1987 Oldsmobile 442
Outstanding Restoration!
Loaded - Show Winner

You are viewing a privately owned 1987 Oldsmobile 442!
Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this outstanding vehicle.
You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the private owner.
This completely loaded Burgundy 1987 442 with factory T-tops is in near perfect condition. The current owner has meticulously restored this vehicle to a "Better Then New" standard. He has also installed a list of extra visual and performance items that should have been offered from Oldsmobile back on the mid 80's 442. This '87 442 is for someone that wants to have a near perfect car that enjoys taking it to shows/events and walking away with awards or just taking it for a cruise with the T-tops off. This is just not another late model 442 currently for sale, this one could be the cleanest and best overall 1987 442 offered at this time with no disappointments! This isn't your ordinary 1987 442. Yes, it looks all stock until you open the hood, there you'll find what Oldsmobile should have offered on their mid 80's 442 model, a High Output Olds Rocket "403" motor which has been professionally rebuilt with Oldsmobile's 1969 High Compression number "5" cylinder heads that were rebuilt, polished and modified to work with this Oldsmobile 403 power plant along with other performance modifications. Lets face it, these late model 442's are great looking cars and performed well for what American manufacturer's offered back in the 1980's but this one changes that fact. Why not have the performance and sound of the 1960's 442 along with the great looks and luxury features of the 1980's 442? Oldsmobile produced 4,208 442s in 1987, 1,111 were built with T-Tops and if they would have built one with a High Output "403"..........This 442......... "WOULD BE IT"

Body & Paint:

The vehicle is finished in its original color scheme. Burgundy Metallic (Code #79) with Silver Metallic (Code #12) on the lower accent. The two colors are separated by the correct Gold metallic accent stripe(s). The vehicle was completely disassembled and painted with base coat/clear coat urethane paint. The paint is in  excellent condition with no scratches, orange peel, checking, or fading. (Better then the original paint job.) The car still retains all its original body panels. There is no rust or body filler on this Oldsmobile. The body is straight and all of the sheet metal panels align up with the proper gaps. A '83-'84 Hurst/Olds rear spoiler from Lauren Engineering was correctly installed to the rear deck lid.

Chrome & Trim:

The stainless steel trim pieces around all the windows are still original and is in very nice condition. There are a few of the typical very small imperfections on the scratches on these stainless steel moldings. The burgundy colored body side moldings are the NOS factory correct moldings that are impossible to find, these are like new. The rubber seals and weather stripping is all new which includes the windows, doors, T-Tops, and the trunk. The chrome taillight housings are new NOS and look great. The NOS hood ornament is not faded or discolored. Both headlight assemblies were also NOS along with the side marker lights and turn signal lens.

Interior:

The interior is all brand new done in its original "Dark Claret" Bronte velour. The seats, carpet, headliner, visors, package shelf, NOS upper door panels are all new and look great. The dash and center console have been professionally restored and is in excellent shape. The interior is near perfect. There isn't any fading, wearing, rips or marks anywhere on this interior. The aluminum "Fisher-Body" door sills were NOS and still look new without any scratches. The dash, console, and control knobs/switches all look new without showing any of the typical wear. The center console was upgraded with a Hurst "Lighting Rods" shifter. This style Hurst shifter was offered in the '83-'84 "Hurst Olds". It was install correctly and looks totally stock with a matching bezel faceplate. An updated factory Oldsmobile rear view mirror with two courtesy lights was also added for convenience. (T-Top vehicles do not have a overhead center dome light.) The instrument panel has all the original gauges including the 120MPH speedometer which was only a one year item. The factory sport leather wrapped steering wheel is in near perfect condition with very little wear if any. The factory Delco ETR AM/FM stereo with seek and scan auto-reverse cassette and graphic equalizer with clock display is still installed. The factory power antenna is working like it should. A Delco 10 disc CD changer is mounted in the trunk. A factory remote was added to right hand passenger sport side view mirror assembly.

Engine Compartment:

The engine compartment is fully detailed. Very clean and show ready with a Oldsmobile 403cu.in. stock intake manifold with a correct stock rebuilt carburetor.  Even though this vehicle has been upgraded with a Rocket 403 engine, the engine compartment still has the original stock appearance. It has NOS belts, hoses, tower clamps, water pump, EGR valve, oil switch, air tubes, alternator, overflow jug, and washer fluid reservoir. There is also a new radiator, AC condenser, heater core, and AC compressor, all factory correct! The car is equipped with it's original factory dual snorkel air cleaner with chrome lid, fitted with a K&N filter. Dual "Ram Air" hoses were installed giving the vehicle added ram air performance like the 1960's 442 had. (Ram Air intakes are located in the bumper openings between the license plate and parking lights.) This owner was so meticulous when detailing the motor he replaced the factory latter tie straps with factory new ones!!

Trunk Compartment:

The trunk compartment is in new condition. It looks like it did when it rolled out of the dealership. The spare tire, jack, jacking tools and tire cover are all in their proper places. The trunk also has the GM factory T-Top storage bags. (T-Tops are placed into these bags when they are removed from the vehicle.) Again, a Delco 10 disc CD changer which is mounted cleanly underneath the package tray. A factory power trunk release was also installed with the correct factory button in the glove box.

Chassis - Frame & Undercarriage:

Make sure you look at the undercarriage photos. Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the undercarriage. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why we took a lot of detailed pictures of this. This car has never seen salty bad weather, the undercarriage is very clean and detailed like a show car should. It's been meticulously cleaned and painted with the correct shades of black paint along with new brake lines, shocks, gas tank, fuel lines and a highly detailed exhaust system for that original factory stock look.

Glass:

All of the tinted glass is original accept for the windshield and rear side glass. All have the proper date coding. LOF logo on the windshield and PPG logo on the side glass. The power windows are working correctly. The rear window has the factory rear defogger.

Wheels & Tires:

The correct factory chrome 15" x 7" Olds Super Stock wheels are still installed. These wheels have the correct 442 gold accent area painted along with the correct gold pinstripping. They are in excellent condition. The wheels are fitting with the correct chrome center caps which have the "442" logo on them. Mounted on these factory chrome wheels are the correct Goodyear Eagle GT II P215/65R15 tires with white outlined letter sidewalls. The tires are close to new and show very little wear.

Restoration:

The "Body on Frame" restoration was done in 2001. There are only 4000 miles on the vehicle since this high end restoration was completed. The owner has all the receipts from the restoration. There is $3,500 in GM receipts alone. (Being the owner is a GM employee, that $3,500 was at shop cost and with no tax. Would have been something like $4,500.) This restoration was done correctly with no money speared.

Mechanical:

Engine:
The engine is a professionally rebuilt Oldsmobile 403 which has been bored .020 over. New bearings, pistons, high volume oil pump, Lunati Cam, lifter, valve springs, .472 intake, .496 exhaust, lift 280 intake 290 exhaust duration. Number #5 1969 350cu. in. cylinder heads with stainless steel valves, harden valves seats, and drilled/tapped for air tubes. Stock rebuilt carburetor with stock aluminum intake manifold from the 307cu. in. New GM water pump and GM belts. High energy coil, K&N air filter with ram air.
Transmission - Rear End:
Rebuilt 200-4R 4 speed automatic transmission with a mild shift kit. The trans shifts out great. It will "Chirp" the wheels with a little acceleration when it shifts out of gear. Connected to the transmission is a "Hurst Lighting Rod" shifter. These shifters are working flawless and were new when they were installed. The rear end has the factory 3.73:1 gears.
  Brakes:
All new front rotors, pads, calipers, and brake lines. The rear received new drums, shoes, wheels cylinders, brake hardware along with the brake lines. The brake system is working great. They do not pulsate, pull, fade or make any noise. The parking brake is also working correctly.
Suspension:
All new with Moog front end parts. Tie rods, ball joints, center link, idle arm, pitman arm, shocks, polyurethane sway bar bushings, stabilizer links, upper and lower control arm bushings. The rear has new Delco factory air shocks and new upper control arms. The vehicle sits nice and drives even better. No problems or noises with this suspension.
Exhaust:
True dual exhaust with factory GM mufflers and tailpipes. The tailpipes exit in the correct location behind the rear wheels. They have been hand polished keeping the exhaust tips looking better then new. The exhaust sounds great with this 403. A true muscle car sound.

Manuals - Paperwork:

The vehicle comes with a copy of the dealer invoice, dealer album, and two dealer sales brochures. The owner's manual along with the owner's manual holder with original Oldsmobile key chain is in the glove box. A copy of the clean CarFax with go with the vehicle along with all the receipts from the restoration.  This vehicle has won multiple show awards and trophies including regional Oldsmobile show(s). The owner is also including a high end custom fitted "California" car cover that is flannel lined.
