1995 BMW M3 Coupe, Mugello Red with Black interior, 13,175 miles, 5 speed manual gearbox. Factory sport package car with all 3 available options for 1995 - heated seats, sunroof and cruise control. This is a first rate, investment grade example of a 1995 M3 coupe that will fit well in a collection. Contributing to the condition is the fact of it was always loved and meticulously cared for by its original adult owner. Garaged since new, perfect original paint with all documentation and records for service work done. Break in procedure stickers are still on the front windshield. Annual oil changes, brake fluid, coolant and differential fluid replaced multiple times trough the years. Metal impeller water pump installed as preventive maintenance. This is a model of significance for BMW as it is the return of the M3 to the US market after the E30. The 1995 3 liter cars are the original US version and a one year model only - closer to the M roots than the 3.2 cars. Number 776 from the first 2500 manual transmission M3 coupes for the US in the rarest production color Mugello Red (available only for 6 months from 3/94 to 9/94 the only color with a limited run). Enhanced with Dinan software, European air box, Borla exhaust, k&n filter and BBS RW 500 3 piece wheels 17x8 (no longer available) on original Michelin Pilot SX tires with BBS lug wheel bolts, Racing Dynamics front strut brace. INCLUDED in excellent condition (ORIGINAL WHEELS, EXHAUST, AIR BOX). It comes with everything it did in 1995 - manuals, 2 keys with remotes plus master lighted M key, original window sticker and a BMW copy, purchase invoice, unused tool kit, spare tire, flash light. Original M3 brochure and copies of major US automotive magazines reviewing the introduction of the 1995 BMW M3. This is certainly an opportunity to own a new 1995 M3, 22 years after. It would be hard (if possible at all) to find a car that matches this example (condition, mileage, love, care and provenance). Would be a rare and strong piece in any collection, an opportunity to own the last analog BMW Motorsport car for the US market.

BMW i8's three-cylinder sounds like it's shaping up quite nicely

Tue, 25 Mar 2014

We've run across some rather interesting news... or perhaps we should say interesting sounds. The folks from Bimmerpost have scrounged up a short video showing a preproduction BMW i8 running through a few gears in Sport mode at a quick pace, and if you were concerned that the somewhat eco-friendly nature of the upcoming German sports car would neuter its ability to stir the aural senses, fret not.
Judging by the lovely noise coming from the engine compartment of the i8 in the video, BMW's expertise in tuning high-strung, small-bore engines - remember, BMW Motorrad has quite the penchant for well-conceived motorcycle engines - has come through loud and clear. Now, it's worth mentioning that BMW's controversial Active Sound technology will be included with the i8, so the production car may not sound exactly like this version, which is running with the tech disabled. Owners won't have the ability to disable Active Sound on production i8s.
In related news, Bimmerpost reports that BMW will equip the i8 with an external Active Sound Design system to go along with its Pedestrian Protection System. That means those on the outside will likely hear piped engine recordings from the rear and a sort of "howl" from the front in order to warn pedestrians that the otherwise quiet (when running on electricity, that is) car is approaching. It will also feature technology that can stop the car before contacting a pedestrian.

BMW i creates high-design solar charging carport

Fri, 09 May 2014

With the first deliveries of the i3 under way, and the recent i8 press launch, the marketing push in the US for the BMW electric sub-brand has begun. These i vehicles are supposed to have a completely different feel from the rest of the brand's lineup. To complement their earth-friendly ethos, the Bavarian company commissioned BMW Group DesignworksUSA in California to create a solar carport concept that could keep the models sustainably topped up on power. It premiered alongside the i8 in Los Angeles at the electric sports coupe's media launch.
At first glance, the BMW i Solar Carport Concept looks like a pergola from a winery or a well-groomed garden, but like the i vehicles, the deeper you look, the more high-tech features there are. The sides feature carbon elements in a similar way that the i3 and i8 have a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body. Bamboo forms the uprights because its quick-growing nature makes it rather sustainable, and the solar panels are strung along the top to harness energy.
Obviously the sun can't provide all of the energy that the electric cars need, and a BMW Wallbox Pro charger is also connected to the power grid as a supplement. It includes a readout telling users the amount of solar energy versus municipal electricity it's using.

Xcar checks if BMW's i8 offers moves as electrifying as its looks

If you were to plot the general opinion about hybrids since their introduction among auto enthusiasts, the resulting graph would likely be shaped somewhat like a "V." In the beginning interest was high, simply due the novelty of these new powertrains, then the line would gradually fall as the models got the stereotype of being boring commuters. Today, though, things might be back on the upswing. Vehicles like the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and BMW i8 are showing that a hybrid doesn't have to be synonymous for dull. In its latest video, Xcar Films aims to find out if BMW's electrified sports coupe actually earns the brand's old moniker as the ultimate driving machine.
While the focus here is on what the i8 is like behind the wheel, one of the main highlights for the viewer is the interesting ways that Xcar shoots the BMW. It's not necessarily a beautiful vehicle, but seeing it in motion reveals all sorts of little intricacies that still photos don't pick up. For example, our eye catches the flying buttresses and little crevices scooped out of the corners when we get a look at the rear. It's just a fun car to look at.
With its 1.5-liter, turbocharged, three-cylinder engine and electric motor, the i8 positions itself as the future of automotive performance. But its intriguing looks and cutting-edge use of carbon fiber would be wasted if the coupe didn't drive well. We won't spoil the final verdict, though, you'll have to watch the video above.
