days, respectively, to 71 and 122 days over the span of a month was apparently all that was need to justify the trimming. As AN points out, the rule of thumb for many automakers is to maintain a 60-day supply of vehicles.
"Ford has been focused on keeping their pricing in check. Their operating margin is in double digits. Nobody else is there and they're obviously very proud of that," Alan Baum, an auto analyst with Baum & Associates told AN. Keeping the supply chain operating smoothly and not increasing supplies too much is crucial to that healthy profit margin. After all, a large supply lowers prices ,which, in turn, cuts profit. So while this news might not be great for employees at MAP, who now have an extra two weeks of vacation time, it's far from a sign of problems in Dearborn. Quite the opposite, actually.
Ford S-Max Concept previews new look, technology for Euro seven-seater
Wed, 28 Aug 2013Ford unveiled today the S-Max Concept, which comes with a new, sleek look and loaded with innovative technology, such as a heart-rate monitoring seat. But if you're heart is set on a minivan sports activity vehicle (SAV) and you live in the States, don't wait for this one - it's a Europe-only product, and we don't expect that to change when the next-gen S-Max is released.
The styling follows Ford's global design language, looking a bit like an overgrown Focus hatchback with the company's signature grille, wraparound headlamps, steeply raked windshield and curved roof line. Ford also implemented details to make the S-Max look longer and faster, such as a feature line on each side of the vehicle and muscular-looking fenders. The engine isn't Ford's most powerful, but the new 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine should be potent enough with turbocharging and other efficiency related technologies.
Ford says the new interior, which seats up to seven people, features high-quality materials and fine detailing, such as an "ultra-soft" leather wrap for the instrument panel and leather and carbon-fiber details on the seats. Ford's Sync connectivity system with MyFord Touch makes the car a wireless hotspot, and there's a tablet docking station for second-row occupants.
2015 Ford Focus Electric hides in plain sight
Wed, 16 Apr 2014The styling changes to the 2015 Ford Focus were shown off at the recent Geneva Motor Show, so what the EV version looks like is not that much of a surprise. Still, the 2015 Focus Electric is making its world debut here at the New York Auto Show, so we wanted to know what changes we are looking at compared to both the internal combustion engine version and the earlier EV models.
The exterior visual distinctions between the ICE and EV are minimal, and basically nonexistent from the A-pillar to the rear. Up front, you can see the charge port, of course, but the front fascia has also undergone a bit of an adjustment. The front doesn't have the ICE version's flattened grille and the EV's Ford logo creates a bump in the hood line where none exists on the ICE. The 2015's grille is also different than the one on the 2014 Focus Electric, being slightly smaller (you can see this better if you compare pictures in our new gallery above to these of the 2011 Focus Electric and these of the gas-powered 2015 Focus).
The updated 2015 interior - which we couldn't access ourselves - has things like a new center stack, improved cupholders and is basically identical between the gas and electric models. With the car off, you can't even tell if you're in an EV or ICE, Seema Bardwaj, the US brand manager for the Focus, told AutoblogGreen. The only things that are different, she said, are extra menu screens to show EV powertrain information to the driver.
