1993 Nissan D21 SE V6 Hardbody 4x4 Pickup

Looking for Good Home

You are bidding on a near-classic 1993 Nissan D21 special edition V6 hard-body 4x4 pickup truck. These trucks are legendary and have their own cult following in the United States and in Mexico. Known for being some of the sexiest light work trucks ever made, the D21 is very popular with the working crowd and collectors. The light weight and 4-wheel drive makes them superior when going off road, these don’t get stuck easily. During this era of truck building, reliability and economy were considered more important that horsepower. These trucks are best known for being extremely durable and reliable. All these trucks need is gas and oil and they practically drive forever. Get it now, in five years it will officially become a “classic”.

While many D21s have been painted over and modded beyond recognition, this one has been kept in near original condition. Nothing beats the original look!!!

This particular model is very similar to the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, and shares many of the same parts. Some consider it a Pathfinder but with a bed. It has all of the off-road capability of a light SUV but the utility of a pickup truck!

History

I have owned the truck since about 2005. Before that my father-in-law owned it since 1993, and this was his baby. I gave it to my son for a brief period of time, but he decided he wanted a SUV and so I bought it back. My original goal was to restore it to near mint and original condition, and maybe add just a little lift, but I just never got around to it. I will be sad to see this truck go, and I hope the new owner takes care of it. The engine is still in very good shape, perhaps minus some horsepower due to its high mileage. Most of the mileage is from freeway miles. Its first owner was a technician during the dot-come era and I currently work in the I.T. field, needless to say this truck has never had to work very hard. I would think the new owner could get it to 300,000 miles if treated right, but not everyone treats their trucks the same. It has most of the original paint, I had to repaint the hood when I got it, and parts of the bed, however it is still the original color (dark forest green) and it has the original factory pin stripes!!! When I bought it at about 191k miles I replaced the timing belt and valve cover seals at Dons Nissan in Campbell CA, so these are still good. The water pump, belt, and hose were also replaced at this time. At about 213k miles I received a full tune-up and they replaced the spark plug wires and typical maintenance for that mileage. The last couple mechanics that have checked said no tune up is needed yet. It has received an oil change promptly every 3000 miles for its entire life. It has passed every smog check no problem. Just recently had to replace the starter. Breaks have been done very recently, and rotors resurfaced. The battery is about 2.5 years old. The tires are still fairly new, and have lots of tread. Just got a complete multipoint inspection for this sale (attached), wheel alignment, and oil change.

Personality

-          It is not a V8, so driving up inclines is going to bog the engine down. Just get in the right lane otherwise you are going to waste a lot of gas trying to keep up with the Honda civics!

-          The turbo switch has always been trivial to me. It is supposed to give the engine more power, it just seems to burn more gas and make the engine hotter. Maybe I didn’t use it for the right reasons.

-          This truck hates driving up high elevations, and may get hot, but it has never over heated on me.

-          The truck makes a whining sound once in a while, regardless if it is on or off. I think it is a pump or something doing its thing, but it has always done this, and impacts nothing.

-          The turning radius is not great, making u-turns on narrow streets is not going to happen, so be prepared to make a 3-point turn.

-          This truck is VERY bouncy when hitting bumps and such, a bit fun actually, but the ladies like it J

What’s wrong with it, bumper to bumper, minor or otherwise

-          Small dent in front right bumper

-          Has torn CV boots. These only need to be replaced if planning to use the 4-wheel drive, which will engage the front drive axle. The 4-wheel drive works fine, but should not be used while boots are torn if it can be avoided. It’s about a $225 fix last I checked.

-          The automatic transmission occasionally starts in high gear from a stopped position after driving it. This is very random and problem cannot be reproduced intentionally. Happens to me about 2 times a month, if using it every day. A restart always resolves it. The original owner got it looked at, but mechanics could not pinpoint the problem. I never bothered to get it fixed, because it only happens once in a while. I think it is something computer/electronic related, but not sure.

-          It has a small oil leak in the rear main seal, which it has had since I have owned it. It has never been bad enough for me to replace. It drips in front of truck, about 1-4 drops after each drive. However, the oil is always full and fairly clean at each oil changes. There will be some visible oil accumulation at bottom of engine. Sorry, I am not big on cleaning engine parts.

-          Windshield wiper fluid pump is bad, so no water squirts out. Was like this when I bought it used.

-          The A/C works great, but to use high setting the truck must be warmed up or high RPM, green light indicates on

-          Large crack on driver side dash. Was treated to slow/stop it. The repair is not super pretty, but better than the large crack what was there. New owner can try to color match it better with some vinyl/fabric paint.

-          Small leak from sunroof when raining, it either needs to be tightened or seal replaced

-          Hood paint has a couple dime sized dull spots from tree sap

-          Paint scuffs and scratches on the Nissan panel attached to tailgate. This pops off and is replaceable.

-          Small cracks inside cab, one by center console, one near right side seat belt

-          The back window lock is broken, and right side rear window has a paint chip, courtesy of a break in

-          Various minor scuffs, cracks, or scratches all over

-          Wind shield has plenty of grain sized chips, and two fairly large ones which were treated so that they do not get bigger

-          There is a bumper sticker in back, and an Autobot sticker on back window, I will let buyer take these off

Inspection

I got a multipoint inspection from Sears for selling purposes (attached). The buyer may also visually inspect vehicle when picking up, however eyes only, no tools! This is to prevent something going wrong and buyer being libel for it. Please do not ask me to meet and look at truck before final bidding. The whole point of ebay, the documentation, the pictures, and videos is to give the buyer all the information they need. The buyer can always request more information from me and I will provide it. Worst case scenario if the buyer does not like what they see when picking up the vehicle, we cancel the transaction and notify Escrow.com, and the buyer gets their money back minus transaction fees.

Feel Warm and Fuzzy

I want potential bidders to be comfortable with this purchase. I can provide close-up images of these cosmetic wear if requested, or anything specific in engine or under car. I can also send the full “car fax” report in pdf format if requested. If anything is needed, please message me, and include email.

Important

The vehicle is being sold “as is” in accordance with California state law, with no warranty or guarantees. Please be familiar with what “as is” means for buyers and sellers. Also, seller is not responsible for any damages, accidents, mishaps, breakdowns, or vehicle failures that happen once ownership is transferred, or any expenses or damages relates to such events.

Before you buy

This is a high mileage truck! It does not have a powerful V8 engine. You are not going to win any races with this truck. It is not going to perform like a brand new vehicle. It runs about as well as a V6 engine with approximately 246,000 miles would normally. It is probably not ideal for someone needing to do a lot of heavy commuting. The truck is 20 years old with over 246,000 miles, so anything can go wrong after purchase. This is a risk the buyer must accept. Please, only bid on this truck if it is worth it to you and you are familiar with this particular year/make/model.
