I found this San Jose California built F-100 in Southern California in 2000 and purchased it from a private individual. Judging by the excellent, original condition I found the truck in, it had spent its entire life in the mild California climate. The original paint (red) was faded and thin in places and the wood in the bed was shot, but the body was in fantastic condition with the only exception being the usual dings in the bed sides and tailgate. The original 272 V-8 and 3spd OD transmission worked fine. I wanted to restore the truck to original, stock condition and started down that path but subsequently found the steering effort and brakes, even in restored condition left a lot to be desired if I was going to enjoy this truck. So, I did a lot of research on front suspension systems, especially those used in 50's Ford trucks and ultimately decided on the Mustang II setup produced by Fatman Fabrications in Charlotte, N.C.. Then I got unbelievably lucky. Relocation for work had taken me to that part of the U.S. and Fatman agreed to do the work on my truck in his shop. I wanted to stay "all Ford" as much as I could so I purchased a brand new crate engine from a Ford dealer and Fatman sourced a B&M built Ford AOD transmission and 9" Ford rear end for me. I couldn't have been happier with the quality of work Fatman and his guys did. Fatman oversaw the project himself and being a hot-rodder at heart had many great suggestions for the other components, from disc brakes to intake & carburetor, which I gladly accepted. As much as I love this truck I have never really used it as much as I thought I would, thus the 1,500 miles on the clock since it was completed. New Components installed: 5.0 Liter Ford Racing Long Block engine assembly with GT-40 Aluminum heads (320 HP) Ford Racing Starter Ford Motorsport headers Zoops chrome engine/component brackets Edelbrock manifold, carburetor & air cleaner Holley electric fuel pump B&M shifter/Ford AOD trans. Perma Cool transmission oil cooler Lokar Ford AOD Kick Down Kit Ididit Tilt Steering Column Autometer gauges Pertronix electronic ignition Taylor Pro-Series ignition wires Vintage Air Conditioning & heater Cool Craft Aluminum radiator (2012) Torque Thrust II wheels (15X8"rear, 15X7"front) BFG T/A Radial tires Flowmaster dual exhaust No sound system but plenty of room to install your own. The truck has all original 1956 American steel in it with the exception of the bedsides and tailgate that were replaced during the project. In terms of any "cons" on my truck.....the frame was not powder coated during the project, just painted black. The fuel sender may need to be replaced as the gauge seems to be off. I recently retired and my wife & I are downsizing to a smaller home so garage space will be reduced.

Ford Fiesta becomes UK all-time best seller

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

We may regard Ford as an American automaker, but ask a Brit and they may tell you otherwise. The Blue Oval has, after all, been selling cars in the UK since 1903, and started manufacturing there as far back as 1911 when it began local production of the Model T in Manchester. Last year Ford ended 100 years of vehicle manufacturing in the UK when the last Transit van rolled off the assembly line in Southampton, but it's still the biggest-selling automotive marque in Britain.
Ford has led the British market for 34 out of the past 45 years, selling more Fiestas than any other company sells any other car in the UK since 2009... when it overtook the Focus. In fact the Fiesta has now become the best-selling car in British history, topping 4,115,000 units since its introduction in 1976. The previous record was held by - you guessed it - another Ford: the Escort sold 4,105,961 units over the course of its 32 years on the British market.
Although the Fiesta is no longer manufactured in the UK (previous versions having been built at Dagenham until 2002), engines are: the EcoBoost line was developed at the company's R&D center in Essex and are built at the factory in Dunton, while its diesel engines were developed at Dagenham in East London. Even the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine in the Fiesta ST is built in South Wales.

Watch this Ford F-150 SVT Raptor fly like an eagle [UPDATE]

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is a very capable truck right out of the box, but "capable" has never translated into "invincible." Just ask the owner of the machine in this video. In it, the driver gets frisky with an aggressive jump with plenty of speed on his hands. The result is enough air to make Vaughn Gittin Jr. blush. As always, it's not the launch that's painful, but the re-entry. Gravity eventually asserts its dominance over the $43,630 pickup in a big way, and when it comes crashing down, it does so with a vengeance.
The impact was hard enough to set off both the alarm and multiple airbags inside the cabin. It's unclear if anyone was injured in the stunt, but we certainly wouldn't be surprised to hear that was the case. You can check out the stunt in the video below, and remember, when in doubt, back out of the throttle. Be warned, there may be some explicit/NSFW language in the clip.
UPDATE: Second video added with an even better look at the jump added below.

Ford celebrates 1 millionth Mustang built at Flat Rock

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

Yesterday, the Ford Mustang turned 49 years old, and Ford didn't miss the opportunity to celebrate the one millionth version of the Mustang rolling off the assembly line at the Flat Rock Assembly plant. Production of the Mustang at Flat Rock coincided with the fifth-generation design launching in 2004, and the one millionth car was the car shown above, a 2014 GT convertible painted in Ruby Red.
In total, Ford has sold more than 8.5 million Mustangs since the original car went on sale, but some of the key milestones over the car's nine years at Flat Rock include the Shelby GT-H, Bullitt, Boss 302 and, of course, the 662-horsepower Shelby GT500. Scroll down for a press release celebrating Flat Rock's milestone Mustang.
