1988 BMW M3 E30 - with S50B30 US spec E36 M3 motor & 5 spd gearbox.

Ideal base to build a stripped out track car with cage & harnesses etc.. or restore to full interior original spec road car.

The car has been completely stripped of its interior to inspect panels, floors and condition of wiring & carpeting.  Drivers seat, dash & steering wheel still in place, so the vehicle is still drivable & roadworthy, with seat belts & mirrors etc..

All Interior parts removed are included with the sale, however as you can see from the photos it is in poor condition and will need refurbished.

VIN: WBSAK0303J2196492

MILEAGE:  Title shows 102,413 MILES - Odometer shows 101,388 miles.
The odometer appears to be original but has stopped counting, so title reflects estimated true vehicle miles covered. (only about 1000 miles since last change of ownership), car was stored for a long time during engine transplant.

The Good:

  • Straight E30 M3 shell & chassis stripped ready for track preparation or restoration.
  • Strong S50B30 M3 motor installed in standard tune with all ancillaries. Runs & drives well.
  • 5 spd M3 transmission with quick shift kit installed, No issues.
  • H&R springs, factory dampers.
  • OEM E30 M3 brakes all round, good rotors & pads recently replaced.
  • 5 OEM 15x7" BBS M3 basket weave wheels in great condition with good bridgestone tires
  • Xenon bulbs in Euro smiley headlights. left Main beam light replaced with ram air intake. (Spare lamp included).
  • Evo M3 DTM front lip spoiler
  • E36 M3 shorter ratio steering rack installed.
  • Oil changed, all fluids topped off.
  • A/C system disabled, all parts to reinstate are included.
  • Heater & all controls function properly with NO leaks.
  • Brand new battery
  • No rust in some of the typical E30 problem areas: (Front windshield lower scuttle panel has been replaced, rear license plate lights area is good, under carriage looks good, trunk floor looks OK, battery tray shelf area next to firewall under hood has been replaced with new metal.
  • Original BMW factory build sheet from 09/28/1987
  • Clean & Clear title in hand.

The Bad:

  • The car is originally white and has been painted within the last few years, Badly.  It looks fine from 15 feet away, but is a very amateur job. My plan was to repair the problem areas, install a cage and give it a full windows out respray inside & out.
  • The doors & hood need lined up properly, areas of bad body filler repairs & rusty sunroof tray, which will need removed completely & either a new one installed or sunroof to be sealed closed.
  • Leaky power steering hose. I have one but not sure if its the correct hose that needs replaced. (The steering rack doesn't leak, boots are dry). It is still drivable since it only uses a few drops of fluid per drive.
  • Engine conversion was completed by the previous owner and while it has been installed correctly, it needs some wires to be routed better, the radiator & some accessories need to be fastened more securely also.
  • Oil temp gauge is not connected & the tachometer sits at 3000 rpm until it revs past that point.
  • Exhaust is pieced together in the center with flex pipe, which leaks as it is not sealed. It is also very loud due to only having a rear muffler.
  • The dash has 2 major cracks, I have a crack FREE dash included along with all the other interior parts that were removed from the car.  (Note: the rear seat bench is not included as it was too damaged, the back rest upper part is included).

Please email for many more pics of under the car, stripped interior, & spare parts included.

I have tried to be as honest as possible in describing the condition of the car, however i will no doubt have missed some details, so i welcome local inspections prior to bidding.  Please don't hesitate to email with any questions.
Thank you.

2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe now more expensive than when new

Sun, 06 Apr 2014

At the end of the day, your friendly Autoblog editors are car guys, just like you. So, while we might have more of an opportunity to test some of the most interesting vehicles on the new car scene than does your average gear head, we can still be found whiling away those long afternoon hours looking at used cars and thinking about what could be.
Just the other day, we had a vivid reminder about one of our dream cars from the very recent past, the 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe. If you didn't catch it, Michael Harley had a great time testing and reviewing the new Dinan S3-R version of the car, which throws an impressively engineered turbo and suspension tune on a BMW that was damn near perfect out of the box.
In the Comments section of that review, a few savvy Autoblog readers pointed out that our estimated price for a used donor car, set at $50,000, was low. Odd, we thought, as the car retailed for less than $50k ($46,135) when it was new in 2011. So we started checking around.

2014 BMW M5 facelift shows up online

Tue, 14 May 2013

Is it that time already? Like its predecessors, the current BMW M5 has been endangering US licenses since it first went on sale here in 2012, but its design became a known quantity back at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Apparently that also means that the F10 generation has already grown tired enough to the "Must Have Latest Set" who can afford these sorts of super saloons that a facelift is in order.
If these leaked images sourced from Autocar are anything to go by, BMW stylists have used a predictably light hand to rework their hottest 5 Series, with a revised grille that echoes the M6 along with modestly resculpted headlamps. The rear end appears wholly unaltered. Interior changes gleaned from a look at the cabin photos include an updated touchpad-equipped iDrive controller and a new steering wheel cribbed from the M6.
No new word on changes to the 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 powertrain, but in late April, we heard that BMW was readying new competition packages for the M5 and M6. The packages are said to include 15 more horsepower, revised suspension and steering, along with new wheels and blackened exhaust tips. Given that BMW is known for habitually underrating its cars' horsepower outputs (particularly its M models) we can't help but wonder if its engineers will need to do anything other than wave a magic wand to corral those extra ponies underhood...

BMW X4 opens up alongside its boxier brother

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

It doesn't seem so long ago that BMW (not to mention Audi, Volvo and a handful of other European automakers) weren't in the crossover market. But it's been over a decade since BMW began producing the first-gen X5, and in the fourteen years since, the Bavarian automaker has steadily expanded its portfolio to include the X1, X3 and X6.
The next to join the family will be the X4, which is essentially to the X3 what the X6 is to the X5. That is to say, basically the same vehicle, only with an (arguably) more stylish but less utile roofline. Previewed in concept form at the Shanghai Auto Show half a year ago, the X4 has been snapped by our plucky paparazzi in the past, but this is the first time we've seen inside.
Not only that, but the prototype in question was spotted next to the current X3 on which it is based, which gives us ample opportunity to see the differences between them. Of course, that still primarily comes down to the slantback profile, because otherwise, the two are essentially the same inside and out. Or at least they will be: many of the differences between the two are expected to port over to the X3 when it's refreshed next year, including some subtle interior upgrades - just not the roofline.
