This 1980 pickup has low mileage, less than 48K- no kidding, I have the inspection records. Good fuel economy: 35mpg.  It runs fine. Unlike the sluggish diesel rabbits, its peppy 79 horse power  fuel injected engine and 4 speed manual transmission make it fun to drive. New muffler; new radiator and pressure tank; new master cylinder and rear brake cylinders, new gear shift pivot. Ball joints, CV axles, tie rod ends, seals, clutch and transmission are all in good shape.

My father was older when he bought it new in 1980 and didn't drive much. We've mostly used it for odd jobs around the farm. I last had it inspected in 2011. It has been in the family since it was new.

It needs some work for full restoration: amateur paint job; AC needs charging; heater fan needs oiling; radio not working. It has fewer rust issues than most older Rabbits, but it still needs body work: the strut towers should be reinforced and undercoated. The uniframe where the front end braces attach has corroded and should be reinforced- These don't interfere with driving but it may not pass inspection (see pictures). It could use new struts, and shocks. The emergency brake isn't holding- a cable needs replacing. Tire tread is good but the rear tires are beginning to show a little cracking on the sides. While the seat upholstery is in great shape, the dash board has sun cracks and the ceiling fabric needs regluing. The truck bed has some minor dings and the rear bumper side trim needs replacing. It has never been in any accidents.
