Where to start? Purchased a few months ago for an around town hauler, sight unseen on CRAIGSLIST. When I got to the farm all I knew is it ran and had a dump bed that did not work and that had not left the property for at least 15 years. This was just a farm hauler that was convenient when the dump bed worked but left in a barn once it was not working. I was told 15 years the since it left the farm the last time. I think he was the 2nd owner and had it for several years before titling it but never drove it off site. It started and drove it home slowly as it wandered quite a bit and ran rough. This is a list of what I have done since bringing it home:
New plugs, wires, rotor, cap
New Carter 2BB Carburetor
Oil change, filters, valve cover vent and hoses
New choke cable
Front Wheel Alignment
Set camber, caster and toe
New King Pins and Bushings (these are hard to find and not every mechanic has the ability to work on them but I found a great mechanic)
New Tie-rod ends and drag link
New front and rear brake shoes, wheel cylinders
New Master Cylinder
New Break Rotors
New Front and Rear Break Pads
New Front and Rear Wheel Cylinders
New Front and Rear Brake Hardware Kits
Front Wheel Bearing Seals
Rear Wheel Bearing Seals
New Valve System
Right and Left Outer Tie Rod Ends
King Pin Set with Bushings
Drag Link Bar
Front and Rear Shocks
New Alternator
New Bed Lift Motor
New Bed Lift Solenoid
New Bed Lift ground Cable/Engage Mechanism
New Bed Lift Wiring
Refill Hydraulic Fluid
New Hydraulic Hose
New Battery
New tires ($680)
Total cost with labor and parts $4500,00 and receipts in hand. All this work was done by two local shops with excellent reputations and the results are fantastic. Took the truck on the highway and it drives and tracks like NEW! Amazing to cruise an old truck at highway speeds without any concern about lane wandering. This tracks and rides like it did from the factory. Basically a new suspension, steering mechanics and lift bed mechanics making this a daily driver that can haul, dump and look like one tough SOB. Engine is a 318, runs strong, no smoke and have not noticed any leakage under the truck. It is an old truck with the nuances you would expect. All lights work, heater blows hot. Original radio not working. Non stock mirrors. Split in seat fabric. Needs a good cleaning on the inside. No cracks in windshield. Vent windows good, door rubber could be replaced. No power steering. This is a good running, strong truck. Now onto the lift bed.... It needed some parts replaced and someone that knew what they were doing. The result is a FULLY FUNCTIONAL LIFT BED! The truck appears stock but as you can see in the photos, she is a true workhorse with a great feature.
The body is in need of some replacement chrome, fenders and bed gate. See photos. This truck is a candidate for taking the last few steps to completion. If keeping I would replace bed gate, fenders, chrome and do the bodywork and paint for a complete functional truck. Interior and carpet need some attention. 4 speed with granny gear. This is a no emission vehicle in Colorado and still has some time on the 5 year plates. Starts fantastic and today it is cold and snowing here, pushed in choke and she started right up! Two wheel drive.
Mechanically this is a fantastic truck. Body needs some help if you want. Money already spent and I am in this truck for about $6K with purchase price, time, parts and labor.
A lift conversion runs about $3500 installed for a good one. This is a 1 ton lift and works perfectly. Buy it now includes delivery up to 250 miles from Loveland, Colorado. Shipping beyond that is up to buyer. If you pick it up I will refund $250 of the buy it now price. Auction is three days and reserve is below what I have in the truck. It is for sale locally so auction could end at any time. I believe the mileage is correct but have no way to prove it.
