This car was purchased for a friend, in order that he might give to his daughter. She is starting college and would need a good commuting car.

I'm a retired mechanic and agreed to fix the car as if it were for my daughter.I looked  at everything that I could think of. First, I flushed all of the fluids, cooling system, transmission and brakes. During this process, I replaced the timing belt, but the idler bearings and water pump were very tight (good condition) and these were not replaced nor was the accessory belt. I replaced the front brake pads and turned the rotors. The rear brakes were fine. I have on order a front strut bushing; it doesn't affect the suspension, but allows the occasional clunk from the front.
The car had some tuning problems when purchased; these were repaired. She passed SMOG with great  (low) numbers.
When he told me that he no longer needed the car as his ex-wife purchased an almost new Ford Fiesta. You wouldn't have wanted to hear my friends views on this matter. I promptly registered and insured the car in my name. I didn't finish attending to the occasional ABS light.

As the mileage was so low for the year, it certainly is suspect. My investigations at the time of purchase led me to believe that it wasn't far off of the mark. The driver's seat is cracked, but not torn. The idler bearings nor the water pump  did not need replacement. I feel as though the car does not have more than 90,000, as the timing belt was OK! I will be interested to see the ebay car fax.

The tires have around 10,000 miles left.

The car is is economical; I getting close to 20 mpg in town.. She is also great fun to drive. Will cruise at 75 MPH and brakes straight. All of the body lines are correct: she shows no sign of having been in any serious accident. The title is NOT salvage!

Tina Fey sits down with Seinfeld for new CiCGC

Thu, 30 Jan 2014

Recently Jerry Seinfeld went out for a videotaped cup of coffee with Jay Leno in a vintage Gmund Porsche. Switching coasts and cars, this time New York's own son returns to his city for a jaunt in a 1967 Volvo 1800S with fellow New Yorker Tina Fey for the latest episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
The trip takes them uptown to Cuban coffee shop Floridita in Harlem, then back downtown to a pastry shop. On the way, Jerry calls out a photo shoot for using a fake Porsche, and Fey admits she doesn't have a driver's license. Driving cars, she says, "is like Twitter to me." Which she also doesn't do - she lasted seven tweets in 2009.
You can check out the episode below as they go in search of coffee, the rare guanabana/soursop juice, Jerry's even more elusive product placement and the last Cronut in NYC.

Volvo already planning road-going V8 Supercar?

Sat, 15 Mar 2014

After decades of cat-and-mouse battle waged between Holden and Ford, Australia's V8 Supercars series has expanded considerably. Mercedes and Nissan both joined the grid last season, and Volvo has followed suit this year. So when 2014 championship kicked off earlier this month in Adelaide, everyone was watching to see who would come out on top.
The answer is Holden, which took first place in all three of the weekend's races. In fact the General Motors division locked out the podium in the first and third races and took first and third places in the second race, letting just one other manufacturer onto the podium the entire weekend - and that was Volvo. The Polestar S60 scored second place on its first race weekend, beating all the Nissan Altimas, the Mercedes E63 AMGs, the Ford Falcons and most of the Holden Commodores.
Now that's hardly winning the championship, but it's a very solid debut. And that point was not lost on the people back at headquarters in Sweden, who are already thinking about making a roadgoing version of the race-spec V8 Supercar.
