Listed for sale is this  2004 Ford Explorer XLT with approximately 119K miles.  The vehicle is in very good condition inside and out.  The interior shows some wear and tear, but the leather seats and carpet are free of rips.  Front seats could use some leather cleaner, but the rest of the seats look almost new.  The exterior is also in very good condition.  There is paint peeling from the end of the hood caused by the wind visor that was recently moved.  Overall, I rate the interior a 7.5, and the exterior an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

The vehicle will need some mechanical work.  Installed what was believed to be a good transmission about 3 weeks.  Once the transmission was installed, the vehicle shifted perfectly, but it had no park.  It would rolled if the vehicle was not on a flat surface, but all the other gears worked perfectly.  Now, the reverse only works some of the time.  I had several mechanics said this has to do with the linkage, which could be caused if the transmission wasn't installed properly.  The vehicle belongs to my uncle whose almost certain the transmission he purchased was good, but that it wasn't installed.  My uncle happens to be a mechanic; however, he didn't install the transmission.  He's not sure what he wants to do with the vehicle, and asked if I would list it on EBay for him.  The car was just recently serviced and tuned-up.  In addition, both catalytic convertors were replaced; so the vehicle sound a little louder than normal. However, both O2 sensors will need to be replaced.

This is a very nice vehicle overall, which is worth repairing.  Again, he doesn't believe it's the transmission, but he's not 100% sure.  However, he did get a quote for another transmission and installation, which came up to approximately $900 to $1000.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  Thanks and Good Luck!

NOTE:  $300 Deposit due within 24 hours and full payment in 3 days.

Ford Focus EV's slow sales trigger massive incentives

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The Detroit News reports Ford is having real trouble moving its new Focus Electric. As a result, the automaker is offering substantial incentives in an attempt to lure in more buyers. How substantial? Try $10,750 off of a three-year lease. What's more, the EV can now be had for $37,995 ($2,000 less than its original base price) on top of an additional $2,000 cash discount to buy the EV outright - or you can opt for 1.9-percent financing if you work through Ford Motor Credit. None of which factors in various potential government incentives. Last year, Ford managed to sell a paltry 685 of the 1,627 Focus EV hatchbacks it built.
Ford isn't alone in trying to woo more buyers to its EV effort. Nissan cut the price of its Leaf by a whopping 18 percent for 2013, now down to $28,800 and built in the USA. The move followed the automaker's substantial incentives in 2012.
If you want a Focus Electric, you can now apparently get your hands on one for as little as $285 per month with $930 due at signing for a 36-month lease with 10,500 miles per year.

Ford car-camo artist works his craft on Australia's new Falcon XR8

Fri, 25 Jul 2014

Ford is among the kings of concealment when it comes to test cars. On one recent Mustang SVT mule, the automaker went to the extreme of putting baffles over the exhausts to hide how many there were. Sounds like a lot of work, right? In a new video, the Blue Oval has decided to take fans behind the scenes to show them what it takes to camouflage a prototype. In this case the subject was the recently unveiled 2014 Falcon XR8 for Australia.
Ford's prototype build coordinator Down Under has the very appropriate name of Neil Trickey, and it's his job to obfuscate the important bits of test cars to keep them out of spy shooters' camera lenses. Trickey calls his job a "dark art," and he shows off some of the tricks of his trade in the video. It turns out that the fabric we often see on mules is a type of lycra, but his team isn't above getting out a can of spray paint to conceal parts, too.

Ford won't be releasing GT500 lap times for the 'Ring, or any other car

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

Trucks have towing capacity, EVs have driving range and performance cars have Nürburgring lap times. What do all three have in common? They should all be taken with a grain of salt. Currently, there is no sanctioned way to record lap times or verify production-spec cars - a lesson we recently learned with the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo - and until there is a way to do so (and there probably never will be), we'll never officially know the actual time it took for Ford to lap the 'Ring with its ultra-powerful Shelby GT500.
After posting a Ford-made video of a 2013 GT500 running around the 'Ring, the guys over at SVTPerformance.com (an enthusiasts forum not affiliated with Ford or SVT) wanted more answers. They got in touch with Ford's Global Performance Vehicle Chief Engineer Jamal Hameedi, who said until there is a way to verify the times and inspect the cars, Ford will not get involved with lap-time wars. In the email, Hameedi pointed out that the 'Ring is a useful tool in that it allows a wide spectrum of track conditions, but until there is a governed way to record times, there is no way to accurately compare cars head-to-head.
And as much as some may not like it, Hameedi speaks the truth. It really isn't possible to compare times from one car to another, unless those cars were lapping the same track at the same time with the same driver. Not that any of this means there won't be continuous wars by fans and manufacturers alike... in other words, feel free to voice your opinions in the Comments below.
