This BMW has had a lot of work done to it. I start with the cosmetic stuff.

When I got the vehicle it was involved in a minor fender bender that bent the driver's side fender. It damaged the headlight, fender, and hood. I was able to "mend" the fender (still out of alignment since it was meant as more of a temporary fix) and headlight.
That's was at least $300 of work by myself for parts alone. The interior has been COMPLETELY restored. Each seat has been reupholstered with new padding and leather. It is almost immaculate with the exception of the small hole in the drivers side seat. In interior alone the vehicle has had $1200 worth of work. The dashboard is not cracked which is almost impossible on the 80's vinyl dashboard. The Odometer gave out before I received the car, at 176,000. The previous owner clocked the engine at 184,000 miles. That was on the list of repairs, eventually. That's it for cosmetics.

The engine has been a piece of work. I've replaced over a $1,500 in parts ever since I've got this car in January. When I got it it was not running with a blown Headgasket. I had to complete the Headgasket job which included: fan clutch assembly, ALL radiator pipes, water pump, new intake manifold, new Headgasket, new intake and exhaust gaskets, new air intake rubber hoses and boot, new oil return tube, new spark plugs, new timing belt, new accessory belt, new power steering belt, new thermostat, and new breather hose for the crankcase. All in all, it was over a grand in parts as everything was ordered OEM from Pelican Parts. I have a new Fuel Pressure Regulator coming in as well for installation. I have another easy $150 in spare parts which include all four brake rotors and the rear brake pads, another timing belt, power steering belt, accessory belt, lots is seals (crank, valve stem, and other various seals that I am not positive what they go to), and an older headlight assembly (not the ellipsoid, the OEM metal one), and some other various radiator pipes, all are being included with this purchase.

All in all the amount of money that has been put into this thing is about $3,150, without taking it to a mechanic. It runs, and runs solidly. It just needs a new oil change and some tender love and care. This car would be a perfect project car. I do not have the time to continue to fix this vehicle as I move soon.

BMW X4 hatches its fastback shape in Shanghai

Fri, 19 Apr 2013

The day has finally come for BMW to pull the covers off its X4 Concept at the Shanghai Motor Show. The machine brings few surprises - we've already seen an official image gallery from the German automaker, so its exterior shape was well known - but at least now we get to see it with our own eyes, and with the lenses of our very own cameras.
You can clearly see the fastback roofline in our high-res image gallery above, along with the jacked-up stance that allows BMW to call this machine a Sports Activity Vehicle, which basically means "Crossover" to our friends in Munich. We've seen similar vehicle shapes before, most notably in the form of the BMW X6, but also as far back as the 1980s from the likes of AMC.
We fully expect the transition from concept to production to be pretty seamless, so what we see here is, for the most part, what we'll see on the showroom floor in 2014. Feel free to peruse the press release below, but first, be sure to browse through our live images from Shanghai and let us know what you think.

BMW revises X1 to tide it over until replacement

Tue, 17 Dec 2013

It's been over five years since BMW first introduced the X1 at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, and a bit over a year since it brought the compact crossover to these shores. Soon the Bavarian automaker will replace the X1 with a new model based on the company's new front-drive architecture, but not before it gives it a few updates to keep it fresh.
Set to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show next month alongside the Z4 Pure Fusion Design and the new M3 sedan and M4 coupe, the enhanced X1 benefits from some new exterior accents, a spruced-up interior and new technology packed inside.
New air intakes in the bumper and integrated daytime driving lights distinguish the front end, with new wheel and color options available. Inside, certain versions get a new dashboard treatment, among other minor trim updates, and BMW has installed its latest ConnectedDrive suite to keep it up with the times. Scroll down for the full details.

BMW takes 30th Anniversary Edition M5 out to drift

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

If you only look at the videos from BMW, it appears that the best way to celebrate the 30th birthday of the M5 is some smoky drifting, and it sure looks like a great way to mark the occasion to us. Now that the Bavarian brand's new 30th anniversary special edition is all set to hit the road, the most powerful M5 ever is getting it own chance to roast its tires on video, as well.
The M5 30th Anniversary Edition shouldn't have any problem hanging its rear end out, really. Under the hood, its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 is turned up to 600 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque and can allegedly sprint to 60 miles per hour in a scant 3.7 seconds. That's pretty impressive for any sports car but especially for a sedan that can still carry four passengers comfortably cosseted in leather and Alcantara upholstery.
BMW is making just 300 of these celebratory models worldwide, and appropriately for the anniversary, only 30 of them are going to be available in the US. If the special M5 doesn't make your heart race, the video basks in a little nostalgia, as well, by showing off the original model for some historical context.
