Lotus Super Seven Birkin on 2040-cars

Year:1973 Mileage:1300
Location:

Port Orange, Florida, United States

Port Orange, Florida, United States

For auction and reluctant sale is my Lotus Birkin Super 7. The car was imported as a rolling chassis and body from South Africa in the early 1990s by a builder of Porsche Speedster replicas who planned to expand his business to include the Super 7.  After a few years the car still hadn't been painted or received running gear, so it was sold to a local Newport Beach, Ca. enthusiast for completion.  The new owner was a well known car and aviation enthusiast and aviation businessman in southern California. The car was titled as a 1973 lotus 7 for whatever reason. The builder also actually has attached what appears to be an original lotus seven VIN plate to the firewall. I am not sure why this was done but I suspect it had something to do with California DMV rules. In any event, the car has a clean and clear Florida title at present. The new owner wanted a low maintenance, reliable twin-cam four-cylinder engine that had been designed for use in a rear wheel drive car, so a 1.8L Mazda Miata engine and gearbox were considered the best fit. He purchased the miata drive train out of a nearly new miata with 1000 documented miles. The miata owner elected to perform a ford mustang 5.0 l V8 engine swap. Thus, a nearly new drivetrain was obtained. Wilwood disc brakes were installed up front and the solid rear axle received drums.  High quality Fly Yellow paint was applied to the aluminum and fiberglass body and the interior was trimmed in black leatherette/vinyl.  The car is complete with both a full windshield and the Brooklands screen included.  A top, full tonneau and side curtains are included as well.  The yellow paint and black interior are in great condition. This Birkin had traveled just 583 miles when I purchased it two years ago and now has 1003 miles on chassis and remains in excellent condition throughout.  It is extremely fast and very well set-up. I have owned dozens and dozens of sports cars and this by far has been the most fun car I have ever owned. This statement is made having owned numerous Porsches, Ferraris etc etc. I have had three “real” lotus 7s in the past and frankly the maintenance was so high I didn’t get to really enjoy them much. I was excited about this car in the fact that it could sit for months on a trickle charger and you can hit the start toggle switch and instant idle…no lotus twin cam head gaskets issues etc etc. If you want a really nicely prepared lotus seven that has Japanese-like reliability and low maintenance then this is the 7 for you. It has literally been sitting in my garage and not being driven. I am a busy professional with a family and frankly it needs to be in the ownership of someone who can enjoy her and drive her as she needs. My reserve is less than what a new birkin kit costs. If you have any questions please feel free to email and I will respond asap.

Lotus Evora 'Sports Racer' is oddly named and fully loaded

Thu, 20 Dec 2012

Lotus has just announced a new Evora 'Sports Racer' model that is, well, frankly not much more sporty or racy than the standard Evora or Evora S. Instead, the British company calls the Sports Racer a "visually enhanced and optimized version" of both the Evora and supercharged Evora S. To unpack that a little: The new trim will get a new set of unique exterior colors and a revised interior treatment, and it's fully decked out with options.
The 'Sports Racer' will be available in the buyer's choice of Carbon Grey, Nightfall Blue and the Ardent Red that you see in the image above (the only image we've seen of the car so far). Gloss black accents set the model apart and can be seen on the roof, forged wheels, mirrors and rear badges. Inside, one may choose between black-leather sports seats with red piping and stitching, or a Venom Red leather interior with black piping and stitching. How naughty.
In terms of tech, the 'Sports Racer' gets Lotus' Sports Pack and its remapped throttle response, higher redline, more powerful cross-drilled brakes and a more aggressively programmed Dynamic Performance Management system. The stereo system is also upgraded from the basic Evora, with a DVD player and seven-inch touchscreen display thrown in for good measure.

Lotus offers Exige S Roadster for sale, but not in North America

Thu, 23 May 2013

The first thing you need to know is that this is the Lotus Exige S Roadster, unchanged from the Exige S even in price and officially the fastest convertible Lotus has ever made. The second thing you need to know is that if you live in the US, you won't be getting this car.
Now that that's out of the way, the lack of a roof, rear wing and front splitter help make it 22 pounds lighter than the coupe, coming in a 2,565 pounds, and the supercharged 3.5-liter V6 in this topless blossom discharges 345 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. For historical comparison with a non-convertible, those numbers nearly match the 2004 Lotus Esprit V8 Final Run edition - which had twin Garrett turbochargers. Yet the Exige S gets from a stoplight to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, nearly a full second quicker than that Esprit. Fair play, though, the Esprit did weigh 3,040 pounds.
It will be fitted with a six-speed manual only, and cost 52,900 pounds ($79,667 US), 55,378 euros ($71,404 US) or 8,500,000 yen ($82,078 US), depending on where you live. Here in the US we'll be sticking with the track-only Exige V6 Cup and Cup R models. The press release below offers more on the fine points.

Recap: 2013 Australian Formula One Grand Prix is all about the rubber [w/spoilers]

Sun, 17 Mar 2013

A pre-season full of talking points was swapped for a brand-new set of talking points after the running of the opening grand prix of the 2013 Formula One season. The consistency of the regulations from last year to this year and the triplicate dominance of Infiniti Red Bull Racing meant that no one would have been that surprised if the relative order of things remained the same. But teams found so many ways to switch things up that, in typical pre-season fashion, no one was ready to make any bets on in-season performance, and a couple of surprising players suffered the ignominy of getting it really wrong: McLaren knew it was in trouble from the very first test, while Williams drivers applauded their car as the best in years, only to have Pastor Maldonado call it "undriveable" on the very first day of practice in Melbourne.
And then there were those Pirellis, the Italian company talking up the fact that its super soft tires would only go off so quickly that it would force teams to pit at least twice during the race.
Even then, no one could have seen the first round of pit stops beginning on Lap 5.
