This is my Defender 110 offered for sale.  It was legally imported by me using a properly licensed importation agent in 2012 from England where it was purchased from a private owner who had owned the vehicle since 2006.

I am a car enthusiast and know that anyone considering a Defender should be the same.  As such I’m including as much information as possible in this listing.  I have also attached photos showing the vehicle thoroughly including areas needing attention.

·      Vehicle is an early 1987 (UK D-reg) Land Rover 110 five-door.  It is right-hand drive, having been manufactured for the British market.

·      The VIN is SALLDHAV7BA293261.

·      As eBay does not recognize this VIN I had to list the model year as pre-1981.

·      The LR is legally titled and registered in Massachusetts as a 1987 Land Rover Defender.  It has a clean, lien-free title in my name.

·      I have all of the importation documentation that is also in my name.

·      The mileage on the odometer represents the total miles on the vehicle since 1987 – it is not reflective of the upgraded drivetrain (see below).

·      Major points of note for the vehicle are as follows:

o   Drivetrain:

§  The engine is a Land Rover 200tdi 2.5L four-cylinder turbo-diesel.

§  The transmission is an LT77 5-speed gearbox.

§  A Kenlowe after-market fan has been fitted to aid with cooling.  The fan is triggered via the thermostat and may also be manually activated using a switch in the cabin.

§  The engine does drip oil slightly as is the case with many of the 200 tdi and other LR engines of this period.  I manage this by keeping the car parked over a pan in my garage – the specialists at Cityside advised that managing the oil level is a completely acceptable tactic.  The oil “consumption” is well under a quart every 1500 miles.

§  The exhaust tailpipe is rusty and will need replacement soon – I have shown this in the photos also.  There is no exhaust leak or rattle – it drives and performs normally.

o   Chassis:

§  The frame is in very good structural shape.  It was steam-cleaned and Wax-oyled prior to shipment to the US.

o   Body:

§  The four passenger side doors all open/close and lock/unlock properly.

§  I have included photos of the underside of each door – the rear passenger doors have rusty bottom portions: the part directly facing the ground.  The doors are structurally sound however.  All four passenger doors have door cards in good shape.

§  The rear hatch door has a wooden panel in place of the door card, as shown.  The bottom portion of this door is also rusted in the hidden portion.  It does open and close and lock/unlock without issue.

§  The tubular side steps/rock sliders were custom built using 2” stainless steel pipe and then painted so they will not rust even if gouged.  They are not damaged in any way however.

o   Brakes:

§  New brakes with discs all around (originally had drums at rear) were installed along with new brake lines etc.

o   Interior:

§  The front footwells do have surface corrosion, as shown in the photos.  These are structurally sound however and are not rusted through.

§  The remaining floor areas (front flats, rear, and rear bay) are in good shape.

§  All seats have been re-upholstered with Exmoor Trim.  The seats are the “high-back” style units which are very comfortable.

§  As you can see, there are two internal storage compartments (cubby boxes).  Once is between the front seats and the other between the two rear seats.

§  There is one bench seat in the rearmost part of the cabin with two seat-belts installed.

§  Land Rover brand rubber mats are installed throughout the cabin including the rear area.

§  The rearmost sliding windows do not presently open.  They are sealed shut but if needed the sliding function could be re-enabled by removing the sealant – I received the vehicle in this condition.  I have not missed this feature and have not attempted to explore further.  The windows do not leak.

§  The other four windows go up and down as normal and also do not leak.

o   Wheels & tires:

§  New Wolf style 16” steel rims installed in summer 2012 with new Hankook DynaPro 265/75-16L tires.

·      Since the Defender has been in my possession it has been professionally maintained by Land Rover specialists “Cityside Garage” in Holliston, MA.  I have the written service records.

·      Other points to note for the 110:

o   New starter.

o   New Interstate battery and battery cut-off toggle switch to disconnect battery power when vehicle is not being driven for a number of days.

o   New power steering pump and related hoses.

o   All fuel injector lines replaced.

o   New clutch master and slave cylinders.

o   All fluids replaced: engine oil, coolant, transmission fluid, transfer case oil, power steering fluid (obviously as pump was replaced),clutch fluid (also obviously), brake fluid.

o   All wheel hub seals were checked and lubricated with molybdenum grease.

o   The headlights and headlight housings were replaced with Hella Vision Plus lights to provide better illumination.

o   The vehicle does not have AC, as expected.  The heat works both in terms of temperature control and directions (upper and lower vents).

o   As mentioned, the LR has power steering.  There is also a steering damper installed which improves feel and guards against potential wheel lashing.

·      Accessories fitted/available with car:

o   Hella 500FF front spot-lamps on bull-bar activated via high-beam.

o   Rear work lamp activated via switch in the cabin.

o   New six-speaker stereo with JVC KD-R650 head unit with iPod/iPhone control and AUX port.

o   Front skidplate installed to protect the front underbody components from off-road hazards.

·      This is a very solid 110 that I am selling because I simply do not anticipate driving it sufficiently due to my upcoming planned move in the city of Boston, along with the premium in parking availability.

·      The vehicle drives very well – exactly as one would expect a Defender 110 with this drivetrain.  It is not a speed demon, of course, but can readily maintain 75 mph on the highway.

·      The regular hi-range permanent 4WD works well as does the lo-range 4WD.  The differential lock (center diff) works in both ranges also.

·      The right-hand-drive is surprisingly easy to get used to, as long as one has company at drive-through windows and uses a toll pass for tolls!

·      This can easily be driven every day as is or the paint and cosmetic areas can be restored to have a truly eye-catching “new” looking Defender.

The Defender is available for viewing or a test drive in Quincy, Massachusetts.  Please feel free to ask any questions – the reserve is quite low given the condition and rarity of the vehicle.  Thank you for reading.
