Big trucks like this 1951 Ford F5 remind us today that life was very different  in the 1950's. Most of the heavy lifting around town was handled by trucks very much like this one, designed to carry immense loads at modest speeds. Texas Classic Cars of Dallas is happy to present this 1951 Ford Custom F-5 Boom Truck.

The Ford F series was excellent to transport heavy loads, and the fact that they still remain "handsome" does not hurt. Today they are still the fastest growing cars and trucks for collectors or car lovers. The current owner purchased the truck three years ago and had it restored to use for trade shows for his company.

It ended up being used only once and the owner then just parked it in his warehouse for a little over a year. He brought it to us to refresh and sell. We installed a mechanical fuel pump, new 8 volt battery for more starting ease, new plugs, and also a new master cylinder.

The paint is a modern interpretation of classics, a red with chrome in some parts and the grill protector that screams heavy duty work.

 photo IMG_9508.jpg

This F5 is every bit nice, a lot of smart upgrades that make it a more practical vehicle for those who really would put it to use.  It is  rust free, with a solid cab, fenders doors and hood.

The interior is neatly trimmed with a red vinyl bench seat and painted metal with the same color as the exterior. The design is very simple but enough for those working people that would love to have this truck reemphasizing on the good lucks and the style of the Ford trucks.

The dash and doors have been all painted giving the interior a great contrast.

Manual steering and drum brakes have been placed and are easy enough to manage, being a big vehicle it may take a bit to get used to it but it will not disappoint you.

Notable details include the cab running lights, heavy duty two hooks up front, and a wood bed that can support any kind of heavy load.

The winch is completely operational.

The mounting of four tires and muffler repair were some of the things we have done here. Fit and finish is appropriate to an original heavy duty truck, with doors that open and close easily, and hood that latches tight, and a very attention grabbing overall look.

A Ford flat head V8 is in place as the engine for this big truck which displaces 239 cu in and makes around 100hp. The carburetor was also rebuilt and the truck runs great.

You can now order Domino's pizza from your Sync-equipped Ford

Tue, 07 Jan 2014

The news keeps pouring in from the Consumer Electronics Show now underway in Las Vegas, and the latest comes from Ford which has announced two new apps for its Sync AppLink system.
First up is a cooperative app launched by Ford together with Domino's Pizza that lets drivers of the former order pizza from the latter right from their car. The service allows those with Ford Sync AppLink in their car or truck and are registered with a Domino's Pizza Profile to place an order for their favorite pie using Dearborn's voice-recognition software for either pickup or delivery. Save your information in your Pizza Profile and it'll be sent to your house without even the push of a button, which strikes us as awesome a use of technology as we've ever seen.

Toyota hangs on to title of world's largest automaker for first half of 2013

Fri, 26 Jul 2013

General Motors and Ford can have all the success they please, but it doesn't seem like America's two largest manufacturers are going to topple Toyota in the first half of 2013. According to Reuters, Toyota moved 4.91 million vehicles in the first six months of 2013, representing a 1.1-percent drop from the same period in 2012.
GM is on the rise, though, with a four-percent increase in global sales, to 4.85 million. Volkswagen, still sitting in third, saw a 5.5-percent jump to 4.7 million vehicles in the first half of 2013.
If this pace continues for Toyota, it'll finish 2013 in the top sales spot for the second year in a row. The manufacturer fell to third, behind GM and VW, in 2011 after earthquakes and tsunamis ravaged its production capacity.

1964 Ford GT40 prototype sells for $7M

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Seven-figure Ferraris are not horribly rare. Heck, an eight-figure Ferrari isn't a rare occurrence. Between modern masterpieces like the Enzo and more classic offerings, cracking the million-dollar mark isn't a particularly tall order for the cars from Maranello. For a Ford, though, it's a big deal.
Now, this is not just some rare Mustang. This is a GT40, the car that Henry Ford II commissioned to whip Enzo Ferrari around a track in France. As far as the Le Mans-winning racers go, they don't get much rarer than this one. Sold at the Mecum Auctions in Houston, this is one of the prototypes, meaning it's one of the very first GT40s ever built. That makes its $7 million winning a bid, a record for on-air coverage of the auction, a pretty darn impressive figure.
You can watch the auction below, but first, take a look back at our original story on this rare Blue Oval.
