Fantastic Rust Free Body And Undercarriage, Great Runner
This beautiful 1969 Firebird has been a CA car since day one. The second owner purchased the car from his brother in 1978. It sat in his garage for 25 years until I found it and began the restoration. I purchased the car because it had a very solid body and undercarriage. Original panels, floor pan, and trunk pan, all in perfect, rust free shape. This is a zero rust car. I am more than happy to put it up on a lift for you if you want to see the undercarriage, and for those of you that can’t make it out here, I have attached undercarriage photos, where you can see the super solid floors.
The engine was replaced by the original owner just before he transferred ownership to his brother, back in the 70’s. A rebuild 350 C.I. was installed. The transmission is a turbo 350, and it was rebuilt at that time as well. Both of them have very little miles. This car shifts very well through each of the three gears. It is very smooth and without any hesitation. It has plenty of power and really climbs the hill to my house easily. The Ignition was changed over to electronic and starts very easily. I have the original ignition as well, and you will need that to make the hood tach operable (it runs off the points). The rear end is a 10-bolt, non-posi unit, with what appears to be an original gear set-up. Fuel is fed to the intake manifold through a new, but original style 2-barrel carburetor. The car drives fantastic, watch the video (below) to hear and see it. Original Manifolds, with a redone exhaust really help the car sound like a classic muscle car, not too loud, but very appealing. I love the sound of the car, so I never minded the missing radio. When you give her some throttle, she really purrs.
(except the tach, which just needs standard ignition) All the turn signals, brake lights, high-beams, low-beams, reverse lights, windshield wipers, heater fan, all the gauges, it all works. The only thing not working is the horn, and I just never use it. People see this car coming a mile away. I also have the build sheet for the car along with the Protect-o plate, original owners-manual, warranty pamphlet, and the title from the second owner, dated 1978.
HANDLES LIKE A DREAM
She handles well due to many different features: The original 14” wheels provide for many different options when choosing your rubber and currently they are fitted with BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s in the front and rear. The Power brakes, with new pads, provide excellent stopping power to bring the car back down from highway speeds. The power steering in the car feels great at both high way speeds and while parking. The car also has working air shocks.
PAINT THAT HAS CLEAR FOR MILES AND INTERIOR THAT IS NEW
The beautiful Lemans blue paint really pops in the sun, the car still looks like it’s wet, the way the clear shines. This is because the car had a high-quality 2-stage paint job with a color sand and buff to finish it off. There is no orange peel on this car; you can use the panels for mirrors. Before the car was painted, all the original paint was stripped away and we looked at the body. All the panels were in excellent condition, so none needed replacement; it still has the panels it left the factory with. This goes for the floor-boards as well, they are original and in great shape, no rust! Next we restored the interior. The car received a new dash pad, new convertible top, new carpet, new seat covers. The seats are very comfortable and firm.
