We have owned this beauty for five years. It has been a daily driver for my wife. We have put about 60k miles on it since purchasing. Runs good, sounds good. Excellent starting point for a complete restoration. She is ready for a different toy.

I personally sanded the entire car down three years ago for paint. Body is solid. No rust on the body. Some minor rust under front floorboards. Less than 1 cup of body filler on the entire car. Truly an excellent Georgia car. Recently replaced all four tires, rear brakes, rear wheel bearing on passenger side, carpet is new, battery is less than a year old, power steering pump was replaced about two years ago. The interior was redone before we bought it. The dashboard and door panels are very nice. The dash board has not been cut. The stereo is mounted under the air conditioner. Still has the original radio.

The engine runs strong. About due for a tune up, starting to get a little hesitation. We have been back and forth to Georgia several times. It rides beautifully on the open highway.

Here's the ugly.

The antenna is broken.
The seats and interior are in good shape. The front seat has one split seam.
The pulley on the power steering is warped, it wobbles. Apparently it finally wore out the seal. It leaks fluid.
The AC compressor will need to be replaced. AC not working now.
The steering is sloppy. The tie rods and bushings seem solid, the steering box seems to be the issue.
The flywheel was replaced with a cheap one last year. Not well balanced. It shakes some from that.
The horn contact plate is worn out. Horn doesn't work.

All in all, this is a great car. We honestly don't care if we sell it or not. Just thinking it's time for a new toy. Might flex on the price. Cash talks.
Also willing to consider a partial trade on an older VW convertible or another convertible. Not looking for an even trade. There will be cash involved. Getting ready for a project car.

I will get more pictures up ASAP.

Watch this Ford F-150 SVT Raptor fly like an eagle [UPDATE]

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a very capable truck right out of the box, but "capable" has never translated into "invincible." Just ask the owner of the machine in this video. In it, the driver gets frisky with an aggressive jump with plenty of speed on his hands. The result is enough air to make Vaughn Gittin Jr. blush. As always, it's not the launch that's painful, but the re-entry. Gravity eventually asserts its dominance over the $43,630 pickup in a big way, and when it comes crashing down, it does so with a vengeance.
The impact was hard enough to set off both the alarm and multiple airbags inside the cabin. It's unclear if anyone was injured in the stunt, but we certainly wouldn't be surprised to hear that was the case. You can check out the stunt in the video below, and remember, when in doubt, back out of the throttle. Be warned, there may be some explicit/NSFW language in the clip.
UPDATE: Second video added with an even better look at the jump added below.

Ford making Fusion production moves to challenge Camry on volume

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

The Ford Fusion may already beat the Toyota Camry in terms of models offered, transaction price and sales increase so far this year, but if the Fusion wants to make a run at the title of best-selling car in the US, Bloomberg reminds us that volume is key. Opening a second production line at the Flat Rock, MI assembly plant will reportedly allow Ford to produce around 350,000 Fusions annually, which compares Toyota's ability to crank out 475,000 Camrys and Honda's capacity to build around 450,000 Accords.
For the Fusion, that's an extra 100,000 units compared to the car's current pace, and the article adds that the Fusion is "Ford's best shot" to regain the passenger car sales crown - a title it (or any other US automaker, for that matter) hasn't held since the mid-1990s. Despite hiccups with recalls and fuel economy numbers, the Ford Fusion is still red hot when it comes to sales. Fusion sales are up 13 percent so far this year (compared to a 0.6 percent decrease for Camry), and its average transaction price of $26,343 is about $2,300 more than its rival from Toyota.
The Fusion's popularity has helped Ford improve its sales in California; the Dearborn-based automaker has a market share of 18 percent in the state, which is just a fraction of a percentage behind Honda. And this popularity should continue as Ford ups Fusion production and expands the model lineup even further for 2014 with a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine soon to become an option.

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.
