Shelbyville, Tennessee, United States

This is my personal vehicle which I've owned for five years. The value vs. cost of repair vs. time and trouble has just reached a tipping point and we have elected to sell it.

To my knowledge, I am the Explorer's second owner. I hold a clear title. I note that the history report indicates three owners - would that have happened when I moved the title from Arizona to Tennessee? Let me know if you need any clarification.

Please review photos carefully for any body or interior trim items which I neglect to mention. I will be happy to provide any additional photos on request.

Most of the issues for this vehicle are common to this model and model year of Explorer, and I've found that articles and videos regarding the repair are easily located.
  • The primary issue is the need for a replacement transmission. The vehicle drives, but is slow to change gears, and reverse fails intermittently.
  • The front tires are new-ish, but the rear set could use replacement.
  • The a/c blows hot and needs a freon charge.
  • When we lived in Arizona, the truck was always parked under cover, but the heat affected the original steering wheel cover (photo).
  • I banged the support on a carport column with the front passenger side bumper - only the plastic part is impacted.
  • There is also a pair of dings in the hood.
  • The key is currently stuck in the ignition.
  • The drivers and rear passenger side power windows need repair. The motor works on each, but the serrated track needs replacing.
  • The "door open" sensor believes that a door is open.

The vehicle is sold as-is, without warranty.

I will answer any and all questions promptly, but please remember this listing is by a private owner, and not a dealer or mechanic. I thank you in advance for your patience.

A down-payment is required at time of purchase, with the full balance to be paid within three business days. Personal checks will not be accepted, and cashier's checks must be verified. Buyer to arrange pick-up and/or transport. We will work cooperatively to assist with transport.

Reflecting on the Ford GT on its 10-year anniversary

Thu, 10 Apr 2014

Ten years ago, during the bright-eyed enthusiasm of the early 2000s and before the collective automotive industry did its best Titanic impression, we had the Ford GT. An everyman's supercar like there'd never been (remember, this was before 638-horsepower Corvettes were a thing), the GT arrived with a supercharged, 5.4-liter V8 that produced 550 horsepower and graced this retro-styled rocket with an easy, sub-four-second sprint to 60 miles per hour.
Equal to the GT's performance were its looks. Inspired by the GT40 racers that dominated Le Mans and bested Ferrari in the 1960s, the sleek, low, almost-reptilian look of the GT was the absolute pinnacle of the retro styling that so defined the early 2000s.
Crank and Piston put together a video celebrating the ten-year-old GT, arguing that Ford is a bit too busy with the next-gen Mustang, which turns 50 next week, to do it themselves. In the short clip, there is gratuitous engine noise and supercharger whine, not to mention scenes of the white-on-red GT prowling the deserts and streets of Dubai. It's a bit short, but very nicely shot. Scroll down, have a look and be sure to turn up those speakers before getting started.

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

Hot sales have Detroit automakers shortening summer shutdowns

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

Back in May, there was speculation that the Detroit Three automakers would maintain or perhaps even extend their traditional summer shutdowns, mostly due to a bitingly cold winter that saw below-freezing temperatures infiltrate the southernmost reaches of the US, putting a chill on auto sales. Now, though, the numbers are in, and thanks to some promising sales figures, it looks like some domestic line workers are going to be working clear through July, in some cases.
According to Automotive News, Ford has slashed its traditional two-week hiatus for factory workers in half at four of its plants, while both Chrysler and General Motors will keep factories running nonstop (two plants in Chrysler's case and a third of GM's factories).
This is, as we said, thanks to some positive numbers. Chief among those is the Seasonal Adjusted Annual Rate, which was at an eight-year high of 17 million units. Individual figures were less promising. GM, embroiled in its recall scandal, still saw a one-percent increase while Ford dropped six percent in year-over-year sales. Chrysler was the big winner, though, with a nine-percent jump in June.
