Hello! I have for sale my honest, solid 1973 BMW 2002 in Agave Green, with Tan interior. This is a great looking and driving example of the desirable 1973 model, which was the last year for round tail lights and graceful chromed steel bumpers.  The following year, the square tail lights and awkward, large 5MPH crash bumpers were introduced.

This car is an absolute joy to drive. Being very light weight, it is extremely peppy it is a blast to be behind the wheel of. If you've owned a 2002 you already know why they make such great drivers. They were used as track cars and still are in SCCA racing. Great handling. The wonderful visibility from the “glass bubble” cockpit really adds to the fun, and you can see everything outside of the car really well.

Having spent most of it's life garaged and well taken care of, its not a very rusty car.  There are a few rust bubbles under the paint in spots, but these are stable. There is a couple small holes on the drivers side rear fender (please see photos). There is also some spots on the bottom of the front valance. It has been painted with rustproof along the rockers, bottom around the car to prevent rust. This is a very solid unrestored shell. A great candidate in which you can drive while you restore, or a great canvas for full restoration.

The interior is in very nice shape, with the original German wool carpet looking great, besides a small hole in the carpet under the driver floor mat.  There is a set of four cocoa mats installed.  Front driver seat has a tear at a seam. While the passenger and rear seat are in tact. The dash is great, with one small crack, and no hardening. Headlinder is clean, with no tears.  It has a later steering wheel from a 2002. I would opt for the original "Bus" steering wheel or even a Nardi.

The wheels have very presentable hub caps with very nice tires.

I'm not actually sure of the total actual mileage on the car.  The odometer reads 55489 but it is not working. The speedo and tachometer are in working condition though, as well as all lights(brake, high beams, turn signals), windows, windshield wipers (as well as 2nd wiper speed), and even the radio! (needs new speakers).

There is no AC, or heat, the fan does not operate.

This is an extremely solid and complete 2002 for its age, it has no slack in the steering or shift linkage and drives very straight and smooth and feels solid as can be when driving, it idles perfect, and the exhaust is very smooth sounding, quiet, and compliments how promising of a car it is.

The temp needle always stays just below middle once warm. (If you've ever owned BMW's, especially in Florida, you know they like to sit at the 3/4 mark, and more so with fluctuation when the headlights on!)

It was the previous owner's pride and joy he took great care of it replacing many seals, rubber, and small parts.

Recent Parts include a new battery, drive shaft center bearing. u joint, brake flush, front brake lines, fuel filter, air filter (weber carb assembly), and fresh oil change.

This is a fun car. It's a great driver.  I don’t really want to sell it, but I have too many cars in my stable now, so rather than leave this one out, its time to find a new home for it.

I apologize for my bad iPhone pictures!

Weekly Recap: The divergent paths of Tesla and Fisker

Sat, 02 Aug 2014

There's no doubt that Tesla is downshifting while Fisker has been grinding its gears. But it wasn't always that way.
In the wake of Tesla's recent success, it's easy to forget that there were once two California electric carmakers with bright futures.

2015 BMW M4 Convertible is here to put wind in your sails

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

Each generation of the BMW M3 has included a convertible model. Even the distant E30, the patriarch of the M3 line, had an ultra-rare (only 787 were built) droptop model. The convertible became more common on the successive generations, with the hardtop-convertible E93 being the most recent. Considering this history, there seemed very little doubt that as the M3 became the M4, a convertible would be in the cards. Now, the new droptop has arrived.
Set for its global debut at the 2014 New York Auto Show, the 2015 BMW M4 Convertible features, like its forbearers, everything that's great about the hardtop variant while adding an unlimited amount of head room. That means the same 3.0-liter, 425-horsepower, 406-pound-foot, twin-turbocharged straight six sits under its domed hood, while either a six-speed stick or a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission dispatches power to the fat rear tires.
As for specific differences between the hardtop and the new convertible, obviously, the droptop is heavier. A lot heavier. Where an M4 with a six-speed manual tips the scales at 3,530 pounds, the M4 Convertible weighs in at 4,055 pounds. Believe it or not, BMW has actually trimmed 90 pounds from the last-generation M3 convertible, code-named E93. This marginal weight reduction from the third-generation convertible to the fourth is barely half of the 174 pounds BMW was able to subtract when transitioning from M3 Coupe to M4 Coupe.

Researchers halfway to cutting carbon fiber costs by 90%

Wed, 15 Oct 2014

Carbon fiber has been utilized for decades to build racecars, as a means to cut weight while maintaining strength. But until recently, the space-age material has been largely absent from the street on anything but supercars because of the expense to use it. Recently, BMW signaled a major shift in that trend when it starting using carbon fiber reinforced plastic panels on the i3 and i8. This relatively small scale start might be just the beginning; the German company believes that a breakthrough to inexpensively manufacture the lightweight stuff is just on the horizon.
MAI Carbon Cluster Management GmbH counts BMW, Audi, Airbus, the German government and many other organizations as supporters, and it's researching how to make carbon fiber cheaper to produce, according to Automotive News Europe. The company thinks it can reduce costs by 90 percent in the near future. "We've certainly reached a halfway point on our cost-cutting target for suitable carbon-fiber parts," said project head Klaus Drechsler to Automotive News Europe.
Unfortunately, it isn't entirely clear just what MAI Carbon is doing to make such a huge leap possible. However, a recent post on the company's website talks about a new form a carbon fiber using a thermoplastic matrix that could be cured in less than three minutes. That's compared to about 90 minutes in the traditional process with an autoclave.
