1971 Mercury Cougar XR7. 1 Owner! 351 Cleveland. A/C. NICE! See VIDEO

1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 Hardtop Coupe

In 1971, a young lady in Oregon decided it was time to buy her first car. She and her father headed over to Olinger Ford on Canyon Drive in Portland. Having decided she wanted a new Goldenrod color Cougar XR7 with cloth seats, the Olinger staff found one from a dealer in Spokane, Washignton and it was delivered. Upon delivery, the salesperson invited the young lady to go for a demonstration drive. She asked, "Is the car mine, now?" The salesperson said, "Yes." So she asked the salesperson to put out his cigarette. To this day, the car has never been smoked-in.

After being driven for several years, the young lady was married and it was decided that a more "family friendly" car would be used as the daily driver. The Cougar was stored in the garage for the next 30 years. In 2003, the car was brought out of storage and recommissioned with a new gas tank, fuel pump, brakes, carburetor rebuild, battery, new tires, tune-up and heater core. Today it runs and drives beautifully.

Today, the car shows just 62,487 actual miles.

The car is completely stock with 351 Cleveland V8 engine, automatic transmission and all components as it left the factory. Original paint in very good condition (Note that the car was not detailed when the photos were taken.) There is some separation of the vinyl top near the back trim strip. A few cracks on the passenger arm rest (2 new door panels are included.) A few scuffs on the passenger door from being in storage. Air conditioning is complete and working, however the belt was disconnected. The car has NO RUST. NO ACCIDENTS. Many spare parts included: New padded dashboard, New interior door panels. A/C charging kit, 6 new sealed beam headlamps, Owner's manual and shop manuals, plus a box of small parts (see photo inside trunk.)

This is a complete, low-mileage one-owner XR 7 that is ready to be enjoyed now, or taken to show level.

A reasonable reserve has been placed on this car. (FYI, the NADA price guide values this car, as equipped with 351 engine and air conditioning - at these levels: High Retail: $26,250. Average: $14,500. Low: $7,875. See: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1971/Mercury/Cougar/XR7-2-Door-Hardtop/Values)

The reserve is WELL BELOW low retail price, taking into consideration condition, mileage and vehicle history.

WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS, WORLDWIDE.
