When I bought this jeep it had been sitting in a guys carport for over 8 years. It had been stolen from him and when it was recovered, the thieves had broken all the gauges and glass in the vehicle, as well as the seats and center console, and he could not afford to repair it.  The odometer at that time had somewhere around 89,000 miles on it.

After buying the vehicle, I began a restoration project. I replaced all the gauges (the odometer is a used replacement and does not reflect the actual miles), and the glass. I replaced the broken seats with a seat from a S-10 pickup that is bolted on to the original jeep seat bases. In 2008, I had the drive train evaluated, and bought a replacement engine from S&S Engine Remanfacturing in Spokane, Washington. At that time I turned the restoration project over to a local Big O garage shop. Over the next several months they replaced the existing engine with the S&S engine. They replaced the existing carb with a brand new custom carb (see pictures), they rebuilt the transmission,  transfer case, and front and rear ends, They replaced all the brakes and the rear brake drums. They put in a new clutch, throw out bearings, and power steering pump. They fixed all the electrical problems and both the clock and tach work. Finally, they put new tires on the vehicle. I had them put both an electrical fuel pump and a mechanical fuel pump in the jeep. I have only put about 400 miles on the vehicle since the work was done. This project was a labor of love for me because I had brought a jeep scrambler in 1982 when they first came out and had driven it for years until my wife had the audacity to get pregnant for the 2nd time and I was forced to sell the scrambler to buy a car. I had said if I could ever buy another one I would.

While I was doing the initial restoration work, I was mobilized by the army (again), and sent to Iraq, I was medevaced out of Iraq and medically retired by the army.  Due to my medical condition I am no longer able to work on vehicles and do any  four wheeling in the hills. That is why I had the garage do all the mechanical work on the jeep.  The work was completed in 2009, and the jeep has basically sat there since. It's time for it to go where someone will drive and use it.

I have the warranty paperwork on the engine, and I have copies of paperwork showing all the parts that were replaced during the rebuild.  There is some rust on one back fender and its in the photos. All that is really left to do with the jeep is body work and paint. I have the original wood that came on the scrambler which needs to be refinished also. I added a picture of  a ripple in the bottom of the cab on both side of the cab where it looks like the tub got pushed the forward slightly , but I could not find any frame damage, and it doesn't affect the doors opening or closing. You could replace the seat with standard jeep seats easily as the original seat bases are still in place. It has some kind of spray on undercoating which is flaking off in spots, but there isn't any rust in the bottom of the cab or tub.

This vehicle could be used as a daily driver, it starts and runs like a champ. I put well over $6,000 into it for just parts during the rebuild process. I never intended  to sell this vehicle, but it deserves a better fate than sitting in my back yard day after day.

Mazda2 nets Japan Car of the Year, Cherokee first US model to ever crack top 10

Tue, 14 Oct 2014

The 2015 Mazda2 is quite high up on our must-drive list. Yes, the teeny, tiny successor to the 100-horsepower five-door is worth getting excited over, largely because the previous generation was one of the absolute best smiles-per-dollar values on the market.
While we eagerly await for our opportunity to take to the 2's helm, our expectations of the new car have just been heightened thanks to its win in Japan's Car of the Year competition. Called "Demio" in the land of the rising sun, Japanese journalists handed out Mazda's second COTY award since the CX-5 took the title in 2012.
In more surprising news, the new Jeep Cherokee has made the list of 10 Best Cars in Japan. The Jeep's triumph marks the first time an American car has cracked the top ten, finishing eighth. It's not, however, the first Fiat Chrysler vehicle to snag the title, following in the footsteps of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Fiat Panda. Still, the fact that an American brand can make such impressive inroads into the traditionally tough-to-crack Japanese market is a seriously big deal.

Key-swapping thieves steal Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT from FL dealer

Sat, 09 Nov 2013

Just a few weeks back, we reported on the theft of an Audi RS5 by a pair of creative thieves who managed to swipe the car's keys when the salesperson stepped away from their desk. Now, a Florida dealership is missing a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 after some crooks switched the Jeep's keys with an identical, non-functioning set.
According to the report from local NBC affiliate WPTV, the men went in and spoke to a dealer about the Jeep. They walked outside, took a look at it, started it up and in the process managed to switch out the fobs. After doing their time with the salesperson, the thieves walked back out to the car, got in and drove away.
"I mean obviously, the way it was done, I think that they were professionals and they knew what they were doing," said Arrigo Jeep General Manager Joe Tufo. "The fact that they did it in broad daylight and switched the key fob and it was like it was nothing. That's what makes it unique," he added.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Jeep appears to have nailed it this time. After two decades of assembling its Grand Cherokee sport utility vehicle, the American automaker has finally delivered a world-class off-roader capable of taking on everything in its segment - and more - with a high likelihood of coming out on top.
And if you drove last year's model, it's time to climb behind the wheel again as Jeep has significantly updated the SUV for 2014 with a bold new exterior appearance, an upgraded interior with enhanced electronics and a new transmission that completely transforms the way it drives.
We recently spent a full week with a dark blue 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4, a well-optioned model fitted with the standard gasoline-fed V6. While it didn't have the punch of the range-topping V8-powered SRT8, or the fuel-sipping economy of its new EcoDiesel sibling, the high-volume variant left us quite impressed.
