1970 Jaguar XKE Series II Roadster with a beautiful Triple Black color that is rust free, dent free and gorgeous curved body with really wonderful lines, looks stunning with Black luster with recent paint, from careful examination, it appears that this is a very unmolested XKE that is presented ‘as factory’ with Winter 2013 full check, it works very well that couples the presentation with the chrome  knock-off wire wheels and radial redline tires, under the bonnet is the the excellent running original 4.2 Litre six cylinder dual overhead cam engine with a smooth 240 horsepower and 265 lbs of torque, matching numbers, this Jaguar engine is just set by a top British  specialist, the 4 speed transmission with the correct shifter works as it should, easy to shift, with only a weight of 2910 lbs, this was a fast car, the very advanced handling with the inboard brakes and independent rear end are modern even by today’s standards, the black leather interior is believed original and in really fine condition, has the original and beautiful Jaguar wood steering wheel, work includes the lighting system just gone through, now this just had the brakes checked in order to enjoy safely,  technical expertise and time just spent to insure this 1970 Jaguar XKE works well and presents as a top driven show car, these roadsters are hard to find like this as the car is detailed to top driven show condition,  this famous car that has a following and demand all over the world, see www.fraserdante.com for further information with photos and links,

History:  the Series II cars are open headlights without glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged “mouth” and twin electric fans, and uprated brakes, the engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial “ribbed” appearance, the USA version has twin Stromberg carberators and larger valve clearances to produce a very torquey and usable engine,

This particular 1970 XKE is a ‘matching number’ car with the VIN # being on the data tag as well as the important front ‘picture frame’ frame of the right side of the car to confirm, the car is very correct with the remaining heat riser that crosses valve covers still from the exhaust to the carberators,  believed to be low mileage of 55,996 from past title and condition,  demand for these Series II cars have grown since the upgraded seats that recline and are larger, this makes this model way better to enjoy the better seating,

While the Series II E-type was altered with styling upgrades more  than its interim predecessor, the essential construction and suspension remained the same and the body work had some small details, modifications were made to the front of the bonnet increasing the size considerably for cooling,  the headlamp scoops were altered so that the inner walls now splayed inwards and the side/flasher were rather larger and positioned below the raised bumper, the vehicle also received heavier front bumper blades, motif bar, front and rear overrides were changed, new square number plate at the rear, a different grille was used in the rear of the bonnet bulge and the washer jets were finished in satin chrome to avoid the risk of dangerous reflections,

Suspension, wheels and brakes:  this has the beautiful chrome wires with the Jaguar knockoffs,  the tires are Michelin Xs radial single bank redlines in the 185/15 size,  has the knock off hammer,  here is a very advanced build, independent suspension with torsion bars, these famous cars have front disc brakes and the rear inboard discs that are state of the art, they have just been checked to make sure they work well, (LINK), four coil springs,

Engine:  the Jaguar  factory information states that “few engine types have demonstrated such ubiquity and longevity, Jaguar used the Twin OHC XK Engine, as it came to be known, in the Jaguar XJ6 saloon from 1969 through 1992, the build was so well designed that properly maintained, this standard production XK Engine would achieve 200,000 miles of useful life”, this very reliable engine in this car is the ‘matching numbers’ to the data plate on the car,  has the correct dual Stromberg carberators with proper air cleaners, these have just been set by a British car expert,  the oil is just changed, new filter, fresh spark plugs and good wiring used in the tune work and road test, the factory heat riser for the choke goes from the exhaust manifold across the valve covers to the carbs, hard to find this still on these Series IIs, the compression has just been checked with a dry cold reading and is strong at 140 to 155 lbs (LINK),  we believe that this is a low mile Jaguar and there is no sign the engine has been out of the car, the engine is a very smooth in line 6 cylinder with an iron block fitted with an aluminum head and two overhead camshafts, two valves per cylinder, sized at 4235cc or 258cid, US version rated at 240 horsepower @ 5500 RPM with at strong 263 Ft-Lbs of torque @ 5500 RPM, the bore is 3.6” with long stroke of 4.2”,  these engines are easy to use and maintain in the ‘real world’,  when this was just driven in the testing,  it ran well in Saturday traffic, just driven to a local show with the smooth and even torque,

Body and lighting: when found at a show, this car looked good but needed the upgrading by Fraser  Dante in order to bring to a higher degree both cosmetically and with the goal to use for a British Car Day Show, some minor blemishes were discovered on the lower part of the body and very hard to see, then the trim was stripped  from the front of the car, a top classic car painter then did a top job in painting and blending,  then the work was wet sanded to insure the fine presentation,  then  the whole car is professionally buffed by a top finisher to really present the luster (LINK),

to insure the wiring and lighting work well, the British expert then rewired the front headlights and turn signals so this can be used at night should the situation require, photos document his work (LINK), the brake lights were checked and set in this operation,  at this writing all of the gauges work in the car excepting the electronic tachometer that is intermediate, this unit has just come back from our local speedometer and tach expert and now going to a top Jaguar gauge specialist that has been recommend, all signs that this is the original unit that will work perfectly, this type of work is performed by Fraser Dante for someone who really wants a car that has been really checked,

Underchassis and suspension: this is a most solid car underneath, it is painted black so photos do not capture how nice it is, very unmolested and confirms the original and believed low mileage feelings on the car, the bushings are fine, replaced during its life, the brakes are checked and the pads virtually new,  when one views the front suspension ‘A’ arms, this whole area is so good that appears almost a time warp, slight wear and no damage the photos of the engine area of the car show the stock and factory condition, (LINK),  when one finds a factory correct, well maintained car, they often drive better that even a restored car, here is the believed case,  even the trunk has a new black carpeting just installed, fully detailed trunk with solid well, the fifth chrome wire wheel and a jack (LINK),

Summary: a classic Jaguar with really gorgeous lines, the Black color really sets this off, these drivable investment six cylinder Jaguar roadsters have a worldwide appeal,  the final getting up with cosmetics for shows and top mechanicals finished, taken to a local British Car Day in May and thusly tested and set for Winter 2013
