PAINT AND BODY

The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight with excellent seems and panel fit. Sheet metal is believed to be original the best that we can tell (I was told that there should be a “dent” in the quarter panels if there original so if these have been replaced then they look better than factory) Trunk floor, Floorboards, Rockers, Fenders, Hood, Doors and Frame Rails are super clean and appear original to me. The paint in the entire door jams, trunk and inner fenders look fantastic. The undercarriage is some of the nicest I’ve ever seen and has been lightly (very lightly) undercoated. The underside of the trunk lid and hood are also in stunning condition. The doors open and close excellent with ease just like they did in 1970 and the windows roll up and down perfectly and without any issue at all.

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks. The front windshield is new and in excellent shape but all the rest of the glass is original to the car. All windows and locks operate just as they should. The front and rear bumpers are excellent. The window trim is very clean and as new.

INTERIOR

The interior was re-done with correct factory seat covers from Legendary Interiors. All seat padding and seat frames are “as new” condition. Carpet, door panels, trunk divider, speaker shelf, dash pad, wood-grain on complete dash, headliner, correct interior insulation, dash gauge bezels are all impeccable. The gauge cluster is super nice and looks factory new. All gauges work and operate correctly. A tachometer was added by me but the original “delete plate” comes with the car. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, taillights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers, back up lights and license plate light. The AM radio also works. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn, speedometer and dimmer switch all work just as they should.

DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSION

The 340 has excellent power, runs very strong and sounds great. As I stated earlier, the (original to this car) 340 was rebuilt last year by one of the best machine shops in the western states and comes with a “Build Book” that carefully documents the entire process from Am Pro cleaning the block to the entire build right back to OEM specs. Engine includes it’s factory forged crank and rods and original to the car intake and original to the car exhaust manifolds most everything. It still has it’s original X heads (they usually get taken by now) freshly hand ported and rebuilt to exacting standards. Again, these items are all original to THIS car including the original LA only 340 Automatic 4bbl carburetor that was just freshly restored by Scott Smith at Harms Auto who is the best in the business. The radiator is “show quality” and original to this very car bearing the factory correct part number 2998978 restored by Glen Ray Radiator but also re-cored (4 rows) by Glen Ray with the correct and original to the car fan shroud so It cools excellent even on the hottest of summer days! The transmission is #’s matching to the car with a fresh rebuild with no expense spared. The rear end is an 8 3/4 with a 3.55 sure grip center section in a 489 case which was an upgraded option on the 340 Duster back in 1970. It was also blasted, painted and cleaned when restored and even has the original 3:55 call out tag. Rear axels have been upgraded to “sealed bearings” but the original tapered bearings come with the car. It has the original stock leaf springs, bushings and rear shocks are correct for the car. The front suspension was completely done with all parts being blasted, painted and re-installed. This excellent drive train combo has very good performance and handles great in all conditions whether highway or city driving. This is a very tight and excellent smooth running 340 Duster that feels like factory new, does not wander down the road, does not rattle or squeak or have any bad manners. This Duster sets itself apart from all others.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
