Original 1963 Rampside 1/2 Ton Pickup Truck on 2040-cars

This truck was purchased from a local resident and had sat exposed in a field for several years. I am a Corvair enthusiast and have enjoyed putting them back on the road. (My first was a 65 convertible in 1970.) This truck required several major items. The most serious was the clutch/fly wheel/differential. All three items were replaced and/or overhauled. Note: The old Corvair used a three part, riveted flywheel which eventually causes failure of the clutch release bearing "bull nose" which results in a big mess. The differential was rebuilt due primarily because the "bull nose" replacement requires it. The new unit has the dual oil seal for the drive shaft of the transmission. Over the five years of my ownership I have accumulated possibly 2K miles. During that time the truck has had the following service items either replaced or overhauled. Tires, brake system ( wheel cylinders and linings) NO master cylinder work. Upper and lower ball joints replaced. New steering drag link. Rebuilt carburetors (each need the plastic pull off). New fuel pump. Added electric boost pump. Rebuilt starter. New oversize battery. Replaced/rebuilt heads. Rebuilt/re-upholstered seat. New ignition parts (plugs/points wires). Gas tank removed and cleaned and a new level sender installed. The interior cab has no modifications and is in very good condition. The body was examined closely and any obvious bondo removed and metal welded back. The use of non skid paint "grey" within the bed and ramp was to provide a good surface to stand on and also it camouflages the dings and dents. The truck starts and runs fine and is driven occasionally. The differential gearing was changed to a higher ratio for better economy.  No attempt here or ever has been attempted to make this truck appear as anything but a unique WORKING truck. Those seeking a show vehicle should pursue other vehicles. BTW: The mileage shown is what is displayed on the truck. Actual mileage is unknown.

Toyota tops Kelley Blue Book's Resale Value Awards

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Kelley Blue Book announced its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, and we weren't too surprised to see the list dominated by Japanese automakers - mainly Toyota and Honda. KBB hands out the awards based on the projected residual value of mostly all 2013 model year vehicles, and Toyota skated home with a number of awards including 10 of the 22 overall categories and having five of its products in the top 10 for models with best resale value. KBB's Best Resale Value Awards were announced in the same week as the ALG Residual Value Awards, and there were many similarities between both lists, especially when it came to Toyota.
To come up with its winners, KBB measures depreciation over the first five years of ownership, and looks for the cars it expects to hold its value the best after this time; on average, the report says the 2013 model year vehicles will lose 61.8 percent of its value in five years. Of the 22 categories, 15 slots were filled by Toyota, Honda and Nissan products, while the Camaro and Porsche (Cayenne and Panamera) each took home a pair of awards. If Toyota has anything to be upset about in this list of cars, it's that categories for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car and Electric Vehicle went to the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Volt, respectively.
The overall top 10 models for the best resale value in 2013 are, in alphabetical order:

Corvette Stingray designer lists five goals of new exterior shape

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

Redesigning an icon is a difficult task, especially when you've got a blank sheet of paper in front of you and the all-new C7 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is intended to be your final objective.
General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

Ford, Toyota clean up in Best Car For The Money Awards

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

The U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards picks winners by looking at the average transaction price, five-year total cost of ownership, the regard a car has from the automotive press, reliability figures from J.D. Power and Associates and safety data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The result, according to the magazine, is "the best combination of critical acclaim and long-term value."
Ford nabbed six of the 21 categories that received awards this year, the Focus, Fusion, Fusion Hybrid, Taurus, Escape and Edge getting trophies. Toyota and its Lexus and Scion sub-brands took another five, the Tacoma and Tundra owning the two categories given to pickup trucks. The other ten awards were split between Honda with three, Buick with two, and one each for Subaru, BMW, Hyundai, Chevrolet and Mazda.
