I bought this 1970 Chevy Custom C-10 Longbed Pickup Truck with the intent of restoring it back to it's former glory.

I got about 80% of the way there on the mechanical side to making it a daily driver.  I took it on a 40 mile highway drive without any issues.  Mechanically, this thing was completely re-wired by hand, by a mechanic who specializes in rebuilding these trucks.  All repairs, restorations and other mechanical work was done by certified mechanics.  I did not attempt anything myself, for fear of destroying it.

I shipped it up from Texas earlier this year and it has been garaged ever since.  It is a looker in it's current state and I was told by many who worked on this truck that if I got this thing looking like it should, it would win many a competition.  I am only selling this now because I left my job to start something new and as a result, I have to get rid of all my passion projects and start trimming down since I can no longer afford to do the restoration.

Every part I ordered was either period appropriate (i.e. I replaced parts with the very same ones present in the 1970 model) with the exception of the transmission, which I did upgrade and the gear shifter, which I think is pretty sweet.  Headlights and wipers both work.  Needs a gas pedal, but the truck drives fine without it.  Where I could, I have saved the original parts and put them in the bed - along with all the books and paperwork I had on it.  That will all come to you - except for the hose.  The hose stays.  Don't ask for the hose.

As for where the car is presently, it got through that 40 mile drive like a champ, but since then, I have been unable to start it.  The truck may be out of gas and the battery is definitely needs to be jumped (it's a new one, as told to me by the guys who worked on it).

I haven't touched this in a few months, and because I need the garage space for the winter, and more importantly, the loot, I turn over the rest of the rebuild to you.

In June, my girlfriend had a top of the line Alpine stereo installed in the truck for me, which works wonderfully and sounds amazing.  Nothing was repurposed to make it fit in the original speaker settings.

As for aesthetics, I think the photos do tell that story quite well.  It has some sun damage and can use a total paint job.  There is some rust appearing on the body, but nothing has spread as long as I've had it, so it all appears to be localized and controlled.  There are a few dents and dings in the body.  However, based on the amount of people I have talked to about restoring the truck to it's former glory, folks were lining up to take a shot at this.  It's that sweet!

I have way more than 24 photos of this truck too, so if you need more, let me know what you want and I'll try to get it for you.

I'm happy to answer any questions and provide any additional information you may need if what I have listed here is not sufficient.  I am not a mechanic, nor do I have any experience rebuilding trucks, so in the case of particulars, I will try to get as much information from my mechanic as I can to provide you with the most accurate and helpful information.

If I'm able to get my BIN price, I will ship this anywhere in the 48 states for free (up to $1000) - so please, don't try and get crazy with the shipping options.

Thanks for looking!

Watch how Corvette Racing's new collision-avoidance radar system works

    Fri, 22 Mar 2013

When it comes to technology used in racecars, we generally expect it to trickle down to production cars, not the other way around. Well, Pratt & Miller has developed a new rear-facing radar that operates in a similar fashion to what we're used to in modern blind spot detection systems, only it is also capable of tracking cars as they approach and relaying vital information to the driver via a large display screen.
The innovative radar system debuted at last weekend's 12 Hours of Sebring for Corvette Racing, and this system makes perfect sense for endurance races like this since the cars sometimes have to drive through the night and in poor weather conditions.
The radar can detect cars even with poor visibility, and uses easy-to-distinguish symbols for the driver to identify.

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

    Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.

Pics Aplenty: Meet the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra [w/poll]

    Thu, 13 Dec 2012

Today was a pretty big day for General Motors, debuting the all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra light-duty pickup trucks ahead of their official showcase at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. And now that the dust has settled at GM's big reveal event, we've had a chance to snap dozens of photos of the new pickup pair from every angle.
We already told you the important bits earlier today (click here in case you missed it), but let's recap. Under the hood are three new engines - a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8 (you know, a version of the small-block that'll also be found under the hood of the C7 Corvette), all mated to six-speed automatic transmissions. The 2014 model year marks the return of the Z71 off-road package with Rancho shocks, front tow hooks and beefier underbody protection. Inside, there's a host of new technology and a greater focus on better quality and refinement.
Some of the nitty-gritty specifics (like engine output numbers and fuel economy) have yet to be revealed, and since we haven't driven the finished products yet, it's hard to say how these trucks will fare against rivals like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150. For now, we can only judge these two books by their covers, and while we do like the designs of the new trucks, we Autoblog staffers are torn on exactly which one looks best.
